Hah. It's pretty funny returning to a video and seeing a comment you made 2 years ago at the top. Since then I've watched the entire series about 2-3 more times. I think the theme for season 5 is perfectly encapsulated in the quote from episode 9: "Deserve got nuthin' to do with it."

I hear some people who are disappointed with season 5. I thought it was amazing. Even if my least favorite season, in a batch of 5 perfect seasons of television, even the "weak" spot aint weak. Just such a great season of a great series.

I think season 5 summed up the theme of the whole series pretty well. The system isn't meant to be perfect, or even to be right ... it's just meant to continue. Status quo and bureaucracy will win over ethics and social responsibility, 90% of the time. Sad, but true. The most honest show on TV, without a doubt.
