Ron Newcomb is the author of this poem. He lived in Calif. and worked for Space Vector as a guidance engineer. He supported the NASA Sounding Rocket Program from about the late 60's until he died from a heart attack maybe in the early 80's. I'm one of the original sounding rocketeers with 45 years at WFF.
svh104 also confirmed Mr. Newcomb's authorship of the poem. After range safety had to hit destruct because of our 30 year old booster, we drowned out sorrows at an all night, all day party that started at the Rocket Club and ended up in the hospitality suite at the Refuge in Chincoteague. One of the guys from Space Vector recited this poem and the next day, I got him to write it down for me. I've always appreciated that & the memory. Thanks for the comment.
Guess I'm part of the next generation of sounding rocketeers. I've been a TM engineer for NSROC at WFF for about 7+ years. About my second year a veteran engineer passed this along to me. He, nor anyone else I've asked knows Ron Newcomb. And I've asked some guys who've been doing sounding rockets for 20-30 years. Ron's probably someone from the old school:-) 60's or 70's. Aside: My copy states 'and swilled Brazilian beer'. Nice video, nice tribute!
Thanks again. I watched your compilation video and recognized some of the launch pads at Wallops. Pretty cool. I'm guessing that you watched the rest of my SDI sequences. Since I'm kind of from the old school, not a sounding rocketeer, but one who followed them around with a camera, wondered what you thought.

Thank you! Just out of curiosity, how do you know that? From the looks of your page, you look like you know what you are talking about.
I've lost touch with all of the people on those projects. They were a talented bunch and I hated to see the team broken up.
