  • Question: If my PS3 has been tampered with before (I had the laser replaced), meaning the warranty sticker is removed, will Sony still exchange it for a slim?

  • IT'S ALIIIIIIIIIVE!! God bless u, man! I thought I was gonna have to start Mass Effect 2 all over again! As a follow up, I put a cooling fan behind the PS# the help it stay cool and hopefully it'll last me long enough to save up for a slim. Thanks again!

  • EASEUS Partition Master is free and easier.

  • can this work on a CFW 3.55 KMEAW??

  • how doy you save date and put in on a USB stick or hard drivee to put on your new PS3? do you have to put the same Use Name ?

  • when I try to type in fat32format :E in cmd

    it says:

" ' fat32format ' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file "

Can you tell me what I can do? I have a 250GB external drive.

  • Nice singlet. Fag.

  • How do I transfer copy protected content that was downloaded from psn to a new hard drive with the same console? I already tried backup utility and Ive tried manually back up and I finally restore to the new hard drive it tells I have to renew my license which is some bull cause I can't it won't lead me to rent the movie. Any ideas?

  • How to transfer copy protected content that was downloaded from psn to a new hard drive with the same console?

  • @seamonkey420 will alll my online accounts trophies and dlc be saved?

  • @feterfeter1 you will want to sync your trophies prior to removing harddrive. do that by going to Trophies > Sync to Server. your DLC can be redownoaded via XMB > PSN > Account Management > Download List

    hope that helps

  • ummm........ WHO LIKES MW2?

  • @seamonkey420 will my trophies be saved? cause my ps3 will not sign in to my ps3 profile and the support says i need to safety copy my stuff and restart the ps3, so will my trophies be left at the ps3 or do i have to do it all again?!?!?

  • @TheRajvir95 yup! :) just have to restore it on the same PS3 though. :)

  • @seamonkey420 i threw my old fat ps3 away i bought a ps3 slim but i kept the old hardrive would i get my saved games

  • why not pull it out, connect it to your pc and dd if=/dev/sdb | gzip | dd of=ps3image.iso.zip

this way you can store your image where ever you want and it's compressed, what you are doing is making just a backup of the files on it.

  • What is the name of that Backup Harddrive again...Thanxs

  • Can you use the external HDD as Game save space I ask because the last person to own my preowned PS3 destroyed the screws for the internal HDD Casing thus make replacing it with my spare HDD impossible (i don't want to wast plyers on it either) Any advise

  • Can u use a usb stick?

  • He has a sexy finger ^.^ that wuz so gay lol

  • Gay! I can't back up my stuff! :( It just stops right when the backing up begins! it always says backing up couldn't be done! D: Any help?

  • Does this back up all profiles on the ps3? Or do I have to back each profile up individually?

  • Thanks for the info.

  • where can u buyt the fat32 thing

  • what does ps3 format mean?

what does backup mean and how do you backup game date?

  • @jackie20ization if you dont know what back up means why are you watching this video?!

  • many thanks, been looking for a software that formats fat32 on windows 7 for time. finally shes getting backed up and just in time 2 i think the ps3 is on the way out lol cheers dude

  • I am on a Mac, can I format the hard drive in fat32 format with mac os x utility?

  • can someone give me a backup from version 3.41 or something like that!?!

  • What theme is that?

  • @iMULTIPLAYERi just my own wallpaper of minneapolis and the default theme icons :)

    i'm a wallpaper making fool :)

  • @seamonkey420 I have windows 7 and the default format option in "my computer" on my 8.40gb external hardrive was FAT32, so, no need for the program.

  • alright i am in need of some dire help!, my couple year old ps3 just died (due to the yellow light then constant red beep, which i think is an overheating problem) so if i take out my hard drive from the broken one and put it into my ps3 slim which already has a hard drive, will it delete anything on either hard drive?

  • Uhh.. It can back up because my hard disk is AES something so its locked. Can anyone help me with that?

  • ok my ps3 fat has finally messed up in 4 years ..i had online and i bought some movies on my account and now that i bought a slim i logged in and all my movies were gone :( can i transfer my old data (the hardrive) from ps3 fat to the ps3 slim system?

  • how come it wont detect my hdd on the ps3 it just says connect to storage media it also wont detect my usb

  • my ps3 got YLOD and im getting a new one so how do i get my saved games ans stuff from my old hard drive to my new ps3

  • @k54g same thing happened to me dude. i need help to get my data from my ylod ps3

  • can ps3 read copy games?

  • @axeljordan1 if you are trying to ask if the ps3 can read "fake" games, then no, its impossible, ps3 will never be able to read copyed games, it was already possible one time...but when sony knew about this, they created an actualization so no one could to that again...ps3 will only and ONLY read original games. the security on the ps3 is problably one of the best device's security in the world.

  • chill out,is ur uncle workin on sonys company or somethin cuz ur so serious about fake games, and i gotta tell u that im proud to have an xbox 360 cuz it can read copied games, but still ps3 has better games though, but anyway chill out,u didnt create ps3 to be so sensetive about it

  • @axeljordan1 LOL, no one that i know works on sony xD,also i dont care that much if ps3 can read or not copied games, i just prefer the originals over the copied ones =P

  • So my ps3 is on its last legs; I've gotten the ylod twice and I really want to back up my data before I go and get a new ps3. But I'm a little confused: could i just buy a new ps3 and replace the hard drive that comes with that ps3 w/ my current one? Could I even do that if I tried? I'd really like to know what you suggest.

  • i wanted to know what is the least amount of space that an external harddrive needed to be. all i want to back up is my game saves. thats it. no demos, no movies, nothing. only game saves. and its only like 10. oh and also wanted to know what else the system backs up

  • @darktooth54321 hmm. i'd say the same size as your original PS3 harddrive your backing up. So a 80GB should be just fine. This will backup ALL game saves, game data, photos, music, videos, demos, psn accounts on the ps3. trophies you will need to sync before replacing the harddrive. if you are just upgrading a harddrive, this is the way to go. if your getting a different PS3, use the TRANSFER utility to ensure all saves transfer.

  • Right Now I have a 4gb flashdrive and i'm trying to back up my utility but I keep getting an error. The only thing I want to back up Is my sign in info because I don't know my pass but I have it saved on. Someone plz help, I'm not smart when it comes to stuff like this

  • ok so i need a new ps3 because my current one has decided to stop reading discs whatsoever. now some of my games saves are copyright protected if i back up all of my files from my old ps3 to the new ps3 will the copyrighted data still transfer across to the new ps3?. can anyone help me out here please.

  • @MEGAUT3FAN BE SURE TO USE THE TRANSFER utility and NOT backing up to an external harddrive. The Transfer utility WILL MOVE ALL COPY-PROTECTED Games saves and data to the new ps3 (it also removes those items from the old ps3). I may do a quick FYI/Common Questions on a PS3 hdd upgrade video soon. :)

  • @seamonkey420 ok so i heard that if i save dead rising2 to my hard drive it will load faster i know it works because if seen it before but idk how to do it. so can you show me how?

  • hey can u transfer memory to a hardrive too anther one cuz i need memory

  • Hi, if there is data already on the hardrive will it be deleted once you format it to Fat32? Thanks

  • @BboyTide17 yes, it will be formatted once the ps3 is powered on. it will prompt before it does it.

  • I wanna do this so i can transfer all my files from slim into a fat ps3, SLIM PS3 SUCKS

OK I got a problem. I back up my Phat PS3 before buying my new PS3 Slim. I used my Ipod which had 40 GB of memory left and I backed up my ps3 onto that. Once I traded in my phat for my Slim, I hooked it up and restore my back up onto the Slim. Once that was finished, some of the games which were "locked save games" like Assassin's Creed II and UFC Undisputed wasn't save over. I heard that the back up saves ALL SAVED GAMES including the copy protected. What should I do?

  • I did everything the same as you, but when i plug the hard drive in the PS3 it does not show up. Even when i go to backup. Why won't it show up?

  • @batterbee2000 did you format in FAT32? that is the main thing about any external harddrive or flash drive you connect to your ps3. it can't read NTFS.

  • @seamonkey420 Yea I formatted it to fat32 with CompuApps SwissKnife V3.

  • @seamonkey420 I just found out why it was not working. I have a power a media expansion bar, and I guess you have to plug in directly with out the expansion bar for the hard drive to work.

  • @batterbee2000 excellent! good to hear, voted up :)

  • Hey, Mine is formatted correctly, but every time I try and back it up an error comes up entitling "the back up operation could not be completed 8001002A". Know anyway to fix this?

  • Great video dude, I was looking for a way to backup my ps3 data for a couple of hours XD Thanks for this.

  • does the hard drive your using for the back up have to be in fat32 format

  • @chinkcochen it does or else the ps3 won't see the harddrive. at the moment, it does not read NTFS which is what most larger hdds come formatted in unless they are mac and pc ready (ie formatted in Fat32).

you can get a few tools to format drives larger than 40gb in FAT32. i use fat32formatter

  • i heard tht once u log in on your new ps3 the trophies show up as 0% until you play the game again. is this true because i rented a lot of games.

  • @A98743 i believe you can now force a sync from the XMB > Game > Trophies. i have not redone my ps3 for a while now but if i get a slim again soon i'll let you know :)

  • @A98743 I'm pretty sure that your trophies are saved to your psn account, not your ps3. I know this cause I always use my psn account on my friend's ps3.

  • @A98743 i just got another ps3 slim this week and my trophies initially all showed up but once i started playing a game, it did not see them. however, once i quit the game and then resync'd the trophies; they reappeared again and registered w/my transferred game saves too.

so still a bit wonky.. :P

  • My Ps3 has died 3 days ago ( 3 red lights problem ) . I have bought a new ps3 slim and I would like to know how can I transfer all my profile ( network profile and saved game data ) from my old ps3 to my new ps3.

**note: My old ps3 cant even be turned on . It's totally dead .

    Thanks

  • @fmcaloi89 i doubt you can if you can't boot the ps3 at all. the copy protection is specific to your ps3 and without it, any other ps3 will ask that your old ps3's harddrive to be formatted. you may be SOL :(

  • will this get deleted accounts back?

  • @Leema29 such as deleted psn accounts? psn accounts can't be deleted directly by formatting a harddrive.

you can login to and activate up to 5 different ps3s on one account. the first ps3 will be considered the main ps3 and in turn be activated for both games and video. the remaining 4 can only be activated for games. so you can redownload any dlc to those activated ps3s. so w/my 2 ps3s, i can use all of my dlc including rockband songs, unlock key, madden online, flower, etc on both. :)

  • This is a serious question, someone please answer. First of all, what does back up do and when you recover, does it restore everything as it did when you backed up the files? Such as users, games saves, songs, videos, pictures? Please answer.

  • @Forggeter here it goes. backup is that it is, it backs up all of your data and games saves including those nasty copy-protected ones. from my experience thus far (3 ps3s and several recoveries/backups), it seems to be able to backup all data just fine.

I used the ps3 transfer method to get my ps3 phats data to my 1st slim and it moved all data, NOTE MOVED and not copied it all to the slim so my phat was blank. the backup to ext hdd will leave your data on the backed up one so the best way

  • can you connect a pc to the ps3? also, how did you get 400 gb usb drive?

  • @Forggeter its an external hard drive

  • @VideoGameMan1101 What does that have to do with my question?

  • hey my hard drive doesn't show on the ps3..they tell me: connecte the storage media at the save destination!!!

  • can someone answer this question please? How much memory do you need to back up your files onto an external harddrive. Im using a usb which is 2 gb

  • @Forggeter depends on how much data you have on your PS3. most likely a 16gb drive would be fine if you only have a few demos and no movies/music/photos

  • wait so most hdd come as fat 32?

  • @BartandBucky depends. if they say they are mac compatible, yes it is FAT32 since mac cannot read NTFS. otherwise, you can find a few utilities that let you format a larger drive (over 60gb) to FAT32 since you can't do it within windows (only allows NTFS). hope that helps!

  • u kno how u bak up utility on the ps3, are the files that u backed up on hte ps3 hard drive still there?? or does it all go in the external hard drive???

  • @yellowbums yes, the backup is just a backup. however if you do a Transfer to another PS3 via a network cable, it will move copy protected game saves to the new ps3.

  • @seamonkey420 hey is it ok not to b up files before changing the HDD i dont have much files just some games but 120gb ps3 slim is not enought for me ;/ i wanna buy the 500gb and does all the HDD go for ps3 u know those pc hdd's can they support ps3 ? or there are special HDD for ps3?

  • is there a way to do this for mac

  • thank you I have a wd 500gig, hd and have been trying to do this for awhile didn't know it had to be formatted to fat 32

  • Hi, my ps3 broke 2 days ago, so i will get a new one, how should i do ?? pls answer.

  • If you put new hardware, and what whould happend? Losing your Save Deta? and Tropies and movies and Demos?

  • Hey nice vid :D

I got a 500GB WD Passport for Mac, it's formatted as FAT32 and yet the PS3 wont recognise it

    HELP

  • hey can you help with my problem? i got ylod on the old fat ps3 and i bought the slim of my friend today, i want the old data on the new one but i can't put it straight in becuase it delets it! i don't know how to put it on the pc or format it :S

  • Couldn't you find a fat32 utility with a GUI instead of a command prompt?

  • I dont know how to copy my trophies i did the sync but it didnt seem to do anything?

  • I want to make a new online ID and play my games on. For example MW2 i want to be the same prestige etc but when i copy the data it says im level 1?

Please could somebody help me get my trophies and everything over to the SAME ps3 just a different account

  • You can't actually transfer trophies and online profiles and stuff sorry

  • do you lose trophies when u recover you r online id

  • nope

  • Where can I get a new hdd for my ps3

  • Can you please reply! I'm looking to upgrade my 60 gb Playstation 3 to 500 gb. But, I have about 10 PSN games and some demos and what not so I was wondering when you back this up will it also store those on there? This is really frustrating if I have to re-download everything.

  • @gretzkyv99 By an external harddrive back it up, put your new harddrive in plug in the external harddrive and your done?

  • i just did the new way in the 3.15 update connecting 2 ps3s with a ethernet cable

  • I've done Formating to FAT32 and Backup and Copy to new 500GB, but .. can I can't put the new 500GB in replace of the old 120GB, PS3 is asking me to Format the HD as soon as I Turn On with the new HD. Any suggestion or Tutorial..?

  • wassup..

that is normal, you can do a quick format on it and then once you get to the XMB, just do a restore :)

  • hey i cant seem to get the programe to work can you help with this ? when i run the programe it comes up for a split second and goes off btw i am using vista which SUCKS !!!! could you help me get it working ? have i installed it wrong have i not extracted it correctly can you send me the download link for the software cause my one dosent seen to work yours does weird !

  • same for me, but i got Windows7

  • do the protected ones as killzone 2 saves work?

  • hey seamonkey great vid! :D

if i backup & restore all the datas from my old ps3 (fat, lol) to my new ps3 slim, does it copy my psn games too ?

    please reply. =)

  • yes, all games should be backed up. the activation part is what you need to do afterwards (activate your ps3). however, if you have problems, you can go and redownload the games via your PSN account

but hopefully all data should be restored once you restore and should be playable after you activate the new ps3

  • does the trophyies get saved on to the hdd once you have snyced with the server?

  • When I do the Hardrive Backup from the PS3 (fat xD) to the Slim, having sync all trophies before, will I still be able to play a game and still get new "you have unlocked trophy" messeges?

  • sei lá!!

  • now when you back up the data from the old ps3 you can then put that data on the new ps3?

  • yes, i believe so. i have not done this myself since i have not yet gotten a PS3 slim yet.

i believe you may have to activate your new ps3 slim after you restore the backup. via Network > Account Management.

but your saves should transfer over by doing the full backup w/the utility. some saves can't be copied to sd (protected) and this is only way to back them up. hope that helps! :)

  • thank you seamonkey

  • so i would buy an external hdd and backup my ps3 and then when i buy my ps3 slim i just hit restore and when its done i connect it to my psn account right? also if i sync my trophies with the server would i just go back to trophies and sync it with the server on the ps3 and all my trophies would be there?

  • @blackmoney21 Yes. That is the purpose of the backup. Once you restore your backup, you will need to go into XMB > Network > Account Management > Activate PS3/PSP and activate the new ps3 for games and video.

Also be sure to deactivate the old ps3 before you sell or return it so it frees up the activation license and returns it back (you can activate up to 5 ps3s under one psn account )

  • Thanks for the information. I have a PS3 & PS3 Slim. I have lots of movies, music and pictures and i need to back them up.

  • idont understand wat it's gonna do 2 the slim

so can u play ps2 games on it now ??

  • nope, just lets you backup the harddrive and all of the data so you can then put in a bigger harddrive and in turn have more movies, games, demos, music, photos, etc. :)

does not add BC if you never had it before. BC is only available on the 20gb, 60gb launch ps3s and also a few of the 80gbs (software emulation on these ones).

  • Somebody told me the PS3 slim saves aoutimatically.

  • ??

it does not back up the actual gamesaves or the data on your harddrive. it will try to sync your trophies up to the server when you view them (same w/the ps3 phat).

there is no cloud backup service for the ps3; you would still need an ext harddrive or memory card to backup to.

  • What do mean copy the fat32format.exe into your C:/ Folder?, (read that from your website) do you mean download it from somewhere else.

  • I have a My Book F:

    Do I have to type fat32format F:)?

  • yup!

say your external drive is the F: (like yours)

    type: fat32format F:

saving the fat32format.exe into the C:\Windows lets you just type the command in command prompt from any directory (extra info for those curious)

  • Thanks for the fat32format tip! Backing up HDD now.

  • i backed up my ps3 data, but i have downloaded games from the ps store that i got from a friend (his account on psn), if i get a new hard drive will i still have my games on my ps3 after restore??

  • i plan i upgrading my 40Gb PS. When i restore my HD will everything still be there? cuz i have some downloaded games that weren't bought by me, so i won't be able to redownload them,

    Thnx

  • I suggest you just copy the game saves of the games that you really like, about your downloads,PSN related data are all saved on the PSN's server. The Trophies, you have to sync it with the server.

  • it only work with the same ps3

  • i think you can use your backup on a different PS3, however you prob need to sign into the PSN w/your PSN id used on old ps3 and then go to Account Management and Activate PS3.

Any DRM locking should be good then, or one would think. i have not gotten a ps3 slim yet but once i do i will try this and post a vid/comments. :)

  • When formatting the external to FAT32, does it need to be a logical or primary drive?

  • i would make it a primary drive to be sure. :)

you shouldn't have to change the partitioning when formatting but if you do, make the partition a primary.

  • So after this you wont need to reinstall your games or re update them?

  • just restore your backup and the data should be there :)

  • this will show me how to copy all my data on a new hard drive? Because i dont want to get a slim if i have to delete everything........

  • yup, makes a full backup that includes game saves and esp those notorious protected games saves (ie some ea games).

trophies you have to sync up via the Trophy menu on the PS3 before making this backup. once you sync them up to the server, they are saved to your PSN ID.
