I feel like the Transformers films would've been a lot better if they were shot like a really like OVA, or even as a more expanded trilogy. I'm not huge on Transformers, but I just feel like there were too many characters and too many little details to cram into three two-hour-something films.

I don't hate Skidds and Mudflap because they're racist, I hate them because they're idiots, and they hog screentime away from other far more interesting transformers like Sideswipe. Also I don't really dislike the aesthetic, except for what they did to Arcee, that was the worst design ever.

1) I am a fan of the movies; 2) Yes, I agree that some extra 5-second scenes or 1 extra line of dialoge would help clear up the movie a bit; 3) I think that movie Optimus Prime was just a bit to grizzly; 4) I would have liked more IronHide and SideSwipe action; 5) I don't like how SideWays was portrayed; and 6) the reason there wasn't more Devastator was because he is expensive as hell to animate, that's also the reason he was almost never shown in full, only close-ups of different parts

Yea, the whole thing the critics are nitpicking about... they're not important. What's wrong with the film is the bias towards the Autobots. I felt like I was watching a Decepticon Hunting Season, those guys didn't stand a chance, except for maybe in the Forest Battle and that ruins it for me since I like to see fights when you can't tell who's gonna win. An autobot or two should have gotten killed, and not like how Prime was. But then again this movie was just promoting cars and toys.

Every other flaws that isn't the humor I can deal with.

ok, I actually watched the movie again (torrent), and here are my opinions:

yes, the robot farts, balls and humping are still major negatives for the movie, especially since they rob their respective scenes of any gravitas. This holds true for all the Jetfire scenes: instead of appearing a noble, wizened warrior, still standing despite his advanced years, he comes off as a smelly old timer with one foot in the grave, a catankerous old codger caricature.

Although they let Ironhide keep some of his character, the same cannot be said of the other Autobots. Ratchet is reduced to one line, Bee has devolved, the rest are pretty window dressing (Sideswipe, Jolt, the Arcee triplets), or ugly racial stereotypes. Yes, those _are_ ears. Whatever their purpose on the bot, they serve as visual reference for ears. I personally don't find the twins too offensive as a racial stereotype, but that is what they are.

in G1 jetfire/skyfire was the most generous and nicest bot, and that was very very weird concidering he was a decepticon, and you can see alot of those mistakes in old series : things aren't well thought through, but in the movie they did pull of his character.

the scenes you find negative in the were great and maybe you're just a dumbass because old grumpy people fart alot so that didn't feel out of place at all.

if there's one bot you COULD complain about it's optimus : because :

This is probably the most comprehensive review I have seen, heard, or read of the movie so far. Great ponts! I, myself, was not expecting a fantastic plot, and I knew that in satisfying the fans, the movie was going to be all over the place and have many different paces. I was ok with all that. I felt the movie was rushed and I kinda wish that Bay made us wait an extra year to get out a better product. Either way, I was satisfied with the movie.

Thank you for mentioning the tie-in fiction. As a colorist on all the movie fiction that's been out so far, it kinda bites that it feels overlooked- especially since it does explain a few things in the movie(I agree that it's co-dependence on tie-in fiction is a fault that the movie had). Extremely rational and intelligent perspective on the movie; I felt like this was genuinely a review from a real Transformers fan, and not by some shouting idiot(be it for or against the movie).

the whole thing about the big three issues (Devballs, humping dogs/leg, racism) is that they were glaring. It's like watching a well crafted love scene suddenly punctuated by a 2 second goatse shot. The horrifying image gets burned into your psyche a lot longer. In fact a lot of memes function on this very basic principle.

I find this to be the best mostly positive review of the film. Its not hyperbolic (though having engaged in many-a hyperbolic rant about the movie, I have to say it is quite cathartic), yet wasn't gushing with praise, ignoring any and all flaws. Good job. I agree with your aside at the begining that perhapse it is time to move on if you hate the movie. I know I will. (I didn't care for this movie at all, and am what you describe as a casual fan.)

I find it surprising that of all the reviews people have done of this movie, no one has mentioned one of my admittedly very minor and nitpicky complaints; there's actually very few scenes with robots transforming! You see maybe one or two transformation scenes, depending on the 'bot, and a lot of them you never see transform at all. The Twins for example. All transformations are off screen. The Constructicons, outside of Devastator too. I, personally, thought that was kinda stupid.

I have a question. I've pretty much been following the leaked info on the movie too, and saw the tank mode for Megatron. In yet, I was unaware that it could...Ya' know...Fly. So when he kind of hopped on top of a building and transformed, I was like "...Who threw the freagin' tank?" Seeing as how there wasn't a lot of visible jet exhaust. Were you a little weirded out by that at first? It literally looked to me as if someone pitched him on to the building.

The movie was grate, but i would have liked to see a little bit of BG on some of the characters. Like rachet, were was he all this time? just a little more to let people know whats bin going on sense Megs death. Um a little more development in the new guys. Devistator would have bin nice to be a freaking selling point. But all in all it was a good popcorn flick, which is what it was meant to be. And with prime being so badass, it could be a Shattered glass version of him 4 the 3rd movie.

Loved the Review Vangelus, you're right, the ending defiantly needed more closure, I especially want to know what happened to Mudflap and Skids after their tango with Devastator.

All in all, I didn't think it was terrible, I found it quite fun, though I really didn't think the 60 seconds of the Humping/PINGAS jokes needed to be in it, but like you said, it's not worth bitching about.

Great, concise and fair review. Nice to see some insight into the movie instead of endless gushing about how "badass" Optimus Prime or how awful the Twins were.

To add my own thoughts, I think the focusing on moments like Devastator's balls, Jetfire farting etc don't alone ruin the movie, they just stand out as prominent examples of the quite brainless and crude humour the movie dished out every 30 seconds. That's probably why they get so much attention.

According to the Beast Wars series, primitive Earth was raped with energon. What would be cool for a third movie would be if Beast Wars Megatron took one more visit to planet earth to see how the planet has changed since his unexpected visit to the past and find Decepticon Megs and inform him of the overwhelming hidden energon supply. Being the trecharous Starscream, he'd overhear the Megs' conversation, find the energon, and use that to revive his lab with the stasis pods.

This is a person who has been following Transformers for a long time.. and if you are too you probably think that its either suppose to go with the story.. or is a whole new concept.

There are both comics and a novel, but the latter one I heard is not really recommendable. Does use characters though we only know from toys.

There are several comic series primarily- Reign of Starscream details what Starscream did between both movies after his escape in the first one, Defiance shows some backstory to the Fallen and the movieverse in general, and Alliance is a direct prequel to ROTF. Reign kind of drags, but Defiance/Alliance were generally decent action comics.

There are way more cons than pros for this movie. Bay did such a bad job with this film. He said the Fallen was going to be this evil thing like satan, he wasn't. Devastator was to be almost unstoppable, yet he choked on a small autobot. Movie was rushed, to much of Bay's, "oh that will be funny lets just put it in." Hope Bay dosen't make the thrid. I thought Starscream was more like an egor rather than trying to out do Megatron.

i felt prime was a little week in the first movie, and didnt portray the almost "regal" quality he has always been regarded. but in ROTF, he truley is a leader. and the reverance and anger showen by ironhide and ratchet in the air force base scene was spot on.

dont forget, prime saw his actions not of autobot/decepticon, but protecting humanity as a whole.

and yes, he likked "the fallen" waaaaaaaaay too easy. which was a shame.

Even thought you said you wouldn't recommend the movie, I took my dad and younger brother to see it, both of them knowing about TFs, but never watching any. They both liked the movie, but did have mostly the same complaints about it. They didn't like how it jumped around so much, about how Devy wasn't much of a badass he was made out to be, and the final battle with Prime, about how he was a bit violent lol. I loved the movie, but hey, we can't all love it.

I wasn't efected by anything, the movie is Kick asss although I could have done with out Wheelie Humping Mikleas leg, also Mojo humping Frank was hilirious!

I too seriously could of made a 15 min fanboi ranting as well. I guess a TV series could of been made for TF ROTF. METAL (COLD) CASE TRANSFORMERS. ROTF had a crapload of awesome lines =).
