god he reminds me of my boyfriend...he is from europe (met him in NYC), and he is short, has almost the same face especially the mouth, and the EXACT same voice. when i hear him on my voicemail you could swear it was lorre himself loooooool am i lucky or what:)

They don't make em like Peter Lorre anymore do they? Huston was wise to cast him in this... though I believe it was to capitalize on his role in M, a film that heavily influenced the way this movie was made.
The line that is barely on this except in the beginning, "It's a fake" sounds dubbed.
It is a man's voice - but it does not sound like Lorre's or Greenstreet's.
I have always supposed that they dubbed it in to make it clear to the audience what had happened. I read an interview with John Huston, the director, but he didn't mention anything about it.

Up to this point in the movie, I was totally straight-faced. And then out of the blue... peter: "You and your stupid attempt to buy it!" me: (chuckle) peter: "You - you imbecile!" me: Ha! peter: "You bloated idiot!" me: Hahahaha! peter: "You stupid fat-head, you - " me: HAHAHAHAHA!!! peter: "(sobbing like a 1st grader)" me: ROFLOL!!!!
