Gary is a big hit in So.Cal. He plays the old surfy tunes like none other. He plays em and keeps them popular. Do you want gary to do Linus and Lucy on piano?. The Ventures and Surfaris are Great and Gary pays tribute every night with a 3 piece. You got to love him for that alone! Try selling the surf rock nowadays. I play in an instrumental band and it ain't easy. Way to bring the music Hoey!
ditto on that sir! We're playing surf styled rock up here in Alaska, and while unique to the scene, its still kinda hard to really sell ourselves. haha. I personally always have loved Hoey's versions of the classic surf tunes personally.
I saw Gary Hoey, and his band, perform "LIVE" in Lexington, Michigan! He rocked the house, and then? He rocked our world by doing a Meet n' Greet! Awesome performance... awesome human being!
this is my favorite instrumental song of all time and this has got to be the best version ive ever heard....he even played the real pretty part twice....which ive always wanted someone to do
Just my opinion, but coming from a guy that grew up in the 60's surfing and playing guitar, he doesn't keep the flavor of surf music...it was meant to be fluid, liquid, smooth and flowing like the water it was written for. The only waves I can relate this style of playing to is the nasty ol Wedge. Nasty, gritty, fast, choppy shallow and short lived...
Don't get me wrong, the guy plays great guitar...he just didn't catch the mood with this one.
Gary is awesome. Beats the hell out of all the manufactured crap that the music industry is cranking out these days.
Hey kitshickers......it's time for you to extricate your cranium from your rectal cavity. Feel free to use a dictionary to look up the words you don't understand.
I'd have to say besides the original by the Chantays this is the best version of this song that I've ever heard. How those young kids had this song in their brain back in 1962 is amazing.
This is not bad. But I would have to differ. Check out Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughn's duet on this from the movie "Back to the Beach." The movie is cheesy '60 frankie and annette, but Dick and Stevie flat out rock this score. Check it out on youtube..... Rock on'.....The Tuneman......
This was the final song of last nights show in KC...saw him with Jeff Beck --- Hoey simply rips!!! we met him after the show. very humble and appreciative to his fans. Very cool dude.
@MJK0123 theres a radion station in new hampshire that auctions stuff off for charity before every xmas and 1 item is always a 1 hour personal lesson with gary hoey
yeah but like most bands he's put over all else because it's electric guitar when if you listen to some amazing bass guitar players(ex les claypool) you will see how many things can be done with it that sound awesome.
