So in fact it was the beatles. There was alot of speculation it was the beatles since yesterday. That's because Macrumors posted a story yesterday showing evidence that some of the clues pointed to the beatles. The line "tomorrow is just another day" is a song from the beatles and the four diferent clocks represent each of the four members. It's strange, but not surprising apple would make such an announcement considering Steve Jobs is a big beatles fan.
I guess I'm old school. I buy all my music on CD because I like adding the physical copy to my shelf of CDs. I rip them myself. THEN I import them into iTunes. My biggest concern is that if they go to a Cloud model, will they eventually prevent imports or non-Store data? I'm probably being paranoid but all 130 gig of my (legally owned) music is hanging in the balance. Maybe. :)
I think you are right mate in terms of it being cloud based, but you know my views on this. I personally am a little bit cautious of this, but technology has to move forward I just hope that our content is going to be safe and if not that there is something in place as a type of insurance policy. Awesome video mate.
cloud based itunes hmm isnt that streaming your music over wifi.currently only the ipod touch has wifi so how is that gonna work also there is no free national wifi network only hot spots.
But... Buttt.. What you mean? My library is already on the internet?????!!!! I didnt ever buy Anything from the iTunes store.... I have this little thing called cd's
They really need to bring ping to the app store for both interacting with developers and sharing apps with friends. The tech is really wasted on the music industry.
I like the idea of cloud computing as long as I can keep a backup on my machine as well for when the net is down. I think this is one of the coolest looking announcement screens that I have ever seen from Apple. They really know how to hype things up. I am totally excited and appreciate you bringing us the news about this so fast. I was wondering what all this was about and then I go on youtube and I have your great channel to give me the latest news and probable things that will happen. Awesome
people say it just going to be about the Beatles music on itunes but I doubt apple would say that "we will never forget it " if it was just the Beatles
pretty sure its IOS 4.2, apple released an update for itunes (at least to mac users) 6 hours ago, allowing it to sync with ipods/iphones/ipads running IOS 4.2
If they do release the cloud version, that means that I don't need to do anymore Home Sharing between my five iMacs and two MacBook Pros. This will save me a ton of time!
Great work Dave. Your like an Irish version of Chris Pirillo but better. At least we can understand you. Can't wait for the announcement. Thanks for the vid.
i like the idea of a cloud based itunes but i dont think they will do that because then there will be no need for memory on an i-device if everything is in the cloud. it will be just like the apple tv 2g. The only thing i could think of why it would have to have a memory capacity is for apps unless thats in the cloud also.
I'm thinking it won't be anything big.If it was then I'm sure apple would have some sort of special event where Steve would get on stage. And if it's the iTunes cloud service like people are expecting they would have to update iTunes. They won't do that cause they just released the 10.1 update last week. They would've bundled it with 10.1 last week. Also, no hints in iPad 4.2 gold master update given to developers.
Since, most folks have huge iTunes libraries like myself having over 30gb, it's impossible to store all of it on my iPhone. The iphone's is limited to 16gb/32gb flash storage. In that case it only makes sense for apple to allow you to stream your music onto your iPhone from the cloud. It will use alot of bandwidth so I imagine that's what the NC center is for. Also, I'm sure it'll work over 3G so you can be driving in the car and have access to your entire iTunes library to listen to.
@antman2x2. dude, you can still keep your music on your hard drive and not opt to have it synced to the cloud. It's only an additional option they're providing, just like turning ping on/off in iTunes. They're not forcing you to sync your music to the cloud.Your iTunes content will still be on your computers hard drive, but now you also have an option to have a cloud based copy of it.Kind if like a duplicate copy in the cloud.
Dave, I think the bigger picture is syncing to the apple tv since most of the content viewed on it is streamed from the cloud.I mean think about it.They're making this announcement just a week or two before the iPad's 4.2 update, the biggest feature being the airplay connection from the iPad to apple tv.Also, most folks have huge iTunes libraries, so how much storage will they allow to be synced to the cloud.I smell some sort of subscription service.
Awesome! I hope it syncs music from my itunes library most of which I never bought from the iTunes store, presumably it should sync all music regardless, but it may run into some legal trouble for syncing songs without drm protection. However, knowing apple's stance on drm I assume they will allow all the music to sync. That's because back in 2007 Steve jobs wrote a letter criticizing drm protection.
This would be fantastic if it allowed you to no longer have to store music on your Mac, especially for those with the new MacBook Air that have smaller capacity hard drives. My biggest hope is that while in iTunes on your Mac you'll be able to play the music as it streams from the iTunes cloud. This will definitely be a game changer for the iPod, iPhone and iPad when it comes to iTunes and music playback!
@antman2x2 I'm compelled to agree. Going to a cloud system is fine in the business market, but do you really want to give up your personal music files to Apple? And what about my music that didn't come from iTunes? What about my from CD's? Does it have to be uploaded to them now, so I can I listen to what I own? And what if you're not near an internet connection? You're SOL from connecting to your own content.
i think a cloud with all your files on it would be great. I hope for a MobileMe/iTunes tie in of some sort. we'll have to just wait and see i guess... exciting :)
If this is a cloud based iTunes, will it only allow me to listen to music that I've purchased, or will I be able to listen to music that I've gotten from CD's as well?
Ha "London Time". Anyway I know it's not going to happen but I want them to improve the ease of syncing other phones/devices to iTunes (android based phones for example).
@TheSlinkylizard If the companies who make those phones want to sync with iTunes, they can easily do so by licensing the ability from Apple (the work the same way iPods do). You can already sync with iTunes with other devices with an API Apple give anybody the ability to use should they want to use it, it just doesn't sync purchased stuff. It's all about developers being bothered to use the tools they have at their disposal, many don't bother for whatever reason.
I dont know much about this but, syncing over wifi.. downloading your library to your ipod.. If i buy 2-3 albums, surely it will take aaaages for me to 'sync' my ipod? Im not too sure about this, but will be interesting to learn more.
