My grandfather was in a waffen SS panzer division, his elder brother was a Ju-87 pilot with over 400 missions shot down and died in soviet captivity. His 1st younger brother was in the Heer died at Stalingrad in 43, his youngest brother also in the Heer lost right forearm and right eye to a grenade in France. My grandfather was transferred to the west where he was wounded at Falaise and spent most of the remainder in a hospital bed. Fuck Hitler for sending brave germans to die for his arrogance.

Outcome might be different. Hitler ruined so many things in Eastern front 41 and 42, and also 44-45, Stalingrad, Moscow, Normandy, Fall Blau and so on. Many German officers thought that Hitler wanted to lose war in later 1944. Too bad they failed in assasination attempt.
I will always admire what the Wehrmacht accomplished in the war. They were outnumberd, but managed to fight off the enemy on and on, untill they ran out of ammo or fuel.

War is Brutal. German tanks, planes and guns killed many people, as allies did, but german soldiers were very brave men even they were forgoten by their commanders and their high rank officers sick of power.

As an American... I for one am ready for Germany to seriously re-arm and play a role on the world stage. Germany has a long-standing history of military excellence and any one who's spent time in Germany over the last 20 years or so knows that the German people wouldn't ever in a million years allow another Hitler come to power.
The German Army could one day finally be a force for good.
As an example... IMHO a fully re-armed Bundeswehr could quite effectively lead the war on the Taliban (Germany has elite mountain troops for example) in Afghanistan- freeing US forces to finally focus all their resorces on achieving some kind of passable resolution to the War in Iraq (a conflict the Germans won't no part of).

Most historians nowdays do belive the Wehrmacht overall was concious of the warcrimes being commited. However, they often did little to stop it and some troops and officers even encouraged/participaed in them. I guess it depended on the type of troops/leaders.

I'm no nazi but... Germany is way cooler than some USSR or USA. Just look maybe they have lost the war but it took three sides to defeat them! Three! What Germany conquered in 3 months from the soviet union the soviet had to reconquer 4 years. The of dead was scale 1 german soldier for 10 russian soldiers. All the engines that had been used for the space rockets were the engines from the V2 rockets and not to mention the jet planes....

The Wehrmacht is one of those thing which make me proud to be a German... They fought the whole world, just because they were told to do it. In my eyes they were heroes.

I agree. This movie will let you understand the Regular German Heer Army has nothing to do with politics. Pure military. Doing their duty as a soldier. :D Blame Hitler and his personal Waffen SS (elite but some of them were used as Einsatztruppen: Exterminate...)

As an American... I for one am ready for Germany to seriously re-arm and play a role on the world stage. Germany has a long-standing history of military excellence and any one who's spent time in Germany over the last 20 years or so knows that the German people wouldn't ever in a million years allow another Hitler come to power.
The German Army could one day finally be a force for good.

As an example... IMHO a fully re-armed Bundeswehr could quite effectively lead the war on the Taliban (Germany has elite mountain troops for example) in Afghanistan- freeing US forces to finally focus all their resorces on achieving some kind of passable resolution to the War in Iraq (a conflict the Germans won't no part of).

Seems to me that you that especially you americans are really crazy about wehrmacht and third reich stuff. I live near Kaiserslauten, on the ground that the U.S. Army uses theres an old wehrmacht building which the americans actually use, and they didn´t took off the reichseagle on the front of the building. I guess that turns them on...

There probably is. I remember reading before that there was around 300 Africans living in Germany at the start of the war. At the end, almost all of them had lived. So I guess Hitler wasn't out to get the Africans.

not so. names are subjective, they are made meaningful by how others choose to interpret them. I chose the name as I couldn't think of anything else at the time. simple. I agree, my name carries some emotive qualities,
but it would not matter if I called myself Odin or Apollo or xyz. It's how you interpret it. I await your answer with interest.

Most historians nowdays do belive the Wehrmacht overall was concious of the warcrimes being commited. However, they often did little to stop it and some troops and officers even encouraged/participaed in them. I guess it depended on the type of troops/leaders.
Still, I don't think anyone can say they weren't incredibily heroic and brave! hard to belive I am a human like them.
