I also recall many posts on message boards after their articles presented at the time that made negative comments about the Oath Keepers. I remember I looked up the Oath Keepers, just to see what the fuss was all about, and it didn't make any sense to me. It appears that the website has been updated by this time; good thing.

Jefferson, Paine and Franklin all were Deists- altough Franklin moved away from it in latter life, gave charity to multiple churches of different sects and had an affection for Jesus as did Jefferson (In having affection for Jesus).... Thomas Paine's arguments against Jesus are the same as my own although he is not the reason for my views and he forgets that english is not the original language of the bible. But hatred and discrimination based on religion would have appauled all 3 of them.

I would really be interested in hearing the arguments of the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center) against the Oath Keepers. The SPLC considers the Oath Keepers a terrorist organization, but I do not recall reading any reason why.

However, they did identify them as a possible revival of the Patriot movement, which basically started when JBS was founded and spawned more unsavory militia groups throughout the next few decades.

After you said I should reference the "message boards", I searched through the Oath Keepers web site for mentions of Obama. For every paranoid Glenn Beck or Alex Jones fan slandering Obama, there's a real Oath Keepers member immediately discouraging them as not representing the Oath Keepers(or understanding what the group is).
Oath Keepers is legit and non-partisan.

@TLydon008: I try to stay abreast of all sorts of news. I visited the SPLC website over a year ago. As I recall, the Oath Keepers were on SPLC's "Hate Watch" map then. I also recall many posts on message boards after their articles presented at the time that made negative comments about the Oath Keepers. I remember I looked up the Oath Keepers, just to see what the fuss was all about, and it didn't make any sense to me. It appears that the website has been updated by this time; good thing.

They did put it on "hatewatch" in October 2009. I think it was an understandable mistake.
They must have done it out of fear. At the time, JBS was resurging within the Tea Party. Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin were inciting imagery of violent takeover while appointing themselves constitutional authorities above the supreme court.
I found an article where they make a very weak case linking them to conspiracy theorists. Ironically, using the same broken logic as conspiracy theorists.

Individuals who take an oath to serve and protect citizens of this country, whether in our police forces or military or other related organizations, put their lives on the line. How many of us can say that? I've helped people out of dire situations before, but not on a daily basis. I thought the Oath Keepers should not be maligned.
