For my money the greatest non-operatic female voice of the 20th century although Ella fans would argue (and Bessy Smith and Bilie Holiday fans). I make regular pilgrimages to Piaf venues in Paris - try the restaurant Chez Louisette in the middle of the antiques market. Piaf 16 hrs a day with a little live band and a great 'scat' singer as well as a bevy of 'Piaftas'.

SHE WAS GREAT, A VOICE IN A MILLION THAT SOUNDED SO FULL OF EMOTION, SHE REALLY LIVED LIFE TO THE LIMIT AND HER CHILDHOOD WE ALL KNOW ABOUT. UNLIKE THESE TV SHOWS THAT TURN OUT 5 MINUTE WONDERS BY THE DOZEN, HER EARLY YEARS IN THE PARIS STREETS GAVE HER "SUBSTANCE" AS A WOMAN AND A VOICE.
