  • HIS BROTHER STUDIES AT MY SCHOOL! :D ;D

  • @Utillitarian dude thats a projection paper screen on which the video is projected......he sticked that thing over the newspaper with senson on it(green and red colour blocks)......and when he turned it the video was gone but the paper screen was still intact........so its obviously REAL!!!!

  • jai mata di,om shiva, ganeshaya namah, hey uparwale mujhe maaf kare jo aise ghatiya log bhi yaha aatein..........I AM SORRY GOD!!!!..jai hind!!

  • I think that was just a blank piece of white paper that was still on the page once he turned it. The video projection actually came from the 6th sense.

It is real technology though. This was back in 2009 also so they've made progress since then.

  • I was happy because I thought it was real, but take a close look at 3:44. if it was an actual projection it would have went away when he turned the page

  • the steve jobs of the future!

  • Interesting ideas here, I'd love to see what technology stems from this.

  • On vas avoir l'air de l'inspecteur gadget ;)

    Mais si vraiment très ingénieux

  • Where can i get info on how to build this? any help would be appreciated

  • Im guessing in the future, the technology would be developed so that we wear a special pair of lightweight and wireless glasses, with one side with a camera attached, and one side with a projector, so that there is no need for the heavy equipment he currently has. Also, special gloves would be worn enhancing the tracking markers he has instead of coloured tape.

I would love to see this happen

  • Look this up on TED Talks. He envisions the technology to free up the user from the desk and create what I like to call an 'osmosis' between the digital and the 'real' world.

  • I think this product will essentially turn humans into walking zombies that care nothing about social interacting and the real world. You are an amazing inventor; however, I disagree on your view on trying to combine both the real world and computer world. I feel there should be good balance and boundary between the two. The idea of making computer technology a "sixth sense" is scary in my opinion. However, as a 19 year old programmer, I do agree a lot on your "invent" project for children.

  • @xXxDrRobxXx

Humans will never stop caring about social interaction. We need it. It's built into us. Maybe what you meant to say was "face-to-face social interaction", but even then that's silly to say. Cell phones and computers already do that. This thing probably would probably do no worse, really.

  • nice dude

  • O_O it's an incredible concept, but as with any technology leap, I do wonder what the implications would be--for the individual and for society as a whole. I would love to try it, but I'd also want to know the psychological drawbacks of regularly using such a device.

  • This need to be developed, I so need this. It would make loads of things easier. Just need to find a way to make it smaller.

  • OMG HE GOT A BLUE WALL OF DEATH!!!!

  • Of course this has lag. It's a work in progress. Once perfected, there will be no need for bulky hardware...iPad included.

  • really nice, imagine what you can do you can lookup peoples in facebook or so and project the names onto the people

  • the idea is cool, but will you wear such a big thing. and the projection isnt that sharp. its kinda blurry.

    ps: why the gay soundtrack

  • @amirpliev well, the guy did it with a $350 worth of stuff. You're free to make a better one!!

  • if i get this i do a glitch with it :p

  • wow thats realcy cool when will it come come out and how do they put it in you???

with that thingh its so easy to cheat at exams, i dont say i would do to that but everybody with 350 dollars maybe would do that. last thing: how do you turn it off?

  • looks laggy for me

  • This is one of the coolest inovation i have ever seen. This is definately the future technology that this world is going to adopt. And i am really happy that this pathbreaking technology is coming from india.....PRANAV HATS OFF TO YOU....ur the best........And fuck off to those 7 who pressed the dislike button.

  • Thats MIT for ya :p

  • bring me!

    now i want to consume

  • This is the best innovation of our times. As Pranav Mistry said-"We don't need to become a machine ourselves by sitting in front of another machine (computer). We can move around and keep in touch with the real as well as the digital world".

  • he is using vectors to help the program distinguish the type of function you want it to do, for instance.... take a picture.

  • that was sooooo cool.

  • Does anyone know when or where the discription of how to make this will be released?

  • ero rimasto al cavallo, l'aratro, e la zappa... invece guarda qui!

  • Comment removed

  • aareally lonely anyone up for cam chat or phone

  • Is it true pranavzombie, that the open source is not coming for five years, or that your skiping that and selling the tech to a major company?

  • what does looking at the paper towels do?

  • @Gamegal07 He's checking to see if it's make from recycled paper.

  • Awesome

I want to see more demos

I'm curious about the tags on people - how does that work and how is it limited?

I think the fact of having such a small affordable projector is an added bonus

  • well, Pranav Mistry really is an inspiration for Indian engineers like me.. regarding the technology, it's amazing. I do have a doubt, how will the projection adjust itself one a moving or unstable surface?

  • if it is really open source then why isnt it available for open testing? Their website gives us no details on how to build it just a price estimate without a rundown of components which is worthless. Is this nothing more than vaporware?

  • india ownage

  • ХОЧУУУУУУ!!!!

  • The future is today!! :D

  • how is that possible? today is the present...

  • Amazing work m8. I can't wait to see this mass produced. I hope this invention rewards you well. I can see you becoming the next bill gates in respect to cash flow. You would def deserve it :P.

  • I saw this in my ITGS class, this is so awesome, do you know how long it will be before we can actually get this? 3-4 years right?

  • Seems unwieldy to have a projector as the primary interface. I think AR with something like an iPhone camera is much more pragmatic than, say, projecting on someone's t-shirt (not to mention, a little less creepy).

  • this is insanely cool , everyone will have to wear white T-shirts in the future D

  • wow. can i buy this? :)

  • Lage Raho Pranav bhai!!!!

  • it's cool but cost of it & when this tech launch any one know?

  • @jazzasdf12 around 350 dollars (it was mentioned in the full video by the inventor him self)

  • @jazzasdf12 Close to 350 to build the prototype but they said later on when they launch the real version it should be way cheaper.

  • well now that the idea is set up, its all up to nano technology to make this more portable!

  • the most amazing technologie i´ve seen on the MIT!

Thanks for share to the world.

    Greetings from spain

  • Minority Report !

  • Cool Concept homie All the very best for your success

  • e poi??? dove arriveremo???????????

  • ma dove arriveremo??????????

  • This would be cool if it was projected on glasses that only you can see. Then the wall projection could be a nice option.

  • @dacci545.. or even contact lenses in the future

  • Amazing innovation! Thank you for sharing.

  • Amazing work Pranav. Must have been hard to get all of that working together in these first appeareances.

  • smart phone with projector nothing new lol hihihi that is totally what the future will be like :)

  • THE BEST

  • This is really amazing innovation..

    The best..

  • impressionnant !!!

  • useless by definition

  • This is really amazing.

It's research like this that could eventually change technology forever. Less things to carry, less wires. It's going to make things a lot easier.

It's gonna be great when this stuff actually becomes available for sale.

  • Doesn't seem to make people draw better.. ;-P jk. I am wondering, can a fast gesture, which can result from a most natural gesture as a painter using a bruch to paint some canevas, can it be relyably interpreted and rendered by the engine?

  • Probably not yet in this more like prototype.

But why not just paint? lol

  • THE BEST

  • Excellent work guys! It's great when engineers take the technology we have to make something really useful and not another evolutionary product. This is truly revolutionary.

    Congratulations from Mexico.

  • how much does it cost? where do i get it? how long does it works untell it shutoff?

  • it's not out on the market yet, this is a prototype demoed by the creator. I guess if you really want it you could rob MIT :).

  • my god. The invention is amazing and the stupid people cant see the issue and stay talk about muslan and terrorism and prejudice????? why you are so dumb. Sometimes I cant understand how big America is with the people like that. Certanly the parents of theirs parents were the really amazing american people. today they are only audience!

  • @bbertani No Pranav is an India, his parents are also Indians. Pranav holds a Master in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT and Master of Design from Industrial Design Center, Indian Institute Of Technology, Bombay, India.

  • i would love to have something like this. it would deffinetly help me out.one thing is what happens if the area you are in is very sunny, most areas shown had dim light. just want to know if you could see it

  • he's a student at mit. it's a genius idea. it's obviously in one of the initial phases, but quite accomplished anyway.

  • It's cool but pretty dumb with those finger thingies and the gear on your chest :\

  • Its the principle that counts. I bet the first iPhone protoype was not as smart as the final product, but it certainly had the gesture functionality to prove its point.

  • cool thing.

    great job.

I would buy one. i love this thing.

  • More and more people are going to be stopped by security and it will be easier for suicide bombers to wander around with bombs on their backs when a lot of people are sporting this thing. Is it worth the hassle and the risk? Hell yes.

  • uh. you know that's his backpack, right? all the computation is done on his smartphone. That's just a backpack he happens to be wearing.

  • you are actually an ignorant moron. he looks indian to me, and has an indian name.

also, muslim is a religion, not a race.

i think you should crawl back under your thick bigotted little rock

  • @walkintosh

    @walkintosh

Dude your way over the line but here is a good statement for you to consider.

Not all white are terrorist but almost all whites are state terrorism perpatrators ie vietnam war, iraq war, laos, cambodia etc drone bombing, cluster bombing , carpet bombing etc.

See your statements fucks you up a little bit more.

  • @walkintosh what is your problem? I am a Hindu, and you are quite derogatory...

  • @Pranam1

Shut the fucjk up tamil tiger terrorist. cocksucking motherfucker. Fucking all brown motherfukers are terrorist. they all kill people everywhere.

  • @walkintosh and you're an overweight, sad excuse for a human being, aren't you? because all white people are fat, trashy, and have no class whatsoever. right? fucking racism can only get you so far in life. obviously, you can't even spell "fuck" right.

  • @lucidl yeah , pranav mistry is an indian.

  • um...muslim looking guy? honestly that is the most idiotic thing i've ever heard. he could be catholic for all we know. stfu cuz thats a stupid stereotype that muslim people are terrorists because the two have no relation at all.

  • Yes, he's indian, but "muslim looking" is the impression a large percentage of americans would percieve him. It's hard to blame them, as the only exposure they have to any cultures in that sub-continent are muslim jihadists on the news.

And yes, it's funny that he was walking around tourist locations with electronics strapped to him.

The invention is pretty awesome though, at least in theory. Needs a couple billion dollars worth of R&D or something :D

  • The fact that most terrorism in the world is perpetrated by middle-eastern terrorists shatters your claim of no relation.

Whether they have a causal relationship is open to debate but the idea is by no means bigoted.

  • Just because a "large percentage of americans" percieve him as muslim, doesnt mean they're right. America is a horribly racist country! Communists, japanese, muslims, arabs, mexicans, hispanics, jews, blacks, etc. the list goes on. and btw just because all you see in the american media is middle-eastern terrorists, doesnt mean that is all that exist. you may think thats funny, but thats because your mind is controlled by the american media. you are not very smart, and dont know what youre saying

  • "because the two have no relation at all."

    well, statistically...

  • fine. then all white people are obese. because, well, statistically....

  • lol i didn't mean it that way. you just said there is no connection between the two and i meant that there actually is. and yeah if i'm white statistically it's more probable that i'm obese than if i belonged to other race:)

  • all the computation is done on his cellphone. That's just his backpack.

  • Nice innovative ideas by the way.But could you please tell, how many of these are actually implemented right now?i mean, how many of these ideas are practical as of now?

  • its not idea its reality dude

  • none of this is faked, this is a prototype from the mit media lab.

  • és rá tudja világítani a dunára, hogy szeretlek piri? nem?

  • is it for real?

  • 好卡

  • 它不走 看不到 我晕

  • in the future maybe men n women will have different nail polish colour on each finger wow the future is looking cool

  • i can t wait when someone will make a working brain chip

  • With this device i will never ever have to think again myself, i can let others do the work and beam it right into my life. My own opinion will never be that censored again =) Thanks big brother! I love you!

  • Classic example of using innovative new tech to do exactly what we already do.

  • oh my god... this is so nice..and it's justa prototype

  • scary. the sci-fi future looms large...

  • I want in on the ground floor.

Are you being underwritten and going public or are you already on the stock market?

  • I foresee in two short years everyone wearing different color nail polish on each finger. Much easier than wearing the bands.

Don't forget to market the nail polish as well. Give Revlon a run for their money.

    ;-{)

  • what wrong with the old retinal projection system? I don't thing projecting images on any surfaces is not the answer for several reasons.

    - first, technically projecting images on non-uniform surfaces will render inconsistent images quality as well as low contrast

    - second, projecting private information would inadvisable and i am sure not many people would accept

    - third, also technical, the power required to project images on larger surfaces instead of on micro displays would be much higher.

  • But, they were just working with today's technology. As they say on TED, this is just the beginning, the possibilities of expansion are endless.

  • on the contrary, microdisplay is an old technology.

but development interest seems to be lukewarm, probably due to lack of market interest...

  • oh, that's interesting. You're probably right about the market interest. or maybe it was cost prohibitive. I don't know.

  • development of certain technology always follow some cycles:

    - market interest will allow for mass production, thus reducing cost

    - continuing market interest drives further research for better and cheaper version

    - cheaper price further attracts more consumers.

  • This is the coolest thing to come out since the i-phone, but this is a thousand times better

  • amazing and cost only 350 bucks cool

  • Wow! the nerd part is the best part, much appreciated and thought-provoking (and special thanks ot Philip K Dick;) Constructive criticism though--if you want interesting creative experimental-minded people to work with this, please lose the easy listening soundtrack. It reeks of parody.

  • hmmm.... I like what there doing here.. ok so my experimentation with werable computers is probably gonna be a lot diffrent...

i am going to plug any and all sensors for collecting imput on my mental state into my werable computer i am building and see if i can create a empatic AI which interacts whith be depending on my mood and a prior records of what and how actions have altered my mood.

esentialy when i am depressed so is my ai.. and it tries to chear me up. :3

  • That's all we need. A Human Wiki-Interface. A few telling the masses what they are looking at. Technically, it's good. socially; a flunk. You make things too easy, it destroys the nature of things. My advice: Forget about the FaceBook generation and concentrate on making this device work to help Doctors help Patients by reducing hospital errors.

  • Could be useful. But only if it works perfectly (still a long way to go). Otherwise it will create more confusion and stress rather than help.

  • mit nerds...im getting this :P

  • Thanks for sharing!

I will post this at Thoughtware (dot) TV.

I can so imagine how our world will become incredibly majestic and magical. The cities of the future will be like none before to behold. We will become artists, and rebuild how we view the world.

  • Just imagine the artwork's position (global position and height) is automatically tagged and stored in a remote database. Then everyone who has an ability to see augmented reality (via a similar technology on glasses, contact lenses, direct brain machine interfaces) can download the artwork from the database and as they walk by they can superimpose the new design of the world on reality.
