  • What a great tune. A hidden gem indeed!!

  • My girlfriends name is Lorelei :)

  • Does anyone know what album this is off of?

  • @ALIFEASTHEWETFALCON it's from the 1989 album "Peace and Love"

  • Jeez,..so,..this is what the Pogues sound like without Shane.Rather generic.Sad,....

  • My daughter's mom insisted we name our baby girl Lorelei. So we did. Then I lost them both and have fought for a decade to reclaim my child from the destitude of the family law courts... now I truly understand the meaning hidden within the meaning of such things as those which I previously took for granted and laughed off so heartily in my youth. Cheers.

  • @AbracadAbrasax same my friend sometimes you have to learn the hard way to know what life's all about

  • Why couldn't you use the album cover?

  • as for that cunt in his speedboat? bring back hanging for him

  • Mr Chevron you could sing

  • I named my daughter for this song, and of course the legend of the Lorelei

  • @Campbeautiful I named all my daughters all after songs too

  • @musicmamaof6 I hope none of them is called "The Auld Triangle", or "Manchester Rambler"! What are their names? (Pure curiosity).

  • my name is lorelei ^.^ wonder what ppl would if i went to germany?

  • @pumkinpie5 Most people would ask you if you've already been to the place. Others would ask if you know Gilmore Girls. ;-) I'm German, and I know someone called Loreley - she always gets annoyed by the first question... ;-)

  • @pumkinpie5 Me too :)

  • thumbs up if at first you thought it was a single picture with two ladies in it

  • Sets your blood aflame, with memories you cant identify with, cause it never happened, but, said memories are as real as the ones you know . Maybe this is just a great tool of inception..

  • I love, love this song. It's my favorite on Peace and Love. It could have been a hit single. By the way, was it ever released as a single?

  • i want a cigarette

  • canzone semplicemente meravigliosaaaaaa

  • attended my aunt's funeral yesterday and they played this song.. man, that really got to me... more than I'd like to admit... RIP...

  • Dude, the it was done by Nicole Patricia Molina; her name is in the far right corner.

    Her work is amazing....

  • I hope you got something with this photo. I used to know people that could help you with it, but not so much anymore. You should really shop this one around a bit. It's a spectacular shot. Whoever took it please don't quit and please let me see some more of them! What a shot, it's rare to see a photo that grabs. I would love to see what else you set up.

  • Beautiful photo, beautiful song! Why have I not seen this spectacular pic before, just gorgeous. Always loved going to see The Pogues and exploring my Irish heritage, but whoever took this photo should be proud, it's really excellent!

  • Ij Jesus Christ manifests his power is trough ppoem like this

  • it just the most beutifull song i ever heard.

The most beutifull poem i ever listen,

We are going home, i know, i know now that we are going home., my blessed people, we are going home.

  • One of the best songs ever written. Thanks.

  • Isn't it inspired to a poem by Novalis?

  • Leaving messages no one will read, singing songs none will ever hear. To know my mad mind, my heart and lifes work to disapear. To be called many names from anger I cannot often refrain. Its simply because of pain. The words I write and none will know my name, for me no great honors and no great fame, just this tiny box, the words, the writer with no name. I sit and wait and hope for the change, so I walk often in the rain, drenched in the falling tears of pain. From anger I cannot refrain

  • Unquestionably Phil Chevron.

  • Well for those who wonder, it is not Shane singing here, this was released after he was kick out of the band the first time around. Now, I love the Pogues and think they are at their best with Shane by the mic, but this song shows that the band, who often has been in the shade of drunken maniac shane, really is a f''''''g great band!

  • @bergenrock Shane was still in the band when this was made, it was released in 1989 on the Peace and Love album. It was written by Phil Chevron and he chose to sing it as well. Shane didn't leave until 1991.

  • always loved this song. way more than "fairytale".

  • How could anyone think this was Shane on vocals?

  • fucking shane at his absolute{vodka} best..!!

  • Love this song!

  • that's a good one. don't think that's Shane singing though... it's Kirsty McColl and Phil Chevron dueting says the "Peace And Love" liner notes.

  • Breathtaking song....I am lost in the melody and the words...Shane is a true icon...

  • It does that to you.

  • i have seen shane an pogues on lorely in 1991.... it was a great event for me......

i had seen hem before and after but loreley was a great event for me and my friends.

  • The lorelei is a large rock in a bend in the Rhine River in Germany. A site of hundreds oif boat wrecks over the centuries. The story goes a jilted woman threw herself off of them & drown. She turned inrto a sirten & forever more lores lonely sailors to turn the ship towards the rocks. Instead of finding true love the get a grusome death. But this man swears to his love, if I too shall drown, I will see you rather than her at my last moment.

  • @WickedPete12 Wow really enjoyed reading that comment :) thanks for informing me the story to the song :)

  • An absolutely beautiful song. The eternal soulful voice of Kirsty Maccoll lifts this to the heavens. As you can tell, a favorite song of mine.

  • My mum told me about this song the other day, I love it (:

ps; She almost named me after the song.

  • One of my favourite songs. Reminds me of a girl friend when I was young. My mum went to see the statue of the Lorelei on her rock in the Rhine.

She said It's a bit pornographic. Then again, I don't suppose you would crash you're ship for a nice girl in sensible shoes.

  • "I don't suppose you would crash you're ship for a nice girl in sensible shoes."

    Best comment ever.

  • @maenad1138

    classic! :D

  • @maenad1138

    Amen.

  • lk;lklk;

  • So, who is the woman in the picture, anyway?

  • my misses

  • Awesome Phillip

  • It's rather the other way round. Lorelei was a young maiden who committed suicide at the rock, which is nowadays named after her. She became a siren, who lured the ships with her beautiful singing to the dangerous rock, where the ships cracked. :)

  • She just commited suicide because her husband left her alone, he promised to come back. As Lorelei, between the disappearance of his man and her death was known as a witch. The church cought her, but she was such beautiful, that she got one last wish. He wished o watch the ships one last time from the rock she had waited all the time. She saw a ship and thought it was her beloved husband. She jumped down and that's the way how she died^^

  • sry for the mistakes, and for my bad english^^

"He wished o watch the ships one last time f..."

    I meant she, not he^^

  • Sorry {Kirsty}

  • Kisrty's backing vocals are angelic

  • I think this is the only song they play that I like, but I REALLY like it.

  • Great.

  • Yeah, it's the Pogues, and it's Chevron

  • This song is so "strong". I don't know why, but every time I listen to it I see images of old ships sailing the oceans..

  • it doesn't sound like the pogues, so far i know them

  • It IS the Pogues, I have the album (Peace and Love).

Think it's Phil Chevron that wrote and sang it?

    Love it.

  • it is them. we have the album and named our daughter after this song.

  • you would be mistaken, it's on "peace and love"

  • is the pogues, Chevron on vocals.

  • Sorry, I did not know.

  • But without Shane so you're not altogether wrong in my view.
