ANYONE can destroy. But think of the raw talent that it takes to create the things of beauty that some men and women are capable of - they are truly the rarest of humans! Art is one of the few things that can bring humans together without the rawness of war and destruction.
Bellissimo.....This piece is one of the reasons Classical in my adolescent years became one of my favorite forms of music...real instruments and real genius and complexity and the level and depth of feeling that could be pulled out of you...WOW
@shag2469 "...real instruments and real genius and complexity and the level and depth of feeling that could be pulled out of you...." I love the way you said that!
Adoro il chiaro di luna...tu sei riuscita o riuscito a renderlo perfetto in sinergia con questa musica suonata dalle mani degli angeli o forse da quelle dei demoni...BRAVO!!

I see 12 thumbs down for this video and it honestly makes me wonder what planet somebody could come from and not love this music and these images. It gives me great hope that there are 844 thumbs up because the vast majority of viewers/listeners have a brain.
I absolutely love and hate this kind of pieces.I love them because the make you want to run into the sunset. All the emotions just burst in you .And hate them because it reminds me to practice more often, and it makes me realise how my piano knowledge is poor. And that is only when I hear it,what happens when I actualy see someone playing (very good) I don't want even to say... :)))
The "ad" really drives me nuts. When you minimize it, it's still at the bottom of the picutre and draws your attention away from the image. When you click "X", it would disappear or at least be over the side.
I'm learning this piece and it is so wonderful to hear this version. It gives flight to new ideas and directions to interpret. It is truly a magnificent work of art. Debussy was a musical genius who put all magnums of beautiful into one, brilliant piece.
truly the most beautiful melody to come outside and see the estars, the universe....feel the breeze.....hear the sea........far, far,far from cities and the noise of humankind

I love this song. Thank you. If we could go back to music like this and put focus on making it important again our world would truly be a different place.
I love when I start playing this song on my piano and I get a weird sensation running through my body and travels out through my hands onto the piano and making it impossible to stop yet making it more beautiful because you realize the sensation is your love for the song and your piano and you lose yourself to the rest of the world concentrating only on playing..... Ah I wish kids my age were able to appreciate the beauty of classical music instead of rock screaming to rape everyone in sight
Thank you so, much for posting this. This is amazing... I don't think I heard it until I started listening to my local classical station/the NPR again. When I heard this song, I literally began to cry...then smile...then cry. (Seriously, I was like the "Rainbow Guy," LOL). Words can't describe how poignant yet inspiring it is. Thank you.
This is a piece that my mother used to play often and as beautifully as this artist. As a child I would go to bed listening to her play this or another piece. I think that is when she would get the time to practice. It was a wonderful way to go to sleep.
@belledejour72 I agree with you! Today's teens lake appropriate cultural upbringing. They watch MTV and become the uncouth, fowl-mouthed,hooligans that is deemed "COOL" in today's society. Very very sad.
I do not consider myself apart of that group of teenage girls, who sit around all day at school and discuss twilight. Most of these girls have brains somewhere in them, but they choose not to use them. Later in life that will come back to haunt them.
Although I am a twilight fan, I would never say "OMG! That's Edward's favorite song!" in response to hearing this genius. It's so beautifully written, I don't know how anyone could stoop so low as to upon hearing this masterpiece immediately think of twilight.
Every time I hear this piece by De Bussy~I think of the sweetness of young love starting out slowly and escalating to extreme passion and then as they age together, to the sweetness that they knew when they were young again, supporting one another as they age and love each other.
RE: this song in Twilight; if you read the book, it is part of the story of Edward whose human life ended in 1918, about the time when this song was written; I've always thought that he brought this into his Vampire life to remind him of his family and life as a human; As for me... I've always loved this song. It is actually part of larger piece written for a dance presentation.
I heard this music on a progressive station on Long Island and qas really moved by it.It is funny, the older you get the moreyou music taste change. I never saw "Twilight to associate this music with that. I just think it is a beutiful piece.
What must have gone through DeBussy's elated mind while he composed this? I imagine him shutting off the whole world, while tirelessly consumed and engrossed in what he must have known was destined to become a very great and famous musical composition. Oh, if we could only have seen the smile of satisfaction upon his face when he arose, finished music in hand, and marching off to present this matchless piece to his awestruck admirers.
It's a beautiful thought hialtimus, and I feel like it's a sin to crash your world.... but Debussy was not very satisfied with this piece, nor did he like the rest of the suite. It wasn't published until years after he wrote it.
Please have a listen to my interpretation of Clair De Lune if you have the time, I would truly appreciate it. You can find it on my page or here watch?v=mw3m6XHJFyc
Have loved this piece since I was a young girl. As much as it pains me to think Debussy's Clare de Lune is associated as Bella's song in the film Twilight, I think perhaps it is better to focus upon the positive aspect, being, Debussy has been translated across the decades and made it into the minds and hearts of todays generation, perhaps giving a new reflection and respect towards classical music. Lets hope it inspires a new wave.
I've always loved this piece of music ever since I heard it as a child I find it very moving . if you cannot be moved by a piece of music or art or theatre you have no soul .bless and love to all
i feel like a movie such as twilight with vampires and teen love and lots of angst doesn't deserve to have this work of art as a soundtrack. Nothing could do this piece justice.
@TheKeenanBoy i wholheartedly agree.....classical music dossent deserve to be tossed in the mud ......i can see that twilight is ok but i leave it at that......to me it has ruined vampires for a whole generation of people....i love music like this
@TheKeenanBoy I would think bringing the "teen" audience to a piece of art such as Debussy would be a good thing! Lets face it Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers could rot anyone's brain lol

It was used in the movie "The Right Stuff" as well, with powerful effect, as Chuck Yeager tried to reach space in a common jet fighter. It epitomises the struggle upwards, the ascention, towards heaven.
Hehe, I can't help but think of several 'classic' hentai that had this song. Yea, I know, totally wrong, but hey, its the perfect music for love-making.
Lets not forget this song was also in Oceans Eleven( the recent one). It's a beautiful piece of music and people are going to exploit it at some point. It makes me happy that anyone has ever heard it. Twilight is, was, and always will be an awful movie but i like that someone who might not have ever been exposed to such good music might finally be.
Great stuff. Want to come and see a translation of the poem that inspired Debussy to compose this extraordinary piece of music? Come and visit 'Clair de Lune' on my channel.
i can't explain this but when i listen to this piece it awakens something in me, except i can't explain what it is. all i know is that it's pretty awesome
the reason for my middle name...claire...comes from this song. my dad loves this song. even though i only listen to rap music..this song is always in my life and i love it.
it's not a sad song, it just makes u think about things, think about being alone.. and it describes the moon so correctly.. and then when i look at the moon the song comes in my head
I've loved this song forever...it was one of my late father's favorites and every time I hear it it reminds me of him. But it doesn't bother me a bit that it was featured in Twilight--it broadened the musical horizons of a whole new generation. How can that be a bad thing? Exquisite music like this is for everyone.
Thank you so much, Enigma 19522, for the breathtaking post.
i agree but however we have forgot one thing, debussy wrote this piece for every one to enjoy not for selfish people like us.... and i don't think debussy will mind if they put this song on twilight ,as long as we all enjoy it...besides it isn't that bad when it 's on twilight...it bings more people to the classical music world and we have to be glad of it...
I totally understand that. It's just that it's sad well for me... if someone says: "That song is so cool! It's from Twilight right?" A personal experience when I was trying a piano for canvassing purposes.. I haven't even seen Twilight. I would have appreciated the comment if it was: "That piece is so cool! Debussy composed that right?" =D
Too right. Talking about films though, it was used well in the survival horror 'Dog Soldiers'. Wasn't used much, but they probably couldn't afford the rest of it haha.
OMG! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU! I hate it when people use it as fashion and pretend to get dibbs on it! YOU CAN'T CALL DIBBS ON IT GOD DAMMIT! Doesn't matter how long you've been liking this piece for!
I love this version the best of all. It has so much more emotion than if you play the music literally/mechanically. I never could understand how people could take an beautiful song and play it like a robot would.
The first time I heard this played was at a Victor Borg concert (yes, that Victor Borg), he played it very much like this. It was the first time I had ever felt enveloped by the music. Beautiful beyond words.
This is a beautiful work. It is sad that to many people know it however and they all think that if you dont know this song then "ohh you must not know how to play the piano at all then"...aghhh i love this song regardless...makes me feel so empty inside.
this is the greatest rendition of this song. period. just as amazing as debussy's own piano roll, if not more so. it brings me to the sky and somewhere else every time.
I don't know if it's the "greatest" rendition of Clair de Lune, it sounds rather generic, and true to the original composition. Check out Jose Iturbi 1940's recording, which I'd argue can hold its own against this much newer recording.
I think I know why you say its much too fast...you probably heard the same source that I did...there's a lot of variation in the RPM speeds of various equipment...not all spin @ 78...the source you heard was 80 or more rpm--giving it that "fast" quality.
This pieces of classical music from Claude Debussy , has always been my favorite piece of classical music. I close my eyes and drift off into another dimension of peacefulness to my soul.
I think Enigma did it justice. Plus it's good on the ears.

@Copernicus53 -- your comment, like few others I've read, truly gets to the heart of the piece. Thank you for your review.

I'd like to know who the pianist is. He or she sounds a lot like Guillermo Rosales.

Timoth1983 1 year ago 17
I felt they used it quite tastefully with oceans 11.. i don't know about this twilight nonsense.. i haven't heard it but i can imagine its awful :P

@Timoth1983 could not have said it any better ....

@Timoth1983 I wish i could argue with that point but it's so true.

Great stuff. Want to come and see a translation of the poem that inspired Debussy to compose this extraordinary piece of music? Come and visit 'Clair de Lune' on my channel.

it's not a sad song, it just makes u think about things, think about being alone.. and it describes the moon so correctly.. and then when i look at the moon the song comes in my head

It's a shame this song is now tied to Twilight. Lets just hope Blade turns up in the next Twilight movie and fucks them up good.

i agree but however we have forgot one thing, debussy wrote this piece for every one to enjoy not for selfish people like us.... and i don't think debussy will mind if they put this song on twilight ,as long as we all enjoy it...besides it isn't that bad when it 's on twilight...it bings more people to the classical music world and we have to be glad of it...
no offend though...:)

Debussy composed that right?" =D
cHiKaDiNg58 1 year ago 3
Too right. Talking about films though, it was used well in the survival horror 'Dog Soldiers'. Wasn't used much, but they probably couldn't afford the rest of it haha.

It is sad that to many people know it however and they all think that if you dont know this song then "ohh you must not know how to play the piano at all then"...aghhh i love this song regardless...makes me feel so empty inside.
darksidepianist 2 years ago
this is the greatest rendition of this song. period. just as amazing as debussy's own piano roll, if not more so. it brings me to the sky and somewhere else every time.
kklocket2 2 years ago 2
I don't know if it's the "greatest" rendition of Clair de Lune, it sounds rather generic, and true to the original composition. Check out Jose Iturbi 1940's recording, which I'd argue can hold its own against this much newer recording.
paolichert 2 years ago
I disagree, its much too fast and cramped up. This one is very expressive and flowing. I personally think its the best.
kklocket2 2 years ago
I think I know why you say its much too fast...you probably heard the same source that I did...there's a lot of variation in the RPM speeds of various equipment...not all spin @ 78...the source you heard was 80 or more rpm--giving it that "fast" quality.

this is very peaceful music...i like it very much
