  • why does everyone click a bajillion times where they want their unit to go. It doesn't do anything

  • @NewGameReleases so when i send my replay packs to the ladies they'll look at the apm screen and be like holy fuck what a pimp

  • Hey I can't wait to get mine next week and get down on SC. But my questions is: Does the power supply have 3-prongs(grounded)?

  • if your effects are on high why does it not show the buildings explode? and just wondering but can you MAX the settings out and its playable still?

  • @TheCrunShow I dunno, maybe the camera was too bad to see it. I recorded this before I found out about high performance settings. After the beta comes back up I'll see how well SC2 runs on these new power settings.

  • @TheCrunShow on this computer you can play on ultra! WITH NO LAG AT ALL!

  • this vid was taken before i realized that i was on entertainment instead of high performance power mode. by the way what dell laptop are you talking about

  • whats the program that has u have the yellow fps in the top right hand corner? is it fraps?

  • yes

  • were u using turbo boost mode to get your i7 running at 2.8 ghz?

sc2 is purposely designed to take advantage of the cpu more than the gpu. there are benchmarks out there that show how HUGE of a difference even just 100 MHz makes in performance improvements.

    thanks for the vid btw

  • Hmm I'm not sure. Does it kick in automatically?

  • @SigningUpForPorn

I'm almost certain it does not-- i think you need to go into the bios and just change one of the options. Here's an easy way of telling: go to your system properties and see what your cpu is running at. I'm pretty sure the stock clock is 1.6 ghz, so if it's at that, find a forum online and they'll for sure have instructions on how to bump it up to 2.8 ghz.

The only reason i think it's clocked at 1.6 ghz is for the extended battery life, so if you're gaming, crank it up!!

  • Had a look in the BIOS, found nothing about changing CPU options. I Googled some for the activation of the turbo boost i7 function and couldn't really find anything there. However I did find out that I didn't change the Power4Gear power consumption settings from Entertainment to High Performance. I haven't tried to play games since setting it but my idle temperature has gone up 1 or 2 degrees.

  • @SigningUpForPorn

Did you check under system properties to see what clock speed your cpu is running at?

  • It still says 1.6GHz but I don't think that would change even if the turbo boost were on since the CPU is manufactured for 1.6GHz and the turbo boost is like a mod or something. Anyway, playing some other games now and the temperatures are approaching 80*C, so that High Performance setting must have done something good.

  • @SigningUpForPorn just so you guys know, turbo boost as a feature of the i7 technology. you dont need to over clock it; its regular speed is 1.6, however as it is put under stress it will increase this clock speed all the way up to 2.8ghz if necessary. turbo boost is automatic.

  • thanks

  • @SigningUpForPorn lol ive got the same lappy, beast of a thing, for the money anyways, I max out all my games at 1680x1050, on an external monitor. when i got it, i thought, "gee this runs fast for 1.6, wonder how well it runs at 2.8!", so after unsuccessful searching of the bios, opened up CPU-Z and, ta-da, the more stress i put on it, the higher the speed cranks up...automatically :) I've been trying to find a way to overclock it, but thought it best not to. it runs great as it is.

  • @SigningUpForPorn no. some have a button for it like the asus g73. while the rest you have to activate it in the bios i believe.

  • hi, on which setings you run sc2? Ultra? extreme?

  • Picture of settings in video description.

  • can u do an online game with this connected to a 1920 x 1080 p monitor? thanks

  • could u take some high resolution video/pic of the laptop itself

how's the sound? i heard it sucks

  • Sure, I'll try and get that done tomorrow. As for the sound, in my videos the laptop is about half volume and I think it's pretty clear even in such shit quality Youtube videos. But I don't have any other modern laptop to compare speakers with. I usually use headphones but the speakers have worked fine for me.

  • any idea how long the battery life is when unplugged? but again i assume that we can always get an extended battery pack..

when did you buy the N61JQ-A1. how much did you pay? and where did you buy it from ? (web or store)

sorry for throwing so many questions. I'm just so excited about purchasing this laptop.

  • A little over 2 hours in my experience. I bought mine at GenTech PC for $1033 shipped.

  • hi, SigningUpForPorn

i was just going through your youtube vids. the games seem to work wonderfully. the frame rate is just amazing for a laptop thats just 1000$

but i had some other concerns that you haven't addressed. have you faced any heating issues?

i have been reading that ASUS laptops especially the high end one like the "ASUS N61JQ-A1" tend to overheat.

i though it would be nice if you could tell me a bit about this. and is there any other problems?

  • Not really. I've had SpeedFan monitoring my temperatures specifically because I heard about the heat. While filming the games I've seen temps display around 70-85*C. I'm also using the stock thermal paste, though if you shop from like XOTICPC or PowerNotebooks you can opt for better thermal paste that reduces that temp around 10*C for $25. Haven't really had any other problems besides it being a fingerprint magnet, but I guess that's the price of looking good.

  • man it goes up to 85* wow, is int the really hot.

well i just hope the laptop can handle that kind of temperature. (don't care much about fingerprints, all that matters is the performance) :)

anyways how is the i7 doing, does the overclock work well. is there a way to manually adjust it?

i heard there is a lot of bloat-ware on this laptop. but then i suppose one can uninstall unnecessary software.

  • Eh, I think I might be over-exaggerating. I got done playing some GRID earlier on max settings, alt+tabbed out and it said I was at 71*C. I don't remember what game I was playing that made it go past even 75*C. The i7 is pretty nice, though most software doesn't use all its cores, and I also don't know much about overclocking. I heard it's possible but it'll void your warranty. There is a lot of bloatware but I found a thread over at Notebook Review that explains what each app does.

  • Also it has pretty bad battery life due to its i7 + 5730 and no switchable graphics, in addition to the laptop performance being throttled if you don't have it plugged into a power outlet.

  • man it looks amazing i was thinking to get n61jq or g72gx but i set my mind to choose n61jq thx for great vid!!

  • PLAY AS ZERG EVERYDAY

  • i did a round as terran today this is now invalid
