You have to shear the insulation off the wire or else you will lose lots of money. the bare copper is like $3.00 a pound. and yeah, if you mix different wires/materials they will screw you over and give you mixed prices.

ive had the same deal happen about the wire before. They told me if i have a bucket of copper, and one piece of visible aluminum in in, i will get aluminum price for the whole bucket. also depends who's working also, some guys just look to give you the lowest prices possible. Atleast youl learn from your mistakes
