They practice touch and go's at the Houma, La airport all the time. They have a very unique whine to the engines. I've seen some days where they will have 3 or 4 of them at a time making 30 or 40 touch and go's for a hour straight. Nice show and a very nimble plane that can turn on a dime.

@NGvlogger The reason is.... it is a General Electric jet engine. It does not have afterburner capabilities. Just like the C-5. If you uninformed have ever seen a C-5 take off it has a whine to it. There are fan blades in the engine. This is what the A-10 has. It is not built for speed, but agility.

on the a10? fuck ya it does!! they use uranaium rounds that not only go through the armor, but it also checks on fire so it basically turns the cabin in to a big oven.

no. they use depleted uranium, as its dense, very dense, and it punches through armour. The tank usually manages to set itself on fire from there on. Dont be fooled into thinking the rounds are at all radioactive. I belive incendiary rounds can be used too

We don't used DP rounds for training. A solid bullet is used for target practice. That is what is shown in this video. In combat we use a combat mix consisting of 5 rounds of High Explosive Incendiary followed by one Depleted Uranium penetrator round. If there isn't any threat from enemy armor we only use the HEI rounds. Max ammo capacity is 1172 rnds. The danger from the depleted uranium rounds is inhalation of small uranium particles present at the target area.

Against modern armor, barring a few extremely lucky hits, no. They actually rely on ricochets coming up into the relatively under-armored bottom of the tank.

It doesn't. GAU-8 is capable of piercing 70mm's of steel, but modern main battle tank has an armour whitch is in some parts even 700mm thick. Modern tank is still a bit vulnerable to attacks from elevated position. So with luck GAU-8 might even do some damage to the tank. The main anti-tank weapon of A-10 is AGM-65 Maverick air-to-surface missile, not the canon.

GAU-8 can and will kill any tank in the field, that relative 700mm thickness is only on the front hull and turret armor, sides and top are weak on any modern tank.

Top of the tank is the weakest part and it's documented GAU-8 can pierce that. Problem is that you must fly high to hit there and if you fly high in combat situation, enemy AA-fire will most likely shoot you down. Sides are also weaker than the front shield. However it would take great marksmanship and luck to make certain kill on the first attack run and doing extra attack run would again give chance to enemy AA-fire to shoot you down.
