I was sadly influenced by all the negative hype about the Prius. So much so that I purchased a 2010 Gen II Honda Insight. I am glad to say that I have since traded the Insight in and got a 2010 Prius II. I have to say that I LOVE my Prius. I am so glad that I got past the hype.

The acceration problem was caused by a faulty american made accelerator pedal. I witnessed a news broadcast that mentioned the prius has an american made accelerator pedal that sticks. This same pedal was installed in GM models which were also being recalled for the same problem. It was determined that moisture causes the contact points in the pedal to stick. A faulty american made pedal was the problem. I haven't lost any faith in the quality of craftsmanship that goes into Toyotas.
@Phelt54 it was never the pedal. Its the electronic throttle. Toyota just never admitted it was that because thats more expensive to fix and it effects both the japan made pedals and american ones. Its a software issue which is why the people who had their cars runaway also couldn't shift into neutral.

@pissjug04 There is no difference. 95 or 70, the mechanisms of the car still act the same. Shifting into neutral, either manually or by turning off the engine, is not affected by speed of the car. If you understand how the mechanics of a car works, it'll make more sense. Look it up, do some studies on how transmission works and you'll understand.

Thanks for the video. I did some of this testing with a 2006 Prius. I shifted into neutral with my foot on the accelerator and the car behaves perfectly. I don't know if there is a bug in the Prius software, but there are three ways to stop the car, 1) brakes, 2) neutral, 3) turn off. These points are often not covered well by the media.
The media doesn't want to share a solution they want to dramatize the situation so they can get more viewers. Some Prius owners want a quick buck so they go on a joy ride & act like it wasn't their fault. It probably really happened to 2 or 3 people & everyone else is taking advantage of the situation.

From watching this video, im glad I drive an "older car" (2000 Mazda Protege) About the Prius, is no key for the ignition? Is everything in that car related to drive train controlld by electronic signals? Gas peda, brake and transmission gear shifter? That gear shifter looks like crap. That woman traded her Camry for a Tundra. She didn't mention the cars trouble to the dealership when she traded it in. The person that owns that car now has is aware of the issue now but has never reported the problem to have occured.
A Toyota spokesman stated that light pressure on the brake pedal won't activate the brake override. So when the CHP officer approached this Prius and saw brake lights, was he seeing a Prius under heavy braking or light?

I saw the news tape of the old driver after the cops got him slowed down and he was visibly shaken (yes he could have been a real good actor)
the problem was the Prius had a malfunction that caused it to accelerate out of control, in a panic situation this old guy is not going to know that you have to hold the start button in for 3 seconds
Also the control that you use to go into neutral was supposed to be confusing
Maybe you can put up another shot of it up.

@pissjug04 There is no difference. 95 or 70, the mechanisms of the car still act the same. Shifting into neutral, either manually or by turning off the engine, is not affected by speed of the car. If you understand how the mechanics of a car works, it'll make more sense. Look it up, do some studies on how transmission works and you'll understand.

Nickel is precious so the batteries are recycled. There is more nickel in your big shiny rims than in a prius battery.
mine is 6 years old and working fine.
my care doesn't produce soot or nano patricles like your diesel does.

That's right your car only uses nickel which kills the ground that it's taken from. Your car also puts out more greenhouse gasses. Diesels are 40% cleaner than gas burning vehicles. Soot? Whoa, get with the times. Go check out the newer diesel trucks. They hardly shoot soot from their tail pipe due to strict diesel laws requiring all manufactures to use DPF filters.

Very nice! yours is working great. I hope you stay that cool and judgemental if you have a frequency problem with your wireless trottle cable, and your car hits its rev-limiter and jerks you back and forth and causes pulsations in brakes. You sound like you would be up for the challenge tough guy.I currently own a toyota and have had three others with no problems. I have no compliants about the cars, some of the model tend to have a above average group of conceded drivers though.

Thanks for the video. I did some of this testing with a 2006 Prius. I shifted into neutral with my foot on the accelerator and the car behaves perfectly. I don't know if there is a bug in the Prius software, but there are three ways to stop the car, 1) brakes, 2) neutral, 3) turn off. These points are often not covered well by the media.

A Toyota spokesman stated that light pressure on the brake pedal won't activate the brake override. So when the CHP officer approached this Prius and saw brake lights, was he seeing a Prius under heavy braking or light?

@nateriesen What D: If it wasn't for airbags or seatbelts, I would have died last friday. My friend slammed into some steel poles at 60 MPH and he rolled his car. I was in the passenger seat. The car landed on the roof, and thanks to the seatbelts holding us in the seat and the airbags stopping us from hitting the windshield, we survived without any injury. (It was a '97 Ford Taurus. Ironically, I hate Ford. Haha.)

There are definitely cases of unintended acceleration but as for the Prius case that occured recently it seems fishy but like most Americans they are sue happy and all they care about is profiting and hoarding all the money they can get instead of going out and getting themselves a job. As of today 60% of the recalled vehicles in the US have been serviced, Americans can continue to play sharades but it will be harder and harder to do so.

Good video. Are all the accounts of unintended acceleration hoaxes? I doubt that is the case, although it is possible. Did anyone ask the drivers if they attempted to put the cars in neutral or shut off the engine? They may not have, if panicked. But If they tried and the cars didn't respond, what happened? It seems the police could get the answers with a few questions.
