@MrShinikaru higurashi no naku koro ni, higurashi NNKN kai, higurashi NNKN rei, umineko NNKN which is a different show but higurashi rei has some umineko references and vise versa. there are also games which are VNs and the anime and manga are based off of them.

This isn't the official anime opening.

This is not the art style of the anime. It's the art style of the visual novels (the games).

The anime is made by the studio that made Higurashi 1st season, and the animation is better than the one in the video.

Hmm, I wonder too.. when I first saw Rei in Akiba (I think it was just days before the launch), I thought it was some kind of a bonus pack, because the description seems to depict some funny chapters that doesn't affect the main storyline. Unless Rika's chapter is important enough...

Otherwise, there are no official numberings, so you can count anyway you want.

Oh, it seems they animated Rei on DVD. I might consider watching someday...

I saw the first arc of the Rei anime! =D It was funny (a shitload of fanservice, which is not my thing, but whatever) but sadly I am ever so un-fluent (is that the prper way to say that? XD) and so without subs I didn't understand anything...O.o But eventually someone will fansub it! =D

On an unrelated note...I HATE FLOORS! D8 (I am sorry...Higurashi Parody Fandub moment...^-^;)

hey ive been watching higurashi for a while end I dont think that umineko is actually part of the series but they are supposed to tie together -they do in the manga at least...

@Kazume10 Actually there is a novel for it, the OVAs are based on the Rei visual novel. It definatly was before Umineko though... Umineko came out in 2007 and I think Rei came out in 2005 or 2006.

Umineko in a way is a sequel to higurashi, but there are only few things that they have in common with each other. and an anime version of Umineko is coming this year probably in fall.

as far as i know Umineko won't be Aired until a while after the conclusion of Higurashi no naku koroni Rei (the OVA)they are working on it currently though
