Unfortunately, other than video, the 60D is a step down from the 50D. Plastic body and other functions removed like AF micro-adjustment.

Most expensive addition I have on my recently purchased Canon 60D as well. Never regretted it. For 1.), it does make your camera stand out and make it look like the higher end Canon DSLRs. 2.) It feels great and non obtrusive. 3.) It's your gamble but I would not recommend the cheap hong kong made ones as some of them tend to overheat and could fry your camera ... Bite the bullet and stay with Canon brand just for this one.

THe grip is less for the extra battery, but for Portrait photographers, because it allows you to hold the grip while taking vertical photos, to help with easier framing

I have this grip and I couldn't imagine using the camera without it. I also have a third party grip for my Canon 60D and it's of Fantastic quality. The rubber grip however doesn't match perfectly that of the grip on the Canon 60D. The canon made grip (which is the one I use) obviously matches perfectly.

I have a 7D and I got a third-party battery grip for £40. It does exactly the same thing as the Canon grip, this will be applicable to the 60D too! If you have the cash then fine, but if you're on a budget don't worry about getting a Canon branded one, you won't be missing out on anything.

Battery grip is essential for the smaller DSLR cameras, because if you have a DSLR camera you're not gonna mind the extra bulk that the battery grip brings, but the much improved batterylife is gonna be soooo soooo sweet!

FYI there are aftermarkets that are made identicle to the canon one and it performs exactly the same, the weight isn't that much more and you can use the thing for EVER with 2 batteries in it too still use the T2i myself with an aftermarket battery grip and no problems what so ever with it $35.00 vs $129.00 for the actual canon one that is made the same. did a side by side comparison of them no different only the name.
