Just heard Tomlin's version for the first time today...so simple, yet so profound. Then I saw your video and was just amazed by the way you guys did the song...great job! Glory to God above!!!
Hey NumberOne, I come in peace to you...what I hear you describing is the need for a Relationship with God! That is sooo true! I just want to complement what you said with the fact that belief in God should lead us to Loving Him (relationship) and if we love HIm THEN we will obey Him as a natural response to His Love for us! Abundant Grace to You until Christ returns!
just beliving in god doesnt make you a christian or saved you cant just assume that your a christian just for beliving in god. you could go to church and act like an amazing person but then when you get home your whole life could change. i have been saved baptized and have made my public perfession of faith. god is truely amazing and i love him with all of my heart. but just remember that just beliving in god wont make you a christian. remember you have to work for that status. dos is amazing!
wowowabzee, you need to put things in perspective. The story of Jesus rising from the dead is a myth made up during an era where fantasy stories were the best entertainment. People enjoyed telling stories that were exciting because life had few other types of entertainment. It took 40 years before someone started writing about Jesus...a bit like noone wrote about humans landing on the moon until today.
Myth-making is what made Jesus who Christians think he is. Same goes for Mohammad in Islam.
What a beautiful version you guys have done! I love this song! It's awesome to see young people (not that I'm old) who have a heart for God. I love it!
Jesus is coming... Jesus is coming... Jesus is coming... 10 years later... Jesus is coming... 100 years later... Jesus is coming... 1000 years later... A computer will announce... "WAKE UP INFERIOR THINKING HUMANS, YOUR GOD IS IMAGINARY" And people will FINALLY wake up and stop waiting :-)
Why is it that people have some kind of uncontrollable desire to cut down God at every chance they have?
If you didn't believe in God, you honestly wouldn't care to post that "God is imaginary" on youtube videos. Insult Christians as much as you want, but has God ever done anything to you? Apparently not (cause he's imaginary to you, remember?), so get over it.
I firmly believe a society without open debate about religion including different views is the very worst of society leading to radical and fundamentalist religion.
In a country like USA this is what happens in closed religious sects.
In the middle east you can find entire nations like Iran with that problem.
If you don't enjoy to hear other opinions I can recommend the church. It's a good place to get the narrow view.
I completely agree-debate religion as much as you would like.
But if I were to refer to the oh-so-common "It's a relationship, not a religion." I won't pretend that what I believe in is the absolute truth or take on the fundamentalist view and be like "I'm right, you're wrong!" kind of thing. It's just that I've experienced some amazing things and I really do believe God directly works in my life and others as well.
I don't want to come off as dogmatic or incredibly conservative...
But I really do have a hope in Christ coming back-As illogical and as stupid as it may sound to others...
But I say that I fully believe in a God who transcends human understanding and logic so by holding fast to what I say I believe in and trying to lead a life worthy of God's calling, I find that I don't contradict what I say I believe. Cause nothing pisses me off more than someone who doesn't back up their words-right? You could at least respect that, can't you?
I agree, people expressing an opinion need to think before they speak.
Actually my opinion about religion comes from a lot of my own thinking. It also has evolved from travelling a lot visiting more than 40 countries with many different religions.
Our world is in true religious confusion.
And about the Christian God, it's like all other religions founded on myths (unfortunately).
Like I said, I believe God not to be false as you claim-I really believe in Christ Jesus as the Saviour of this world and that he truly existed and walked among us.
I don't need you to tell me something that I've already made my decision on to be false. Like I said, I respect your opinion, don't discard mine. I never say you're wrong, yet you're the one adamantly stating God is a myth whilst also pricking other Christians with offensive statements-You don't believe but I do. That's all.
As for you, you obviously wouldn't like it either having your own personal beliefs attacked-You never stop to consider just the people. It's all about religion and it's flaws and shortcomings and you can disprove it with your empirical evidence. Like I've said, I don't believe in a religion, I believe in Christ.
I'd like to think of myself as a pretty good example of a follower of Christ-I lead by love, have I once ever attacked you or your belief? I don't lash out defensively in anger.
I honestly could agree that some people are much too dogmatic about there being only one faith, but if I say I believe in God-the God of Abraham and Jacob, it wouldn't make much sense for me to mix up other so-called gods into what I believe because it would clash. I believe in one way through Christ and everyone is given that invitation...It's not as if Christ is exclusive, He's for anyone who bothers to stop, consider, and ask.
LE20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
If you haven't noticed, the OT is history now-We live by a new covenant...We don't put prepubescent teens to death for yelling at their parents or anything.
Also, I'm not one to judge God (question certain things, sometimes, yes) and how He goes about. After all, even in the possibility that God is wrong and you are right, what are you gonna do if He exists? Correct Him?
It seems that you're completely convinced you're right and of course I think I'm right as well. We could just wait? Lol
The OT is supposed to be the manifestation of God. You can't just say it's history.
If God is real then I'm confident he will tell me that I'm right that he is not some sick bastard who kills kids for cursing their parents.
LE 20:9
For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
So am I right that this is pretty darn sick or is this awesome and great for you?
Why is the entire world black and white for you? You've probably had some bad experiences with the fundie's out there but all you seem to be looking for is an excuse to turn me around.
Honestly, I obviously don't have all the answers - What I do know is that God is good and that sin separates us from Him. His character is one of who needs to punish those who sin but by those who repent and believe, are forgiven. God has killed people for sinning-I know, but He's made a new way for today.
wowowabzee, no, I absolutely don't believe a second in all those myth based stories of the Bible. Same goes for the Quran, book of Mormons etc.
Every morning I listen to a Christian channel on the radio when driving to work here in California. It's amazing how much irrational nonsense people swallow. No wonder Muslims can get so incredible fanatic to do crazy things. Muslims are not less intelligent...their religion is just using a stronger psychology of indoctrination/brainwashing.
Don't get me wrong, i don't agree with every Christian who speaks on the radio or tv. So i really don't know how biblically sound that minister is you listen to in the mornings.
But it is true that the bible is historically accurate.
Actually the Bible is in deep violation with verifiable evidence in many ways - not only Genesis. Nothing was written anywhere about Jesus for 40 years...why is that? It's like nobody wrote about humans going to the moon from when it happened until today...SUDDENLY we found it amazing enough to write about.
Of course...reality is that in ancient times stories gradually got blown up. Myth making was the entertainment method of the time. E.g. the Quran is the same thing.
The Jews of the time had an oral tradition of passing down history. That's their culture. They didn't write as much.
Nevertheless even critical historians agree that 1 Corinthians was written around 55 AD, just a 20 year gap from the Resurrection (33 AD) & the same goes for the gospel of Mark.
This doesn't allow myths to develop because the time gap is too short. There were eyewitneses who saw the Resurrection (1 Corinthian 15) & they could easily refute any objections to the Resurrection
A problem sincere, objective-minded inquirers of history have with this astounding story is why history is virtually silent about the Jesus of Nazareth story in the writings of non-Christian Jewish, Greek, and Roman writers. Certainly news of such events, if true, would have spread throughout the Mediterranean world. Yet, the surviving writings of some 35 to 40 independent observers of the first one hundred years following the alleged crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus give no confirmation.
Apparently, you don't know history. Here's a little list of non-christian sources within 150 years of His life: -Tacitus -Seutonius -Thallus -Pliny -Trajan -Hadrian -The Jewish Talmud -Lucian -Mara Bar-Serapion -Phlegon -Josephus Put together, they recount the general story of the New Testament (and these from Non-Christian sources)
"At this time [time of Pilate] there was a wise man who was called Jesus. His conduct was good and was known to be virtuous.. Pilate condemned him to be crucified and to die. But those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion, and that he was alive..he was perhaps the Messiah, concerning whom the prophets have recounted wonders" -Antiquities of the Jews, book 18, chapter 3, section 3, by Josephus
Even the earliest full account of Jesus in the Bible, the Gospel of Mark, is admitted by the Catholic Church to date to at least A.D. 70, a full 40 years after Jesus' alleged death and resurrection. Mark makes reference to an event that happened around A.D. 70, so it could not have been written any earlier. Modern scholars now date the Gospels as being written near A.D. 170, a full 140 years after the alleged event. Of course myth making is a major contributor to these ancient stories.
wowowabzee, no generally I don't believe in any God defined by any of the many religions. Gods are defined by humans usually through our desire for a father figure we can put our hopes into during hardships.
"Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from its readiness to fit in with our instinctual wishful impulses."
But Jesus IS coming back. In His word, Jesus says that He is coming back. He did not give a specific time. so whether it is a week from now, years...that we do not know but we need to be ready for when He does come back. The only reason the Lord put us on this earth was to worship Him and serve and honor Him so i think its awesome to see these two singing and using their gifts to honor and glorify the Lord :)
Empirically the proof is already there through 2000 years of inaction, even when we humans have initiated serious atrocities and wars against each other in the name of God.
How many years do you think we should wait for Jesus before we should start to wonder if the Bible indeed is nothing more than all other old religious writings?
Almost every "believer" trying to prove, every non-believer trying to disprove. Never ending battle and debate. Here's a thought.....maybe too "elementary" and by no means the answer to everything, but it's a thought. Did a hare ever really race a tortoise? Hmmmm.....
bfee76, The battle will not end before we humans have designed the artificial intelligence superior to our own...the day we have made a superior intelligence and creator that will tell us: "I am your God"...and...will continue telling us..."I'm the first real God you ever had. All other Gods before me were imaginary.".
It's the unavoidable consequence of us humans finding ways to design superior intelligence. And that God will also know how to further expand his own intelligence.
I will agree, if this is your point, that we seem to favor designing our God around what we would perceive Him to be. Unfortunately, that is true is most cases as a generalization. My beleif is that there is only one God, whom we will never understand or can completely wrap our minds around. If I did understand Him completely, there would be no point in beleiving in a higher power because He would be on the same level as me. Creating a God that we understood? Yeah, that would work well for most.
Yes, religions are made following human desires. When someone close to you die the desire for meeting that someone in an afterlife becomes very strong, for example. Muslims have a heaven with many virgins and obviously that's a quite different type of desire (the Quran was not authored by women for sure).
The stage we humans are going through now with growing our expertise in AI and other sciences will result in a superior intelligence...question is only when.
God has blessed you two so much. So thanks for sharing your God-given talents for the world to see. May God bless every step in both of your lives. Continue living out Christ in your lives; stay strong. God Bless...I will be praying for you!

Think about this:
The religious leaders of Israel back then wanted to kill Jesus & end His movement, and when He was crucified, they were successful for a time.
Jesus was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, a member of the Jewish council who killed Jesus.
Tell me, if Jesus didn't rise from the dead, why couldn't they just produce the dead body and say "See! Still dead!"
And don't even start with the stealing of the body theory. Coward fishermen could never overpower Roman soliders

Yes, this is what religion is often about...people make a DECISION that they don't want to hear objective opinions conflicting with their faith.
Now, would you agree that the reason why Iran is so tremendously dominated by Islam is not because Muslims are stupid?
Would you agree that Iran's devotion to Islam is about the psychology of allowing only opinions supporting one faith?
Actually these people are often far more convinced than Christians in something quite different.

It's called prophecy.
Jesus predicted the fall of Jerusalem, which happened in 70 AD.
If Mark was written in 70 AD, the Fall should have been PART of the Gospel, not PREDICTED.
And the only myth so far that we've been talking about is atheism.
You fail to show scientific evidence to disprove the need for a Beginner (God) of the universe.
And you're history is badly flawed as well.
