Comet Hale-Bopp (C/1995 O1)

Hale-Bopp was thought to be a transport to a different dimension by the Heavens Gate cult. Heck, were they wrong.

I dont ever remember seeing Halleys comet even though I was around, I recall 2 comets between 95-96 though being in the night sky very visible. Hale-Bopp was a beautiful comet like Halleys was, their was also Hyakatake which was a fuzz ball, it was not as spectacular because it never had a tail.

i remember being at mammoth mountain seeing it in broad day light with the naked eye..of course i was like 10000 feet up..i was like 6 or 7 years old..cool stuff

Photos don't do it justice. The blue tail could easily be seen with a pair of binoculars. If I remember correctly, we could see it with the naked eye too. Twin tails. I feel privileged to have seen this once in a lifetime event.

humm i remember a comet that had a much longer tail,

when i was a teen, back in the 199??? cant remember what year.

could it be that it look difrent from iceland ? compared too see it in the middel or south on the planet. ?? i remember it staying there for days if not few weeks.

I remember seeing this when I was 3 years old, stepping out on the back porch and just watching it for hours....I'm glad I was my dad was a astronomy buff and I hope I live long enough to see halleys comet return.

@KMarkFox a plenty of comets you'll see coming before Halley returns, I saw it in 1986 and it was the WORST view so far of it. A big deal of advantages were neede to take in that time, a good telescope, an exhausting timing work, a clear night and much, much patience. My grandmother saw it in 1910, it was visible after 02:00 early morning at naked eye and she told me it looked more like a Kite made of light.. This Hale-Bope was seen clearly as in this video just before sunset.

I saw this comet AND Hyakutake when I was 12-13. Imagine if their uniqueness had been swapped, and Hale Bopp came as close as the moon! Move over Daylight Comet of 1910! And to think some stupid 'contactee' called Nancy Lieder claimed that this beauty of nature DID NOT EXIST!

I dont remember if this was the comet I saw, because right after this one was the hyakutake comet. I was a kid back then, but I remember my family coming outside the house one night in Ukraine, to look up at the sky...and I saw an amazing sight, this long tail against a backdrop of stars.

There was a huge Mothership Ufo ship next to Hale Boop Comet. Check it out on google. I been seeing how we were really lucky not just in 1997 but also another one that almost hit us on 2002 and 2004. There is going to be another one getting really really close on 2036.

i remember driving all night up to Maine and this thing followed me the whole way. It kept me company for hundreds of miles.

it comes every 74-75 years it was last here in 1986 and it will be visable in 2061 making me 66-67 so if i live that long i should be able to see it.
