  • I agree that Chenoweth has a stronger soprano. But do keep in mind that she has classical opera training and at least ten years on Hilty (plus Hilty's got a beautiful belt as well). They're both fabulous although I do prefer Chenoweth in the part of G(a)linda. However, overall, I think Hilty is shaping up to be a better actress in general.

  • A great F6! OMG, that high with no effort, I wonder what's her top register note is..

  • OMG how is it even possible to hit that note? She is so amazing. I'm pretty sure most people I know couldn't hit that note with years and years of vocal training.

  • I just love it that she has an entire note named after her... :D

  • She has a lovely voice!

  • HOLY MOTHER OF ALL THAT'S MUSICAL! How is anyone able to hit that note?!

  • wow!!! that was crazy good:)

  • also, could someone tell me the note kristin sings at the end,

and the "hilty note" or whatever?

    and such...?

  • @jordan01300 F6

  • Alright, i dont understand these conversations. could someone explain it to me?

    <3 kristin chenoweth.

  • Cheno owns that note. Megan's is out of control.

  • @theshowtunesguy Megan never sang it, she sings a sharp E6, not an F6 as Kristin does.

  • @pedrofribeiro you are aware that E#6 is the same note as F6, right?

  • @ilovethewickeddivas Technically it's not. They are enharmonic equalivents, wich means that if can use both without any sound alteration, but regarding pitch accuracy, the E#6 is a (a little less than a)semi-tone lower than the F6.

  • @pedrofribeiro you're aware that, by definition, enharmonic equivalents are notes that have the same *pitch* but different letter names? Measuring a tone in "...less than a semitone" (also known as microtones btw) is redundant in this case considering that we DON'T do that in western music - if this was an Arabic song then maybe. Play an E#6 on a piano then play an F6 I think you'll find they have the same pitch. Perhaps in theory they shouldn't, but in practice they very much do.

  • It was the Cheno note first but I think it was called the Hilty High Note more often probably because Megan did it more often during NOMTW and it was also recorded more than Cheno. Megan did a few notes like this once..................it was almost as good as this :P

I still like Megan better but Cheno definitely wins at high notes

  • It was the Cheno note before it was the Hilty high note.

  • @heaslch09 o_O I wasn't being condescending, jack ass. I said that's what it said on what I have, which I did say is possibly not official. I NEVER said I was right. I said there was a possibilty. Now, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop being a know it all and get out of my business. Thank you kindly for your patience. Have a great life! :D

  • It's the same note. High F. Both Megan Hilty and Kristin Chenoweth do it. Neither of them invented it, nor was it difficult to even come up with it. It's the next note in the chord, and also the same note that one of the instruments is playing. And just a verification to one of the other posters, I highly doubt that there was a Glinda that sang a G6 at the end, because it wouldn't sound good at all, since it isn't in the key. The next logical step up would be an A6, which no Glinda has done.

  • is it just me or does the audience seem a little lackluster? if i were in the audience and heard that, i would be cheering a lot louder than that!

  • I'm sorry, I can't fathom how someone can say Hilty is better! Kristin has such POWER in these notes! It's just incomparable!

  • kcheno > mhilty

  • "As per someone's request, here's a recording of Kristin Chenoweth hitting the so-called "Hilty high note" at the end of "Thank Goodness." "

Um, no. The otional high notes in Wicked can be up to a G6, and I do not think that's what Cheno is hitting here, it's at least an F6 though. Hilty does not hit that. So if you want to say it's the "Hilty high note" you need to go a bit lower, because she does NOT reach the quality F that Cheno hits in this piece. Damn idiots.

  • @JessicaVictification Notice the phrase "so-called." I'm aware that it's technically a different note, but the point of uploading this in the first place was to prove to some people that Cheno did the high note at the end of this song long before Hilty was ever in the role. The exact note she hits is entirely beside the point. The title of the video is "Cheno Note" for that reason.

  • @flickchick85 I was addressing you, BUT the damn idiots wasn't for you, just so you know. It was for everyone who believes Hilty is better, I like her, and respect her, but she's not. Anyways, I misinterpreted what YOU were saying. I'm sorry :)

  • @JessicaVictification Haha, thanks, I gotcha. No worries. :)

  • @JessicaVictification G6? Are you sure? For that last chord the options I see are A5/C6 and F6. Kristin hits all of those in this. Her "today" starts with an A5 then jumps to a C6 and that last couple of seconds is an F6.

But I have to agree with you. Megan Hilty does not have that highest note, although she does hit C6's better than any other Glinda other than Kristin. She's a great singer, yeah. But I don't see why she's glorified as a better vocalist then Kristin Chenoweth. She is not.

  • @Biskmut It's on my sheet music... I don't think that anyone has actually went for that. But it's there... it could also be something else too, but the G6 is there.

  • @JessicaVictification Oooh! Well, the sheet music doesn't lie! =)

  • @JessicaVictification i'm pretty sure there are no G6's in wicked. just the E6 and this F6

  • @jtg10795 I'm just telling y'all what's on the sheet music.

  • @JessicaVictification which song is the G6 in?

  • @jtg10795 Thank Goodness... but it's not an official thing, I don't think. I'm getting the official book. So I'll let you know :)

  • @JessicaVictification i've never heard of anyone ever doing a G6, it musically makes no sense, just the F6 seems to work

  • @jtg10795 Weeeeeell, it's not gonna change what I'm seeing with my eyeballs.

  • @JessicaVictification ok well tell me what it says when you get the book

  • @jtg10795 I will :) But, I don't know when I'm getting it. Currently saving for Promises, Promises. So it may be sometime after September. I'll try and remember.

  • @JessicaVictification I kinda sorta loved your comment. Way to read my mind. And it's an F6 here.

  • @JessicaVictification I'ts an F6 here. What song is the optional G6 in, I haven't noticed that one

  • @JessicaVictification

Where has anyone hit a G6 in Wicked??

  • Great video, sweetie! Just one teeny thing. That's not the Hilty High Note. That's the Cheno Note. Always has been, always will be.

  • Great video, sweetie! Just one teeny thing. That's not the Hilty High Note. That's the Cheno Note. Always has been, always will be.

  • @secondhandrose1995 Look at the title of the video. That was the entire point I was trying to make (to people suggesting Hilty was the "ultimate G(a)linda" because of the "Hilty High Note") by uploading this - that Cheno did it first. And yeah, I realize it's a different (higher) note, but that's kind of beside the point.

  • Great video, sweetie! Just one teeny thing. That's not the Hilty High Note. That's the Cheno Note. Always has been, always will be.

  • i think for the movie they should cast a new cast. but the best. then wen they grow up, they should get the original cast as in menzel, and cheno. i would be satisfied if they did that.

  • I love the 'when all your dreams come true' <3

  • never heared megan hilty go to the high f

  • hilty note is an e and cheno note is a f

  • lol no. Hilty note is BOTH the F here and the E in NOMTW.

  • thats the freakiest thing ive ever heard

  • I just wanted to say it was the Cheno note before the Hilty High Note....

And she is an amazing soprano!

  • @charmed1823 Cheno Note first :)

  • @TheChenofan first and always :)

  • i think the cheno note is higher then the hilty note

  • They're hitting the same note, Kristin has a higher tone so it sounds higher.

  • @ICouldntBeHappier no., it's C6(2nd option) for hilty and cheno hit the F6(third option)

  • OMG! That was amazing. If I had tried that, I'd been jailed for making people cringe and scream in pain.

  • O.o woah.... impressive

  • what type of soprano is kristin?

  • @LetAllOzBeAgreed: Kristin is a coloratura soprano.

  • Thought so!

    Thanks!

What note is the last note she sings?

  • @LetAllOzBeAgreed: I believe that her last note is an F6.

  • Is that an octave above High F?

  • @LetAllOzBeAgreed: Indeed it is.

  • 'when all your dreams come true' is so beautiful in this performance.

  • FIY I'm pretty sure that Kristin Chenoweth was on broadway BEFORE Megan Hilty... so yeah... the F#6 is "The Cheno Note"

  • The last note is an F above high C.

  • Holy crap.. She rocks.

  • what are the notes she goes up on "day" at the end?

    she goes up three times.

  • I believe the notes are A5 (in the second octave above middle C), C6, and F6 (both of which are in the third octave above middle C).

Her final high note (the F6) is also the same note hit by the Queen of the Night in the opera "The Magic Flute," for any opera buffs out there.

  • woah. wow.

  • the ending note she sings here is actually higher, she took it up another third because when she went up the first time that was the f

  • oooooohhhhhmyyyyyyyygodddddd.

  • Woah. *jaw drops* Notice the second of pause becuase the audience was shocked lol. Then some guy goes *uw* lol. I LOVE YOU KRISTEN!!

  • omg, what were there like 5 people in the audience, dang! That last note deserved someone serious applause damnit!

  • if someone showed me that vid without telling me its kristin id think it was a fake

  • i didnt even know that was physically possible

  • If they do the movie with Cheno in it I hope she'd sing that note. Its almighty and incredible *bows to Cheno's awesomeness*

I'm sure whoever they cast in the movie will be great but I'll probably shed a few tears if she's not in it.

  • I dont want a movie musical, I want them to record the show. In high qualiity. And there should be riffs. Not the soundtrack one.

  • Actually thats a good idea

  • Ya! Like what they did in Cats!

  • And LEGALLY BLONDE:THE MUSICAL

and RENT: FILMED LIVE ON BROADWAY!

  • they are both amazing singers but it is deffinitly not the hilty high note, its the cheno note. i mean she developed the character of glinda from the start and i personaly think she sings a little better.

  • Well that is true but the only reason it's called the Hilty high note is how many times she did it compared to Kristin. This was only the second time I've heard Kristin do it. I've heard Megan do it several times, especially during her Broadway run. But both are FUCKIN AMAZING on that note. I don't care who hits it as long as they do lol

  • she does the same note in ' no one mourns the wicked'... i think she will always be the very best galinda, i really hate Dianne Pilkington whos playing her in london atm... :@

  • who really cares? lol losers....

  • wow... way to be a dumbass.

  • it is NOT the hilty high note..its the Cheno note!!

    Kristin did it first!

  • yeah so its the cheno note. im glad somone is standing up for kristins cheno note.

  • Comment removed

  • That was the highest "Today" note that I have EVER heard!

    That ws incradible!

  • i know thats why its the cheno note and not the "hilty high" note for some reason people cant hear the difference in how much higher this not is than any of the others.

  • i dont know what your talking about. The note that people refer to as the hilty note is an F. she starts out the second syllable of toDAY on an A, then C, then finally F. what megan is known for is exactly what kristin is singing here. neither is higher than the other.

  • i dont know it just sounds higher to me. but kristin still was the first to sing it so it should be known as the cheno note. sorry if you like megan more its just my opinion.

  • I like Cheno more too. And i think Cheno should be known for that note more than Megan too. But the point im making is that the notes are the same. Both notes are F6's. Kristin's is deliciously placed and Megan's is just floating in space but either way they are the same pitch.

  • yea i know the notes are the same its just because her voice naturally high it just sounds higher to me.=)

  • yes!

  • omg it gives me chills! she is so amazing! best galinda in my opinion...i love cheno.

  • they shouldn't have told her to stay away from that F....it sounds beautiful to me...and i know she can go higher simply cuz shes KC but it really does make the night if someone pulls that off, in my opinion

  • i know this sounds dumb, but could u explain how Idina would feel threatened by that, personally, if I were Elphaba, I would want someone to better the show for the audience and then I would be proud of her...but..why threatened, because Idina has an amazing voice, but special not in range, but in belting ability

  • that is crazy. Kristin is not like that.

  • Are you sure that she only did it if she felt threatened by Idina? Where did hear that?

  • please, Idina has NOTHING on Kristin

  • i love them both!

  • From what I understand Kristin was encouraged to stay away from singing the optional F at the end on a regular basis so that other Glinda's that followed wouldn't feel obligated to sing it.

  • that didn't even sound human! kristin is WOW

  • it's kind of stupid how people call it the "hilty high-note" considering Kristin sang it first.

  • yeah, cheno's incredible. i think they just call it that because megan did it a lot during her broadway run, so it became a signature thing, instead of just a little extra surprise.

  • oh, right, see that makes sense! thanks!

  • i'm not downgrading kristins ability or anything, but i'm surprised that it's considered rare for women to get this high. I guess it's true they don't have falsetto because i can get up to these notes on a good day in falsetto and besides the fact i'm a guy i don't particularly rate my singing ability either.

  • It's quite special for a Broadway singer to hit an high F. It's the same F as the highest note in the queen of the night's aria 'der Hölle Rache köcht in meinen Herzen' from Mozart's Zauberflöte. But the fact it's a lengtly sustained F here make's it even harder to produce.

I don't doubt your capaticities as a falsettist, but being one myself I think you are mistaking an octave. Could that be possible? Would love to hear it though!

    Kristin is simply awesome!

  • yeah i think your right. NoMtW high note is an E. i dont have perfect pitch or anything but it doesnt sound like an F, an F would be clashy

  • yes no one mourns the wicked is an E, and thank goodness is an F

  • my god, that's crazy. what note is that?

  • F6, the F above soprano C.

  • holy crap thats amazing.

  • yayy. I knew the note was written as an option for Kristin's range, I wasn't sure if she had done it or not though. Thank you so much for the post

  • tbh, i dont see why people call it the hilty note.

when Cheno was the first to do it

  • I think it's just because Hilty apparently did those notes every night, so they kinda became her signature.

  • weird, i have 2 bootlegged performances with hilty as glinda and she didn't do the note on either one....

  • Ah. Perhaps she didn't do it EVERY performance, then.

  • Oh.

  • Yeah!

  • You are right. it's high E at the end of No one mourns the wicked and high F at the end of Thank Goodness. I've tested it out on the piano and tried it myself.

  • Oops, I meant Thank Goodness. My bad.

  • Yeah, NoMtW is def. higher.

  • Trust me, I know just about everything about Wicked. It's an F6 in NOMTW. The optional note. Kristin, Megan, and Christana DeCcino hit it all of the time. And the one in Thank Goodness is slightly lower than it.

  • You got them switched. NOMTW is F normally. It depends on the singer.

  • OMG. She's AMAAAAZIING. Freak that was high!

  • Aha wrong account. That was me.

  • It would be really amazing if Megan Hilty could hit as high as Kristin can!

  • kristin is great! i personally LIKED megan untill she got OVERHYPER! Its just WEIRD now!

  • Idina is amazing in this show aswell.

Definately one to reccommend to traders :)

Personally, the way Kristin elevates up to the note is alot nicer than Megan, but both are incredible :)

  • now that i listened to it again...it sounded like she was angry during the last high note. O__O Or it was forced out. Well, if you put it in the story's context - maybe it was Glinda's way to vent out steam at that moment ^^;;

  • i agree with krissy87leigh, kristin has a higher vocal range, and is a better singer, and it's known as hilty's high note, as kristin was the first gelinda, so must have been the fist person to perform that song :)

  • wow...this kicks the hilty high note's ASS!

  • tank oo. tank oo kindly. and tank oo to flickchick for bringing us the glorious cheno note! 8dance of joys high note of own*

  • know what i lovez???i lovez me some cheno. cheno is a goddess. she a nightingale i swear! beautious

  • who doesn't luv cheno?????

  • apparently quite a few people. o.o

  • that wasnt the Hilty High Note, the Hilty is and E. that was an F. Cheno happens to have a little bit of a higher range than Magan Hilty.

  • Wow, I've never heard this version of that note before! Her "Cheno notes" are amazing. I love her "Fiyero and I are going to get married, HAAA!!!" squeal. XD <3 ^^

  • WHAT THE HECK!! She doesn't do that on the cd! Just goes to show you how awesome she is...

  • If only she'd done it on the CD...but then, it would be so awesome that it would be banned due to taking up the industry.

And orgasms at the CD listening stations in Barnes & Noble, of course.

  • LOL! I still wish she'd done it on the CD. Although I think it would kill me. Happily <3

  • no its only a B (no one mourns the wicked) and a C (thank goodness) on the CD. of course i say only as if thats easy

  • chya like what you said

  • I agree. I love love love megan hilty but it's the cheno note! not the hilty note! lol cheno started it all :)

  • Exaytly! It's not Kristin doing the Hilty High Note, it's Megan attempting the Cheno Note! And personally I think Kristin carries it far smoother. Megan sounds a bit strangled :/ But hey, I can't even TRY to do these, so I'll not say anything against Megan :)

  • omg

not to sound creepy or anything but the high notes make me horny for some reason

  • yah but she was only doing it because she was trying to fill the shoes kristin left for her

  • totally cheno note!!!!

wen megan took over they changed it too the hilty high note but it will always be kristins how many glindas there are!!

  • buttttttt....megan did it like every night for six months

  • HOLYYY SHITTT her last night omg omg omg is soo high lol..god damn shes soo amazing!! love cheno!! xoxo

  • How is it even possible?!?!?!?! I love her and want to rip out her vocal chords and stick them into my throat at the same time!!! She rocks my socks. Thats all I can say.

  • not boasting or anything but it is possible! i do it singing along to the video-!! she's amazing though!!!

  • do you whistleit r full voice??/

  • full voice

  • YAY! me too. did you know appparently it makes us odd? o.o

  • What are you guys talking about?

(Not meaning for it to sound rude.)

I jsut want to know. Lol.
