this kinda makes me relise that gymnasticsis a hard sport at the end she says she need tro stick the dismount and she doesnt sound like she even cares when she say didnt happen ): i thought it was a great job
Really? I think their support of each other is part what has made Romanian gymnastics so successful. Everyone needs support, especially these girls, who live away from home and train unimaginably hard every day. Perhaps their voices are little and high pitched, but it wouldn't be the same for me if I didn't hear Romanian girls in the background, willing their teammates on.
She is definitely not my favorite gymnast. She needs to smile and have more artistry. Also she took the place of Alexandra Marinescu TWICE even though Alexandra was the one who originally qualified. Alexandra work as hard as Simona and deserves to be there! Belu only did it because he hated Alexandra because she doesn't train at Deva and gets all of the attention! I know Simona eventually smiled a little bit more at the end, but too late for me.
@Summonearth Marinescu only qualifed ahead of Amanar due to Amanar's falling in team competition both times. That is why Marinescu was pulled out in favor of Amanar. Notice Elfi mentioning Amanar had the highest individual score of anyone in team optionals, even Lilia. And it was Marinescu since she was the last Romanian qualifer both times, finishing below Milo and Gina in 96 individual team scoring, and behind Gina in 97 when there were only 2 spots, so that is why she was the one pulled.
@theobosking Well, part of being a champion is being able to not fall during major competitions. It's understandable why Marinescu was pulled, but not fair; she stuck it during prelims, when Amanar didn't. It's as simple as that. Marinescu should have been given her fair chance to compete when she earned it, not Amanar.
@QueenieQue well who would you have pulled for Simona. Milo, Gina, or Marinescu here? And in 97 Presecan, Gogean, or Marinescu? Romania only had 3 spots in the AA so they had to pull someone both times for Simona. If not Marinescu which one would you have pulled. I think I would have pulled Presecan in 97 actually. In 96 I am not sure, I think it was a toss up between Milo and Marinescu which to pull. Either way Bela had to make a choose both times which of the 3 to pull for Simona.
@QueenieQue While I have mixed feelings about coaches pulling athletes out in favor of those who don't initially qualify, I DO understand Belu here- Amanar fell in compulsories, not her optional routine, on a skill she doesn't do in optionals, and she was a high scorer in the optional team, thus a good indicator for AA. And it was allowed by the rules to make the switch. I get how it's not 'fair'....but I get how he thought it was right.
That tumbling pass was brilliant: flick layout flick layout; brilliant stuff. And she had the best punch front salto on beam, really high. She lands it standing up straight, not in a crouch like most do. Those commentators are so biased towards their own team; how could they not say a word about that great routine???
No they are not "biased toward their own team." They are always impartial when it comes to commentating. And, if you knew anything at all about gymnastics then you would know that Elfi isn't even American.
@EdGringo78 yeah, but who is paying her? An American broadcasting company. Those commentators are biased. I'll admit that I am often biased toward American gymnasts too. Honestly, people in the U.S. wouldn't want to watch it if these commentators didn't play up to their nationalism and the general interests.
@tomsk14 LOL, yeah she can definitely be a bit harsh!! I don't even know why because she wasn't that great of a gymnast herself!! If you've ever watched her vids, she sucks!!!
Trebuie ca a fost tare greu pt ea sa evolueze in conditiile in care se tot auzea aiurea "Comme on, Dominique!" Bravo Simona! Meritai 10 fie si numai pentru asta!
Simona and the rest of the Romanian team were horrible except on Vault n tumbling. Only real ARTISTIC gymnast on that whole squad was Marinescu.

This almost exactly looks like Alexandra Marinescu's beam routine that she did in optionals, minus the mount.

@ralucagymnast You call it a great routine but the judges obviously did not feel that way as it was scored at only a 9.725.

@ralucagymnast I agree. People often bitch about Amanar's routines, but I find them generally very pleasing.
