I'm getting ready to start The South Beach Diet. I went on the Atkins Diet back in 2003 and lost over 10 pounds but i had to quit because it made me constipated...

How much weight did you lose on this diet? I did this diet a looong time ago , I only lasted about 7 days ..after my 5th day I platowed . But i did lose 25 lbs in 5 days. BUt mind you , I am veryy big. Curvy but big lol IM thinking about starting again.

Great description... what are your favorite phase 1 dishes? I just tried the "surprise" mashed potatoes (cauliflower) & thought it was the most tolerable thing I've eaten since this diet started! :P
the sugar substitutes in soda and sugar free candy are made of aspartame and aspartame is made of formaldehyde which is used to embalm dead bodies....GROSS!

Coffee is also allowed just not recommended. The caffeine in coffee is REALLY bad for your body. You can find tons of articles about the dangers of caffeine. I quit smoking--next is coffee =x
Anyway, if you're going to have tea, should probably make it caffeine free--green tea.
I found the diet plan on Wikipedia. Google South Beach Diet and click on the wikipedia of South Beach Diet. Srcoll down to the bottom of the page to the South Beach Diet Vegetarian 101 and click on that. The page has both diet plans on the left of the phases 1,2,&3.
I have lost over 100 pounds 7 times....and yes I've dieted the hard way and the easy way. I have been on every diet known to woman, man, child and Oprah. Everything works and the myth of "oh you'll gain it back if you lose it fast"...."you'll gain it back if you eat it back... that's the way you get it back". The SBD is helping my blood sugar level and it is working. Dream the dream and make it real in your world. We will do it! You do bad, the next time do better.

Good luck! I am a vegetarian as well and I have trouble finding weight loss diets that lack meat as well.
You can usually substitute the chicken for salmon so if you eat fish than that could work for you. Otherwise, tofu might be another alternative you could go for?

You also need to avoid the Aspartame at all costs. Aspartame contains Methanol and is a poison that is proven to cause neurological issues. If you consume lots of diet drinks, yogurt and other sugar-free diet foods you are getting high doses of this stuff. Once I cut out the foods and drinks containing Aspartame I felt a million times better. Do your own research. An awesome replacement for these things is Agave Nectar (found by the honey at the store) or Stevia. BE CAREFUL!!!!!

They also want you to avoid fruit and certain veggies cuz they contain high natural sugars...which of course, do turn into carbs..Just wanted to state that.
This is a great vid, though cuz people always think South Beach and Atkins are the same and they're not. South Beach is a TON healthier.
It's very simple. For breakfast have 2 eggs, a glass of tomato juice, a coffee and a green tea. As a snack have a few nuts. Lunch have a Greek salad. Dinner, have one portion of grilled white meat/fish and some green vegetables. Don't forget not to have your two litres of water a day. And it's done. Do that for 2 weeks and phase 1 is complete. Smoke as many cigarettes as you want. I bought the cookbook, and it seems as if you're expected to be a full time Chef in the kitchen.
Arthur Agatston, M.D. who developed the diet said MANY people want to continue to cook and do gourmet eating, so he got Chef's from South Beach to make recipes FOR THOSE PEOPLE, but you don't have to cook like that. He just shows you how to make recipes with basic food.

I finished my phase 1 two week period last week, but I don't want to move on to phase 2 because I don't want to give up my snacks!! Any suggestions? Can I safely stay on phase 1 for longer? I feel better than I have in years, and my weight is very good for my body size (I am a male 5"9" and weigh about 150LBS)

The only healthy way to lose weight is balance The South Beach Diet like the Atkins is a yoyo diet the faster you loose it the faster you will put it back on. When you know how The South Beach Diet and the Atkins work physiologically upon the liver you may change your mind
to each their own opinion - i have not done South Beach all summer but I have not gained weight either - this is a life style change - once you realize what is good and bad it's easier to eat without the diet book in hand

um... staying on a no carb diet for 2 months, isnt healthy. A diet like the south beach one to me, seems kinda dangerous. Yes you get quick results but its dangerous. Safe weight loss stays gone longer.
If you aren't carful you could end up hurting yourself, and even if it was created by a doctor it was under his supervision. Random people should not be restricting calories so they can drop a few dress sizes no offense but its dangerous.
Hunny, you have the most gorgeous face on youtube. It's clear, soft-looking, and not, not, nottt fat. At all. It's a good thing to have a goal for weight loss, but it's a bad thing to do it in an unhealthy way. If you feel it's just too much, you can stop. Obviously weight loss is going to be a struggle, but you have to know your limits.

I am on phase one right now... it's been a tough week. I have been drinking nothing more than milk - 1%, water, Diet Coke and an Iced Tea. Beef and chicken, lots of eggs and tons of salad. I must cut the bacon bits and carrots...but so far I have dropped 9 pounds since I started last Sunday ( June-21st).... I hope you continue to track your progress-- it helps to hear your sharing.
i was thinking about doing the south beach diet too..i been going to the gym for 2 months (4 days a week) and only lost 5 pounds.. it is really discouraging when i know i eat healthy and excersize and am not losing anything

Wow I wldnt be able to handle that I give u props for it! Have u tried the alli diet I lost 25lbs. from it. I cut out sodas and my other guilty stuff. I was on it for a couple months then my husband left to iraq and food became my friend but I haven't gained the weight back thankfully. I wish u only the best keep up the good work.

This sounds like a great idea. I think everyone should try it and if it works for you thats great!
But we all know that any diet plan never works for everyone.
I myself had to lose a good 40lbs. All I did was eat all organic foods, walk everyday. Clean my house and take in foods and supplements that speed up my metabolism. I naturally have a fast metabolism, so it probably is not a good idea. But it works for me. Just need 10 more lbs to lose.
Make sure to keep the following in my daily diet. And it works for me.
Milk, Whole-Grain Cereal, Oatmeal, for there Calcium, complex carbohydrates, and fiber. jalapeño, Habanero, Cayenne Peppers for the Capsaicin. Green Tea, Coffee because of the Caffeine and a chemical in the tea called EGCG. Lean Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Turkey for Protein and Salmon, Tuna, and Sardines because of the Omega-3 fatty acids
This will help you boost your metabolism and make the the fat break up faster. =D

Great description... what are your favorite phase 1 dishes? I just tried the "surprise" mashed potatoes (cauliflower) & thought it was the most tolerable thing I've eaten since this diet started! :P

Coffee is also allowed just not recommended. The caffeine in coffee is REALLY bad for your body. You can find tons of articles about the dangers of caffeine. I quit smoking--next is coffee =x
Anyway, if you're going to have tea, should probably make it caffeine free--green tea.

I found the diet plan on Wikipedia. Google South Beach Diet and click on the wikipedia of South Beach Diet. Srcoll down to the bottom of the page to the South Beach Diet Vegetarian 101 and click on that. The page has both diet plans on the left of the phases 1,2,&3.

I have lost over 100 pounds 7 times....and yes I've dieted the hard way and the easy way. I have been on every diet known to woman, man, child and Oprah. Everything works and the myth of "oh you'll gain it back if you lose it fast"...."you'll gain it back if you eat it back... that's the way you get it back". The SBD is helping my blood sugar level and it is working. Dream the dream and make it real in your world. We will do it! You do bad, the next time do better.

Good luck! I am a vegetarian as well and I have trouble finding weight loss diets that lack meat as well.
You can usually substitute the chicken for salmon so if you eat fish than that could work for you. Otherwise, tofu might be another alternative you could go for?

You also need to avoid the Aspartame at all costs. Aspartame contains Methanol and is a poison that is proven to cause neurological issues. If you consume lots of diet drinks, yogurt and other sugar-free diet foods you are getting high doses of this stuff. Once I cut out the foods and drinks containing Aspartame I felt a million times better. Do your own research. An awesome replacement for these things is Agave Nectar (found by the honey at the store) or Stevia. BE CAREFUL!!!!!

They also want you to avoid fruit and certain veggies cuz they contain high natural sugars...which of course, do turn into carbs..Just wanted to state that.
This is a great vid, though cuz people always think South Beach and Atkins are the same and they're not. South Beach is a TON healthier.

It's very simple. For breakfast have 2 eggs, a glass of tomato juice, a coffee and a green tea. As a snack have a few nuts. Lunch have a Greek salad. Dinner, have one portion of grilled white meat/fish and some green vegetables. Don't forget not to have your two litres of water a day. And it's done. Do that for 2 weeks and phase 1 is complete. Smoke as many cigarettes as you want. I bought the cookbook, and it seems as if you're expected to be a full time Chef in the kitchen.

Arthur Agatston, M.D. who developed the diet said MANY people want to continue to cook and do gourmet eating, so he got Chef's from South Beach to make recipes FOR THOSE PEOPLE, but you don't have to cook like that. He just shows you how to make recipes with basic food.

you don't necessarily need 2 lists just when you make the family hamburgers put yours on lettuce or just cut it up - stuff like that

Quick Question:
I finished my phase 1 two week period last week, but I don't want to move on to phase 2 because I don't want to give up my snacks!! Any suggestions? Can I safely stay on phase 1 for longer? I feel better than I have in years, and my weight is very good for my body size (I am a male 5"9" and weigh about 150LBS)

um... staying on a no carb diet for 2 months, isnt healthy. A diet like the south beach one to me, seems kinda dangerous. Yes you get quick results but its dangerous. Safe weight loss stays gone longer.
If you aren't carful you could end up hurting yourself, and even if it was created by a doctor it was under his supervision. Random people should not be restricting calories so they can drop a few dress sizes no offense but its dangerous.

Hunny, you have the most gorgeous face on youtube. It's clear, soft-looking, and not, not, nottt fat. At all. It's a good thing to have a goal for weight loss, but it's a bad thing to do it in an unhealthy way. If you feel it's just too much, you can stop. Obviously weight loss is going to be a struggle, but you have to know your limits.

I am on phase one right now... it's been a tough week. I have been drinking nothing more than milk - 1%, water, Diet Coke and an Iced Tea. Beef and chicken, lots of eggs and tons of salad. I must cut the bacon bits and carrots...but so far I have dropped 9 pounds since I started last Sunday ( June-21st).... I hope you continue to track your progress-- it helps to hear your sharing.

i was thinking about doing the south beach diet too..i been going to the gym for 2 months (4 days a week) and only lost 5 pounds.. it is really discouraging when i know i eat healthy and excersize and am not losing anything

Wow I wldnt be able to handle that I give u props for it! Have u tried the alli diet I lost 25lbs. from it. I cut out sodas and my other guilty stuff. I was on it for a couple months then my husband left to iraq and food became my friend but I haven't gained the weight back thankfully. I wish u only the best keep up the good work.

This sounds like a great idea. I think everyone should try it and if it works for you thats great!
But we all know that any diet plan never works for everyone.
I myself had to lose a good 40lbs. All I did was eat all organic foods, walk everyday. Clean my house and take in foods and supplements that speed up my metabolism. I naturally have a fast metabolism, so it probably is not a good idea. But it works for me. Just need 10 more lbs to lose.
Anyways hope you guys get better soon. =D

Make sure to keep the following in my daily diet. And it works for me.
Milk, Whole-Grain Cereal, Oatmeal, for there Calcium, complex carbohydrates, and fiber. jalapeño, Habanero, Cayenne Peppers for the Capsaicin. Green Tea, Coffee because of the Caffeine and a chemical in the tea called EGCG. Lean Beef, Pork, Chicken, and Turkey for Protein and Salmon, Tuna, and Sardines because of the Omega-3 fatty acids
This will help you boost your metabolism and make the the fat break up faster. =D

Thanks for sharing. I just started watching your vidoe's and I have enjoyed the weight loss as well. I am 5"4 and 176 pounds and I want to get to 140 and weight watchers has taken me 4 months to lose 20 pounds!!!!!! I feel like I am working and working and not getting the results I want in the time I want.......I guess I'm too impatient!
