Now I am NOT criticizing him, but at 2:31 he plays a different note than what my part says (he plays a C instead of a B). Does he have a different edition or is it a wrong note?
There are actually many different versions of this concerto. Reinecke actually never formally transcribed this piece. That's why it's rarely performed, because each version is slightly different. Of course there is a chance that he just played a wrong note!!! Perfectly seamless playing though, his interpretation is amazing :)
We discovered what was wrong. My teacher's Breitkopf & Hartel copy came with two versions of the flute part: A and ESt. The ESt is the "correct" version. I like it that it's so rare. That means no one else will be performing it (in competitions and such). :D So yay, Galway didn't play a wrong note. And yeah, it's seamless. I can only dream to play it as well as he. XD
ahh... i see... i've not seen the autograph of the score before, but its pretty much accepted that the piano reduction of the first edition is the performance choice.
@fairyrose444 that happens to mercadante concerto too if you notice carefully , there are two different versions. Mine has C but you can also find it with B.

Breitkopf & Hartel has recently published a new edition of this concert thanks the help of german flutist Henrik Wiese.

Nobody plays it because this is what it sounds like!
What a truly disjointed, awful piece of music. I'm playing this with my school orchestra and I wanted to hear it played well because I thought we were killing it.
Such a beautiful concerto! Learning it atm for an audition and recital

I'm no flautist, but I've just got to say this: There couldn't be a more perfect Romantic-style concerto for James Galway's style and sound!
(I'm afraid I can't and wouldn't want to join in the extremely technical discussions I see here, sorry.)

my edition Breitkopf & Hartel is a C... its correct to me...

anyway, that part definitely is a C, cos that is an a minor arpeggio. its would sound wierd if it went E A B A G E G... its surely E A C A G E G

Okay, either my edition had a typo or something. It's really weird, cuz that's the same publisher and all... Hmm... I'll ask my teacher tomorrow. ^_^

OMG ... I've been LOOKING FOR THIS in the US for 11 years now!! Thanks a lot!
BTW, I'm not a flutist, but I heard that the original score needs a lot of corrections, that's why nobody seems to play this concerto. Is that right?

Maybe I'm weird, but this sounds sounds like a wooden flute, at least at times...

It's golden actually. Galway has over ten flutes, but this gold one he's playing on in the clip is his favourite :)
