Even if I did rig this up I still would not know how to do this..I don't even see a counter function on the ms calculator on my computer..This is very puzzling..I wish you had an article on this because I want to do this..Great job
How does the counter part on the drill itself work? It seems to me like two parallel pieces of wire are dragged over the cylinder. The cylinder has tape over it except for a little tripe, were it has aluminum foil. When the aluminum side faces up, both wires touch it, so the cycle is complete.
Is this right or have I just designed another counting mechanism?
The two brass rods are about 1mm apart, there is a small piece of metal taped to the chuck of the drill, effectively acting as a cam to close the gap between the two brass strips and create an electrical contact.
hahaha. I laughed like a mad man when I realized what you were doing. As the camera panned across, I expected to see some really complicated software/hardware interface. This is BRILLIANT!!!!!, cheap, and exactly what I need. great job!
Now for the sad part. I feel really stupid. What's the mechanism for closing the circuit every turn? I know, it had something to do with the wires, but I really can't figure out much more.
The mechanism is simply 2 small brass tubes set with a small gap between them. As the drill chuck rotates there is a small piece of wood taped to it that hits one of the tubes causing it to contact with its neighbour, similar idea to old cars that use cam operated "points". I would recomend using something more reliable like a micro switch.
That's brilliant. So simple. Thanks!
