These were good but dangerous car stunts! took a real stuntman to have guts to get behind those wheels back then! No computerized nonsense back then! Enjoyed the video and I will say it once again W.C. Fields was way ahead of his time in comedy!
What a great clip. Of course, these days there are no Fieldses or Skipworths to play the leads, but this section of the movie could EASILY be padded into a two hour action/comedy. I could be a glorious day for somebody!
TALES OF MANHATTAN IS AN EXCELLENT MOVIE, WHICH I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR MANY YEARS, BY WHICH TE I ASK IF YOU COULD UPLOAD TO THE WEB DIRECTOR OF ORCHESTRA HISTORY AND THE EDWARD G. ROBINSON... THANKS.
Totally hilarious! They sure don't make 'em like these classics anymore. The whole movie is pretty good, but this was the best vignette of them all. Well, that and the small part with Charles Laughton. Classic!
Didn't anyone catch the "pun" about "the rubber" in "Sqwuigilum" after they play the kissing game? The actor/comedians made their living with blue comedy, but then they had to pass the censors, which were never around before. So they ,but WC Fields was the Master, had to get around the censors and his one liners that some people think are mistakes, are not. Fields would have a beautiful blonde in the car AND a cat , so he could make a pussy joke and beat censorsip. Mae West, S Tuckergems
No pun intended, but I don't see what was so darn popular about him. I didn't care for his outlook on life and he was totally unattractive. Hated children.
It could be what you say, I know fields. But I'm also taking into consideration that they probably shot this movie over a period of 3 or 4 days, and if it were indeed an error, they probably wouldn't have re-shot it.
I cant stand road hogs; they cheat at 4 way stops (going when it's not their turn), they don't signal when making a turn, and worse they cut in front unsafely - I say get rid of them my little chic-a-dee!
I remember this film so well, especially the Charles Laughton bit where he blows a raspberry at his boss. Lovely to see it again after so many years (nearly 76 years!).
Let me bring you up to speed. An admitted cocaine user didn't just run for president, he actually was elected president, in part because he was honest about his past drug use, and didn't say things like "I never inhaled" and "I never had sex with that woman". I don't know about your kids, but mine are smart enough to realize that this is just a movie. Buy the way, just how much energy is a "man of his years" supposed to have? Your prissy paradigms astound me.
Wow! Thanks for the free advice! Oh "buy" the way, the last man who lied, saying he didn't inhale WAS elected. 'Kay?
"...how much energy is a 'man of his years' supposed to have?" You ask, because you aren't aware of the obvious and simple demands a viewing public places upon an actor. 'Kay? That's why they have Directors. D-i-r-e-c-t-o-r-s.
I knew it! You are a liberal, as evidenced by your convoluted logic and expertise in trying to spin things when you've been caught being stupid. A bit touchy too, or perhaps just a bit touched.
Liberal? I follow no political constraint -- to, and beyond, the point of never being afflicted with the common and shallow compulsion to vote.
Once again, you've proven your inability to see matters clearly -- a vision as clouded as the unwashed windows in your shanty. But enough about your honeymoon.
You don't have to vote to be a liberal. Voting is a shallow compulsion? Tell that to the people who don't get to. Alas, so many bozos to enlighten, so little time.
A Liberal might not mind an ex-cocaine user in office, while a Conservative, most probably, would.
'Kay?
You had the two terms, as well as your continuing and shaky "thought"-process, reversed.
If you feel an individual, such as yourself, could elucidate those around him, start with the person you see in that mirror you stole from Woolworth's.
This film isn't sending ANY nessage to our children, because they are not watching it. What about the inconsiderate driving habits of the "not rich"? You sound like one of those jealous liberals who doesn't have a pot to p*** in. Check my next comment.
Wow! Are you thick (headed). Clearly, you're unaware that this section of videos is the Comedy section. C-o-m-e-d-y.
And that everyone else who read the above knew I was kidding, initially. And that the name I used to sign-off with, "Henry (Cantor) Williams" was the designation used in describing the main character of the film "Whoopee" (1930) 'Kay?
Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. I've done another clip on some old cigarette cards of 1930's actors and actresses: WC Fields, Florence Desmond, Gracie Fields, Boris Karloff from The Mummy, Charles Laughton, Laurence Olivier and many more.
I've always seen WC Fields on charicaturized on various tv shows and old movies, but now that I actually see what he's like... I get it now. He's definitely funnier than I expected.

That line was NOT flubbed. He used that same gag elsewhere- Mud-Turtle/Turtle Dove. It's carefully written and NO accident.

He flubbed the last line of the movie. Don't know why they just didn't re-shoot it.
trisiti 2 years ago
No, Fields might have intentionally meant to say that in the script. Even by 1932, his mangeling of the English language in film was renown.
Mr76Yearsago 2 years ago
Fields was a big fan of the double-take and double-talk.
He'd start saying one phrase, often as an aside and then say what he meant.
What a few more of his movies and you'll see.

What kind of a message is this film sending to our children?
That acts of Road Rage are an acceptable practice for the rich?
Next, America will be allowing admitted cocaine users to run for the presidency of the United States; then where would we be?
Beyond this, Field's overacts in this film.
In later years, he, or a wise-full director, toned down the actor's energy/personality, which was ill-suited for a man of his years.
Henry (Cantor) Williams.
