I can only say... that those peopel really have a strong connection to earth and maybe even to the ghosts and spirits of this world.. i really respect this peopel.. may there culture never fade into black!
Our culture is finaly learning to respect the values and traditions such cermony represents to look past our narrow view of the world now if we would only listen to what we have been warned about for generations the world would be a better place .thankfully many now are.
This is just my silly opinion but the dances I've seen from Din'e (or Navajo) seem to be some of the most powerful with some of the best rhythms and melodies.
I call it beautiful. Also I rememeber something like this at my old school. It was culture week and our school. Asked for some of these to perform. I thought it was like Awe. Oh my goodnessm I couldn;t say anything really at time. All I can say,now I was glad watch. Cause if felt like a lot spiritaul energy coming form them. It was amazing,
If anyone knows where in the USA I could travel to this summer to be instructed in this magnificent dance, please contact me! I live in Oregon and am a Modoc hula-hooper. I want to continue my exploration of the medicine wheel. Peace.
Try to see how many animals they represent........focus on their dance and the music...it can take you an a journey, if you open your mind and let it.
Can only respect and admire these people, I'm sorry that I'm not indian, but I could be ....... I live in Eastern Europe but that the free land called America, but not for those who have been in possession of the land ..... ...... The eagle wing quickly bring Indian brother ..
So cool... I Love, Love, Love.. the many beauties that make up this planet earth..
there obviously is soo... many horrible things and people here on this earth but they can never withstand overcome or overshadow the beauty that makes up this earth...
So beautiful... wish one day I can visit the Grand Canyon or North America, to listen and learn and watch the Native Indians and visit Hawaii or Australia to see the Aboriginees and wow.. Africa too...
I hope all people can appreciate the spiritual value in this ancient form of dance that can only be expressed in this way by us Human Beings. The way of the Navajo (Dine') needs to be included in the greater awareness in order to continue to consciously evolve .
Thiere is such spirual value in recognizing in this ancient dance form the love and appreciation to all of existance and our place as human beings with the awareness and capacity to express it.
Realmente é emocionante ver esses jovens dnaçando com vigor habilidade e alegria com uma canção tão revitalizante, parabéns... que maravilha a cultura ancestral!
Hey that looks like Fun ! and such, is the ultimate purpose of life. it is time we retread our steps back from whence we came, time to reclaim that which has been lost within the hearts of so many. Aho !
his bell fell of thats a sign i was tought if any of your outfit fell of that u would have to pay an elder everthing you have or give him your outfit just to pick it up and you cant touch it or nothing will go right in your life
It's great that they show our traditions in heavy tourist attractions because it hosts people from other nations. We need people from around the world to know that this is American culture, real American culture.
This is so neat and exciting dancing. As a traditional indigenous Australian we do a type of introduced hoop dancing too but nothing like this. Native peoples from all over the world have such rich diversity in our cultures that took centuries, yes even thousands of years to cultivate to what it is today. I really appreciate this posting, and the singing is so like our old chanting dance songs also, that have rich meaning. Much appreciated this is.
I just figured 'hoop dance' would be another kind of dance when I clicked the link. I was watching bear dances and stuff and saw this in the 'suggestions' bar on the right, so I just kinda expected this to be guys dancing in a circle or something. Hehe
People who don't live a life like this, with the values, traditions, really don't understand. This is not a "display" for them, this is life, a never ending circle..... no beginning, no end.
Great dance! Only shame that the acts of the Dine nation don not correspond to those theories: circle of family destroyed by casinos, circle of earth destroyed by uranium exploitation and it's military use, circle of mankind destroyed by one of the most violent racial segragation I met !Circle of nations broken by a blind support to the Bush wars and hisuse of the US army. Good to not be a "pure blood" but a member of the human family!
@chaipasquoi How true your word s. Six million Jews were killed by Nazis, but how many tribal peoples died in this country due to European invasion thru the years? You mention uranium exploitation, just one terrible way to die slowly. The Native miners took radio-active uranium dust home on their work-clothes and exposed their families also. Is'nt the rez system a form of concentration camp without walls? My aunts and uncles were not proud of their Lakota blood, more's the pity.
@colinchick69 Always sad when someone must deny who he is.One of my grandfathers was 25% Anishinabe and I remember that he was interrested of those ancient traditions, because he always made the parallel with the roots of Switzerland ,built by peasant and shepperds revolted against Lords and having a very similar democratic system than the Iroquois. Many want to ignore it but the contact with Native Americans has brought to feodal nations a new point of view about freedom and equal rights.
@chaipasquoi Its too bad our own nation is still victomizing tribal people. On the rez the mineral rights belong to the feds. Thats how the whole uranium mining tragedy started. The oil leases give Tribal members a few pennies,$9. a year while they reap billions. In the 4 corners area Haliburton trucks belch down the road past 10,000 year old petroglyphs, and if you want to take your life in your hands to photograph them, you're quite brave. Do you think there would be global warming ?
I kind of believe that Valentiae is a stubborn transender 13 year old, sitting at this computer with is plants around his swollen angles, fapping to think of a comeback. .. get it.. comeback
Valentiae is just a fuckin dirty ass, loud mouth foreign hippie. Why are you even worried about issues in the US. Are you stubborn because this country doesn't let hippies like you in?

hey forensic find something to FUCK man ! but with that hard life story it is so fucking hard! try with this new American girl Valentiae, she is not so smart , probably not to much beautiful , but with that frustration she need sex too, and she is ready to get your bulit! So fuck off both of you !
1) that about genocide it is not true, you are not judge to know that and you were not any time on that places so can't talk about that so sure!
2) EVEN it is true, you can not hate all people because their Goverment make some bad politic. Way of think just like that , kill the Native Americans ... i love the Navajo culture and this dance was beautiful!! But Why do Navajo's hate Apaches? I dont understand, i always hear of how navajos dislike apache people, and well just plain dont like them! So tell me why? ;]
why do the Irish not like the English? Its Historical animosity. back in the day the Apache and Navajos used to fight each other....however the dislike is not held by every member of each tribe
I believe Apache and Navajo are one in the same. They are both of athabascan ancestry. Some people say that there was a major split in the tribe and the Apaches went to surrounding areas like southern NM and AZ. Some even made it to OK. If you listen to the two languages they are very similiar. I am Navajo and Ive visited the White Mountain Apache Tribe in Mescalero, NM. I dont think the two tribes "hate" each other. i think more of the animosity comes from the split than anything else.
There's no white mountain apaches in Mescalero buddy! haha. It's the Mescalero Apaches. Mixed into all that is the Lipan, Chiracahua, and Mescalero Apaches. But under one name.
I wish I could have been there to see this wonderful performance. My 7 year old daughter is half Navajo is half Yupik Eskimo we live in Alaska. I think it is very imporant for her to know about both her cultural backgrounds. Veruca also loves to hula hoop. But we've never seen anything like this before! When her dad, Ron Etcitty and I were still together he took us to a pow wow both in ShipRock and WindowRock. How I wish I had the money to fly us down there to visit during that time of Spirit.
The Navajo were the first and only Native Americans to use the hoop dance for spiritual purposes. they believed the hoops would help the dancer see oncoming enemies and would get them ready for battle. It began to move Eastward and is now used as a crowd pleaseing dance.
OK, now I have to admit I am impressed with that. When the Olympics roll around in August, you will see rhythmic gymnasts doing some of the same single-hoop moves. I can't help but wonder if this traditional Navajo dance might has inspired some moves, or if they were arrived at independently.
Of course, using so many hoops takes it to a whole different level.
I want share a video of our Feather Dance, from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca.Mexico.Once upo a time we called this continent Anahuac and the people who lived here called themselves Anahuacas, we all share the same Ideology and Philosophy, we are brothers and there will be a time when we all can gather togheter and dance again for the Good of Mother Earth
