Yea war driving, packet sniffers, blue snarfing better have a good IDS in place and turn off your beaconing on the router! and man in the middle attacks most hotels WiFi is open so don't trust them
Wow use tor or hotspot come on people. But yes airports are a great and other places place as. I still prefer hotels a lot more comparable. But either way it will never stop happening.
A wifi is like a campfire. 1. A guy with protected wifi is basically saying: Oooh this is my campfire, i made it so nobody else shall sit around it (even though there are plenty of space)
2. A guy with unprotected is saying: Hey everybody come and join me here at my campfire, I know u would welcome me too if u had one:)

If it is unecrypted you should run all the activity over SSL tunnels or something to encrypt the data on transfer. really easy to do

Windows sucks. In order to make a program start itself, I think the only way is to gain root access, at least with the rc.d scripts.
However, they can still read all you do and browse, since the info goes through them. It's a good method to steal identities, seriously.

Think of it this way:
A wifi is like a campfire. 1. A guy with protected wifi is basically saying: Oooh this is my campfire, i made it so nobody else shall sit around it (even though there are plenty of space)
2. A guy with unprotected is saying: Hey everybody come and join me here at my campfire, I know u would welcome me too if u had one:)

Either way, someone still is paying for it. But with situation 2, one pays while everyone else leeches. That's the negative.
