  • Fuckin hate watching people clean something then put it on the ground.

  • Thanks!

  • watch our trickshots video

  • Did u baith ir kids in that Tupperware before Fucking ur air filter with soap and water

  • Awesome! under $100 that's exactly what I've been into for over 15 years modding my ride w/o breaking the back. I'm all about functionality and a bit less on looks, but both are nice. Thanks for the how to but you didn't say what you were squirting in the tray, looks like dawn dish liquid. I used tide and while it worked(the water was filthy when I removed the filter after swishing around), I still clean about 4 more time, I sprayed and soaked til the water came out clean from the filter.

  • What a shit video. Shows how to turn hose on and off but not how to oil filter.

  • I CANT FIND THAT OIL

    ANY ALTERNATIVE THING TO USE??

  • Would it be ok if I was drinking BEFORE letting it dry?

  • sweet vid, good work.

  • dont drink and drive man!

  • Hey, is it ok if I use the K&N cleaner and oil on my BBK cold air intake? I'm guessing its a universal kind of cleaner but I'm just wondering.

  • Comment removed

  • nice step "have a beer" great!

  • I had to laugh at the "have a beer" step!!

  • what would happen if i used a k@n air filter cleaner to clean a differnt brand air filter would it fuck up the filter

  • I think this video has a virus. It added a retarded song!

  • @arios211 song is by Blue Man Group they have more talant in 1 finger than you and me combined

  • @oellrichm someone may not think that until the actually see how they make their music.

  • wow ..nice video nice truck ..cool song ..great help ..awsome post ..thanks

  • If i drink coors will my engine light still come on?

  • Which beer should I use?

  • congrats on hitting 300k sir, what year is your dodge? Also what is that green plastic tub your filter sets in? Did all Dakotas have them?

  • @rkoduke3d its a 93 and currently at 352k, the tub is a home made air box that funnels cold air from hood scoop dirctly through the air filter and into the motor, it is not stock or a factory option

  • @oellrichm very nice, one more thing. What is the sensor for?

  • @rkoduke3d the sensor is the (IAT) Intake Air Temp. relocated from the #2 intake runner to the air box

  • That's gotta be one of the coolest (ha ha) ways of getting cool / ram air into that truck.. Well done sir!

  • @grizdroidx and its under $100 to do

  • to much work claening out a filter not my cup of tea i would rather buy a new paper filter for 5 bucks and would of been done in a fraction of the time it gives u what 3 more hourse power not worth 50 bucks for a filter that i have to clean rinse whait half the day for it to dry and then oil ithink i will stick to paper oem filters

  • @Kspitzn78 Does your paper filter improve fuel mileage by 2-5 mpg? Have a 50,000 mile service interval? Have a 1,000,000 mile warranty? Average service interval of a paper filter is 15,000 miles @ $5 ea (a real cheapie) over 1 million miles you will buy 67 paper filters @ $5 if your lucky = $335. The K&N over 1 million miles is 1 filter @ $50 + 2 service kits (10 services per kit) @ $12 = $74 over its life ... that's $261 cheaper and better fuel economy. Math doesn't lie.

  • was that dish soap you used?

  • @DALE97DSM yes it was Dawn

  • @oellrichm Mmm, interesting? I know they have K&N oil and solution sold separetly.

Another question, After cleaning and soaking it in dish soap. Did the dish soap destroyed the filter element.

Did it perform the same compared to the K&n cleaning solution.

  • @DALE97DSM My filter is still good and still in service today

  • Interesting video, I wish I could have a K&N here in Pakistan, but got bigger problems to worry about at the moment. I have heard using ordinary soap and water wash can open up the minute honey-cones of the filter, hence reducing the filtering? Wouldn't that be bad for the engine?

Or is it just a myth? I hope its a myth cuz the Samota I am using is pretty darn expensive :P Thank you Oellrichm.

  • GOOD VID

  • "Lightly shake to remove Excess water" BAM BAM BAM

  • I will start using dish soap once my cleaner runs out. I had to buy the oil and cleaner in a pack. Now they have it on its own. Sucks. Thanks for the video though.

  • yeaaah! Cubs jersey! I'm just glad you showed me how to turn the hose on/off. lol

  • Cubs suck haha

  • Funny how that Dakota looked like a GMT400 series Chevy! hahah. Need to tighten that faucet knob. That filter isn't clean unless you use a degreaser type soap that will dissolve the oil which allow the dirt to wash away as well. Nicely put together video though!

  • And last ... Buy a new Car :D

  • im only 18? i cant lol.

  • you should of used the k&n cleaner, the k&n cleaner get the oil, dirt, and everything else off the filter plus if u use anything else it will void k&n's warranty. not sure how well soap and water cleaned it but i have always used the k&n cleaner.

  • 300 *** miles!!! holy crap :P

  • CHRIST that filter was dirty!

  • do you really need the oil what happens if you just clean it like you did but i except putting the oil?

  • @bolasdemaderaful The filter will be fine and will be able to block big dust particles and debris, but the oil is what captures the fine dust particles (also harmful for your engine). So skip out on the oil and harm your engine :(

  • does this apply for the cone-shaped filters too?

  • @XuRg3oN yes is does just remomber to rinse from inside out

  • Im a car noob.but why apply oil to air filter??? I though air filter post be dry?

  • @sniper4usmc the oil is what catches the dirt, dust, and road dust particles, the standard paper filter is dry

  • @sniper4usmc you thought right except that this only applys to k&n filters or filters made for this process only,,,,,, not all filters use this method

  • K&N suggest using their air filter cleaner and then the oil. i would rather just use the oil myself its cheaper what sort of soap do you use?

  • @totalguy I use either Dawn or Joy dish soap

  • @oellrichm

ah we dont have any of that name over here but i know what you mean so i think i can use fairy liquid....... thanks

p.s. i like the choice of music :)

  • I'm going to filly bucket using a hose WITH a spray nozzle! How do u like them apples....

  • nice truck dude thanks for the tutorial

  • I love Dodge Trucks and btw thats a cool Dakota

  • One other thing K&N are very clever sales people. Once you buy their product you are then hooked into buying the air filter cleaner and oil for the life of the product. total cost could be £60-£70. For that money I could buy 6 brand Bosch or Wix air filters and change them every 6-8 months giving me optimum protection for 3-4 years. I also wont need to have to clean them and spend time doing that, getting my hands dirty with oil and cleaner..not to mention waiting for it to dry off like thek&n

  • @Silverchair84 KN air filters breathe better.

  • @brettmi9

At the expense of filtration as well as having to specially go and dispose of the oil legally. Most just chuck it down their local drain and into the sewer. Not very environmentally friendly.

  • Despite what K&N claim, there is significant evidence to say their panel filters filter below par. i.e. filter worst that paper (there's tests online with photographic evidence to prove this) Also oil can get on the MAF as if the oil is not properly absorbed into the cotton and left for 24 hours to dry.

  • Wow thanks!! Was that just dish soap or some other soap you used? I have a bunch of oil filter oil spray, but have to keep buying the recharge kits to get the soap solution.

Thanks!! You'll save me even more money cleaning my filter now with the soap idea!! :D Another guy recommended oxi clean on a forum I read on, any ideas there?

  • this is not how you clean a k&n filter, you use their recharge kits.

  • Dont need to oil the filter?

    what do u think?

  • @limlamo656 you must replace the oil its not there as a gimik its there for the dust to stick to,like in a dirt bike

if its just a standard filter you just replace it when dirty but all high flow filters need that oil man!!

  • Nice truck! Dodge Dakota? What year? What size rims and tires are those?

My engine light came on so I though Id check the air filter and it looks fine I guess.. only got about 15k of street on it. Think I need to clean it?

    Any kind of soap okay?

    Thanks.

  • @cyberpine it is a 1993, the wheels aree 15x8 crager soft 8 style,. the k&n is probable ok as they can go 50k between cleanings, you may have other emisions issue,

  • @cyberpine are you kidding me? if you think thats a nice truck i dont even wanna see what you drive

  • :)

I like that body style and the way it looks with wider rims with the negative offset. It's got potential.

    I'm restoring 1987 Chevy C10.

  • 3:16 BEST tutorial ever :D

  • Lol 1:40, looks like your pissin on it.

  • @yaknowurright hell yeah lol

  • is this a blue man group song? and why do you disconnect the air scensor?

  • Yes song is Blue Man Group titled "Rods and Cones". The unplugging of the sensor is so the air filter box or housing can be removed for easier cleaning also to avoid dropping anything down the trottle body.

  • LOL Billy Bob just wastes a hell of a lot of water!!

  • damnit! i cant clean my filter! i dont have any beer! :P

  • Awesome video man !

  • and how often is this done?

  • From K&N: The filter does not require cleaning if you can still see the wire screen on the entire air filter regardless of how dirty it may appear. When used in normal paved road, street or highway conditions, our replacement air filters that fit in the factory air box should require cleaning every 50,000 miles and our large conical filters on an intake system should require cleaning every 100,000 miles. When used in dusty or off-road environments, our filters will require cleaning more often.

  • wow 300367 miles what engine oil do you use?

  • With religious oil services and allways using the same brand oil every time even for the ocasional 1/2qt top off between changes, I am using Exxon Tiger flow 10-40 and STP S16 oil filter. Current miles are 333,328 .

  • like the stripes on your truck !

  • About the beer... It can be Corona or must to be Budweisser ? .... Light or Dark ?

  • why aren't you using the cleaner in the recharge kit? its safer and you might as well since you need to buy it for the oil anyway

  • In the kit the cleaner will run out before the oil does. At making of this video I only had the oil left.

  • No need for a K&N recharge kit?

  • You will still need the kit for the oil that needs to be put back into the filter, Use the cleaner in the kit until it is gone then when trhere is oil still left and no cleaner then you can use dish soap like I did

  • i love it! go drink a beer lol, class words!

  • How long did the filter to completely try after being submerged in water for 10 minutes?"

  • In direct sunlight in the summer about 15-20 minutes or so, If your in a hurry you can use a box fan to move air around the filter but do not use compressed air of any kind.

  • what if the check engine light stays on

  • lol, what a tutorial

  • wat kind of soap should i use??? and i have a yamaha bahee with to dual filters "K&N"

  • K&N has a spray on soap they recommend, but you can use a dish soap like Dawn or Joy. Either will get the job done.

  • k&n recomend you only soak your filter for a maximum of 5 mins

  • turn the water off and go drink a beer lol

  • The instructions also say to rinse from the outside in, as in the direction of air flow to allow contaminants to flow through the filter...rinsing backwards can destroy the filter...

  • lol outside in, think about it, you will force dirt back into the filter... rinsing backwards is the only way of removing the dirt from the outside of the filter!

  • the instructions say to do the outside first then after u allow it to dry if u notice spots that aren't as red as others spray the clean side.

  • use your engines gazz not soap and wather ?? its not good for the engine soap scusee it all up

  • You skipped the most important step, everything else is obvious!!

  • no he remembered the beer

  • What is that spray for?

  • its a oil bro.its a K&N oil

  • i dont use water at all 2 clean my flter i just blow it out with the air compressor, its much easier. i do the "go drink a beer" step tho :S

  • The instructions say not to use compressed air to clean. And not to use any type of heat to dry.

  • dont use the oil, it gets on your air flow sensor..

  • ya kinda have to use oil, its a wet filter, not a dry one, and if properly applied it wont get into anything, only oil the side where air is coming from, also, after oiling the filter be sure to wipe down any excess... i do this stuff for a living

  • it only gets on the AFS if you over oil it. Doing it properly you wont have any problems. Not using oil allows larger micron sized particles to pass through. Your motor not mine so I Dont give a Fuck, but dont mis inform people because you cant follow directions

  • Re-oiling section is a little vague, no vid. Only bit I was waiting for. Wasted 4 minutes 14 seconds of my life. Thanks bud!!

  • ditto!!

  • u wasted 5mins and 14 seconds of your life dude.lol

  • i got lost after the beer, one too many; need a video without the instruction "go drink a beer"

  • when u rinsed it the water was CLEAR with a K&N recharge kit (how you should! clean it)it should be black! then it turns whit and the oil makes it red! but the cold beer was nice!

  • K&N Themselvers state you shouldnt use any other cleaning products on the filter :), other than their own.

  • k&n would say that as they know people like u will believe em, all filter cleaning kits are the same jus that some aint a rip-off like k&n i use cheap stuff and i dnt av no problems

  • Bee honey traps dirt & bugs better than the manufacturers oil I think duhhhhhhhhhhhh, lol

  • i did not clean mine with soap!

i bought a k&n recharge service kit! that contains to two bottles, a cleaning spary bottle and an Oil bottle!

i used it once but different from this video, i was following the k&n instruction sheet!

  • wow u got lots of spare time

  • can i use motor oil? im to cheap to buy K&N oil

  • Uh... No... Motor oil is too heavy and and will defeat the purpose of the K&N filter also will void the 1,000,000 Mile warranty.

Do you really want to ruin a $50 or more filter over a $10 kit that will service the filter multiple times??

  • yeah true ill get the K&N oil. thanks for the info

  • Great video, very helpful.

  • what an idiot

  • do we have to spray it with filter oil?

  • Yes you do... The filter would not clean out as much dirt with out the K&N Oil.

  • very good

  • Thank you for the lesson!

  • in the step: Go drink a beer

may i repeat that few times before finishing?

  • Repeat as many as you like :)
