yess tortoise ARE amazing. they are amazing live and amazing on cd. they have such a unique blend of instruments and sound that just all comes together and makes you happy. i think this is what is meant to make u feel

Anything that could spark emotion can "set someone off". It has less to do with the "what" and more with the "who". Sounds like you're really emotionally sensitive.
I certainly doubt that these guys and those shogazing knock off bands are in the same league. This guys just create new and beautiful music. This is way different from being suicidal. This music is pure joy to me :) I hope every Tortoise lover feels pretty much the same.
