I think this is ridiculous how people go out of their way to keep their PlayStation "cool". I think the manufacturers should stop being asses and just manufacture systems with much more better cooling systems.

I know this because I work at a electronic repair center, and ps3's with ylod have to be kept a good 10 degrees cooler. The main problem is that whenever I repair a system it's full of dust. Also sony spent millons of dollars designing the ps3 I'm sure they know how to keep it cool.

instead of doing all this stuff just try to drill holes where the fan sits on the bottom you will see how cool it runs after i am going to put in a 19 blade fan also to help keep it cooler. these are like gaming cpu's and those have tons of fans or water cooling, plus outside air flows through them. look at the ps3 fan it is sealed just blows on heat sink and the ps3 slim is trying to get in outside air how they designed it now but really cannot feel it pulling any in and the bottom gets hot
@MCMUSICH These fans do work. The internal fan on the ps3 blows hot air out the top and back. It draws in cool air from the front.this sucks more air through the system.it lowered my ps3s temps by around 10 degrees.

@flexer122 I made this mod to fit what i needed. I needed more usb ports and something to cool the ps3. I say a lot of mods on youtube of people adding usb ports to the back of the ps3 from internally. So I made this.
You can just get an old computer power supply and ATX case fans and create the same thing for FREE. Without running fans off of USB power and without voiding a warranty. Just connect the green wire to any ground on the computer power supply and you can then turn it on and off with the switch in the back of the power supply. Then you can attach as many exhaust fans as you want (within reason), in any configuration you want, off of that power supply.
@majesticlizard smart person :) USB powered fans are stupid i would do what u said with a variable speed switch and putting fans on fans does not help airflow AT ALL!
adding a fan on top of another fan is a STUPID idea!!! I think the best way was to rout the usb ports is with a thin wire along the bottom edge of the ps3 and in the back make a small box that sticks on the back and gives support to 8 usb ports using a modified usb +POWERED+ hub. Your concept/ idea is great but that cooler you bought is a POS!! And 1 usb port does not have enough juce to power 3 fans &charge 4 controllers simultaneously, not going to happen, srry. ;D
i love that you are commenting but the controller i bought is fine and the usb has more than enough power. the fans run using practically no amperage at all and the usb ports run perfect. on this rig i have run all fans at high and 4 usb portable hdds (usb power only) there was no drop in transfer speed at all and all 4 hdds ran at full speed without any power loss. i am in computer/electrical engineering 3rd year so i do know what im doing.

there is a ps3 inter-cooler, it looks nicer and looks like it would work better (keep in mind the xb360 inter-cooler is the #1 most successful external red ring peventor)

Dude there is nothing from with the PS3's fans are just fine.There no need for additional fans,there is no need for mods;The PS3 does not need any mods this is just useless. I play PS3 everyday for about 5-6 hours and no heat problems. This not a 360 for god sakes,but I find this a waste of time,besides this just uses more power anyway. please watch language. im using 5 volts at a super low amperage and low resistance. in fact this mod uses less power than charging your controller. this helps without any disadvantages.

sorry ive looked everywhere i can 4 u. u can still buy similar coolers in the usa but as of retail in canada ur boned. there are many coolers just like this by different companies. this was an INTEC cooler. so just look around in stores and look around online.

i knew mine was overheating because the ps3 would get hot enough that it could burn you and it would shut off and blink red lights. it shuts itself down to prevent itself from pulling the xbox 360 trick lol.
i have my ps3 coustomized and it runs hot. it was sitting in a corner and was overheating because it was circulating its own air. i needed this to force the air up and away from the ps3. it worked great.
it was in a confined space and it was circulating its own hot air. i needed to accelerate the air out of the top of the ps3 to have it circulate fresh air. this worked out good

thats not true. in some extream cases the ps3 will overheat. in my situation it was on the floor in a small void just a few inches larger than itself. i needed to devise a way to force some air circulation and i came up with this. i now have a flatscreen hung off the wall and the ps3 up in the open and do not use it anymore. but this is a good alternative.
well anything that get hot like that cant be put in something that small it needs to have at least 3 in where vents are same with 360 but i actully nees 4in.. but yeah i dont care bout 360 anymore so yeah the ps3 can be upt in small spaceis it just needs to have some space where the exit to heat is
do not put these on original 60gb uk models because it iteracts with the ps3's fans and burns them out, its very high risk with uk models especialy with cheap coolers from hong kong off ebay,

...How does this unit do the same? Does it blow air into the vents or suck air out of the vents? Either way, it is flawed because the PS3s complex heatsink does both. The 40GB model on the otherhand, sucks cold air through the top vents (beside the blu-ray drive), that would mean this unit is only usuable on either the 40GB or 60GB. Oh, and Sony doesn't approve of any accesories, if your system fails and they know it is because of a accessory from a third party, your in trouble.
Purchasing an external cooling unit is a waste of money and can be damaging to your PS3. If you were to have the unit switched off and attached to your PS3, you have effectively prevented hot air escaping from the PS3s heatsink. If you were to have this unit in full throttle you would be forcing the fan to spin faster then what it should be. Oh, and another point of concern, the 60GB PS3 blows hot air out half the top and sucks in fresh air with the remaining half...
you have to make an ebay kit. because i need something to make in electronincs in school. i think it could be nice if u could make a scematic i could work out from, since it would be rather unpractical to sit with a laptop watching the tutorial when soldering. if not then its pretty ignoring with the music playing while u are explaineng how to assemble it but the best would be a scematic

technically the fans are meant for 12V but all the lower voltage does is drops the fans rpm.

A totally useless mod - ps3's built in fan is HUGE makes no noise whatsoever and does it's job perfectly.
U get a thumb-down from me for messing with perfection and for playing music while mumbling stuff.

i dont get the point in this. from what i understand, couldnt u just have a cooler from 1 port in the ps3 and have a 4 port usb adaptor in the other ps3 usb port.

I never had any problems with my ps3. The only problem i have it my xbox360 being a twat with the three red lights of death :-(

Wow my PS3 is nevver gunna overheat, everytime i play like GTA4 for like 2 or 3 hourse it literally feels like it wasnt even on!! and no mods why would you ruin such a beautiful machine, not this like the stupid lights people have on them

i knew mine was overheating because the ps3 would get hot enough that it could burn you and it would shut off and blink red lights. it shuts itself down to prevent itself from pulling the xbox 360 trick lol.

i have my ps3 coustomized and it runs hot. it was sitting in a corner and was overheating because it was circulating its own air. i needed this to force the air up and away from the ps3. it worked great.

it was in a confined space and it was circulating its own hot air. i needed to accelerate the air out of the top of the ps3 to have it circulate fresh air. this worked out good

thats not true. in some extream cases the ps3 will overheat. in my situation it was on the floor in a small void just a few inches larger than itself. i needed to devise a way to force some air circulation and i came up with this. i now have a flatscreen hung off the wall and the ps3 up in the open and do not use it anymore. but this is a good alternative.

well anything that get hot like that cant be put in something that small it needs to have at least 3 in where vents are same with 360 but i actully nees 4in.. but yeah i dont care bout 360 anymore so yeah the ps3 can be upt in small spaceis it just needs to have some space where the exit to heat is

do not put these on original 60gb uk models because it iteracts with the ps3's fans and burns them out, its very high risk with uk models especialy with cheap coolers from hong kong off ebay,

...How does this unit do the same? Does it blow air into the vents or suck air out of the vents? Either way, it is flawed because the PS3s complex heatsink does both. The 40GB model on the otherhand, sucks cold air through the top vents (beside the blu-ray drive), that would mean this unit is only usuable on either the 40GB or 60GB. Oh, and Sony doesn't approve of any accesories, if your system fails and they know it is because of a accessory from a third party, your in trouble.

Purchasing an external cooling unit is a waste of money and can be damaging to your PS3. If you were to have the unit switched off and attached to your PS3, you have effectively prevented hot air escaping from the PS3s heatsink. If you were to have this unit in full throttle you would be forcing the fan to spin faster then what it should be. Oh, and another point of concern, the 60GB PS3 blows hot air out half the top and sucks in fresh air with the remaining half...

you have to make an ebay kit. because i need something to make in electronincs in school. i think it could be nice if u could make a scematic i could work out from, since it would be rather unpractical to sit with a laptop watching the tutorial when soldering. if not then its pretty ignoring with the music playing while u are explaineng how to assemble it but the best would be a scematic
