I spent almost 2-1/2 years in the Boston Church of Christ, trying to "pray the gay away." Part of being a memmber of that church (back in its mind-control cult days) was submitting to my "discipler" and having to confess my most private of sins and sinful thoughts. And as with every other gay man adopting the "ex-gay lifestyle," it didn't work for me.
Were you there? I was, and no one was passing out anything about Jesus. You are a bystander trying to pretend you know what happened because you watched a video. Get a life, learn how to articulate yourself, and stop being a troll.
these are prominent gay leaders who were also toting debatable literature that any christian could debunk, weather you think the bible is fact or fiction, their claims over a character in the bible. Yes oh yes they were distributing the usually literature a flyer that claims jesus was gay. however if anyone wishes to debate this with me. I can tell you my interpretation of the verses that were used to make this ridiculous claim about my lord and savior.
Amen to this! Courage (former Boston member) Has pretty much ruined my relationship with my family. We're now working on fixing it. Also courage was a "Secrete society for hooking up" under the guise of a "fall." I still face regrets from those days. Thanks for posting this.
So the founding two people ran off- what is there to address? It happens! I've already said I think Exodus is taking the wrong approach as well, but you along with your lack of compassion for the people actually attending the meetings or conferences is sickening.
Look, I don't see how continuing this exchange with you is going to be productive because it seems to me you are too ready to deny important facts and their pertinence. Exodus can't be reasoned with; their negative impact on GLBT people's lives are a conscious deliborate effort. This is why I am not compassionate, they know what they are doing.
I gave you your say, it's time to move along now.
"They broke their permit the police didn't even fine them or make them go back to the park. I'm glad to hear that there will be a federal lawsuits filed."
How do you "break" a permit?
People marched over to another public area and left in an orderly fashion when asked the first time.
see video titled homosexual activists terrorize Boston church. These people broke their permit and marched into the cemetary near the church shouting through a bull horn and put it up against the window and let it make squeaking noises. They broke their permit the police didn't even fine them or make them go back to the park. I'm glad to hear that there will be a federal lawsuits filed.
I don't know weather or not to believe a word he's said, assume that some of these accusations are lies, or that everything he say's isn't true because they were also passing out the classic Jesus was gay pamphlets.
Actually it was no one that we know who passed out any such pamphlets, and after close inspection it looks like the work of MassResistance in my opinion.
As for the actual protests, they all seem to be more concerned with attacking Exodus than actually reaching out to the people attending the conference. If you guys really knew what went on inside the meetings you'd know that hearing chants yelled through bullhorns only reinforces what those trying to change already feel about the gay community. Did you really think your protest was going to make those people trying to "change" run out to join your side? Neither side is taking the right approach.
Pardon me but do you have any clue what you are talking about? Kids are killing themselves because of programs like these, and thinking like this perpetuates the discrimination we face today. The people who are running these ministries are all gay, they just lie to the public and steal as much money as they can while they harm others. The only thing you can do with such an organization is shut it down. This organization is evil, wake up!
Your claims are incorrect. And you didn't address anything I said, just went on the usual rant which is what most protests like your's usually do. What you as well as the non gay affirming church ought to be doing is figuring out ways to build bridges between each other. You couldn't even acknowledge anything else in my posts...how ironic.
Okay have you ever been involved with any Exodus affiliated programs? And I'd love to see a citation for your quote "The people who are running these ministries are all gay, they just lie to the public and steal as much money as they can..." Seriously? What a horrific generalization. You should see the movie Save Me.
OK, but I'll expect the same in return. No, I have never been involved in Exodus, nor do I have to have been in order to know what they are up to which is what I expect is the point of you asking.
Your other question (Seriously?) is best answered in Wayne Besen's book Anything But Straight.
Now, What of you? Are you an ex-gay or affiliated with Exodus? Me thinks thou dost protest too much. ;)
No I'm not an "ex-gay." I was however involved in some of their programs and "ministries" for quite a while and decided to stop attending (that was my right). Most of the people I met were incredibly nice and loving and no I was not brainwashed. I never had money "stolen" from me as you claim and if anything had things given to me. It would, in all sincerity, due you well to hear other sides than just Besen's. My concern is bridging gaps, not making opposing sides more infuriated at each other.
Let me ask in follow up what made you leave? It was important to you to enter, so why the exit?
I never said people weren't "nice", but they are perpetuating discrimination, and an awful lot of them are in fact still gay and lying to the public. Proof of this is all over YouTube if you want me to start citing it for you. When they accept contributions under false pretenses, isn't that akin to stealing?
The very founders of Exodus ran off with each other after leaving their wives.
I really don't feel the need to go into my own personal stories right now. The main reason why I commented on this video was to express the fact that I did not think these protests were the right approach, unless they were aiming for an even deeper wedge. The people attending these meetings are often times already trying to sort tender parts of their lives out. You say the ex gay programs are traumatizing but looking out and seeing people chanting against you isn't that comforting either.
I noticed that no matter how much proof I give you that this entire program is a farce you try not to address that; how interesting. Your silence speaks for you as much as your words.
Ok well you really haven't given me proof. Oh sure you've taken examples from the past such as pictures and have exploited them, but all you've really given me is one person's outlook on the organization. As someone who has been involved with Exodus, I'm in a much better place to know what it's like than you are. I don't know what your religious affiliation is, but as for Christianity, the divide over sexuality needs way more than just a small group of protestors defacing humans to bring unity.
The organizations two founding members left their wives and ran away together. What part of this escapes you? What more proof do you need that this group is a farce? Please cite what you want to see and I will gladly offer it, there's that much proof!
As far as assuming you know more than I on this subject, how typical of the radical right to have such hubris. What do you know about me? I'll bet you know next to nothing, and that's what makes me laugh at your arrogance.
Okay first of all don't pull the "radical right card" on me. Are gay republicans radical as well? It's really too bad you're willing to generalize EVERYONE off of a few people. You have never been involved with any Exodus programs, I have, and yet you would tell me who knows more? Please. I'm not going to continue with you because it's instances like these that are showing me you're too closed minded to hear another side. Laugh all you want. If anything it'll just show your lack of compassion.
While there were some things about this protest I could appreciate, it as well is the totally wrong approach. The part where Besen listed the personal details of former "ex-gay" leaders showed no compassion at all. I mean really, God only knows the inner chaos those men were probably going through, and to stand around and laugh about it is horrendous and shows no love at all, even in the midst of their contradictions.
That graveyard is the resting place of rabble rousing icons such as Paul Revere and other notable leaders of liberty. We acted in their spirit and we mindful not to disturb the graves by using only the path around them.
I'm sure if we were not in the graveyard you would have still said similar things because it seems you don't understand our rightful indignation. Discrimination against GLBT people and the social ill it causes is perpetuated by groups like Exodus International.

I'll be very interested in seeing what lawsuits people can dream up where no laws were broken. don't worry, we have lawyers too! ;)

There is no fence mending with some people, especially those who already know what they are doing is wrong and are doing so deliberately.
