  • Zinnia, I'm kinda in love with your brain right now

  • No way I'm giving my real name so people who don't like my videos..or like them a little to much 8 P ,can track me down. Started this channel today & went to open a Google+ to go with it to help promote it, that was before I read their policy. Not only did they want it on + also said it would put it on all G accounts & apps don't know if that includes YouTube, doesn't matter I +1 a video my name is associated with my YouTube name. Just a hop skip & a jump to my violated corpse from there 8 P

  • I thought you're a boy!!!!!!!!! O.O

  • @Cleric775 He is.

  • point well made

  • Zuckerberg is obviously an idiot.

  • How you get so smart, Zinnia?

  • anyone else think the audio doesn't quite match the video?

  • very good. I agree.

  • Anonymity helps me be free to be myself.

  • Young man, I hope you can find some help.

  • she's gone now!

  • It is a fine line that is being cut here ZJ. Anonymity is a good and/or evil so chosen by its user. Unfortunately, with the net, most anonymity is being used for the evil, to hide the harm that those evil anonymous users want to cause. Eradicate anonymity? No, rather we who oppose cyber evils need to do a better job at making them, "The Chaos Net" not exist in our lives any more than they already are. But with that said, do most people care? In my estimation not very much.

  • (cont) People can try and destroy the house that I have built, but even if they steal it, or destroy it, I will still fall asleep on some solid ground. I have no need to attack the anonymous evil net users the way I have been attacked, because once I do I am now one of them. See the destroyers as a means to climb higher, let them keep shooting, remember you aren't running, you seek a purpose, but they have a purpose to and they have chosen for it to be to attack not live.

  • (cont 2) And I know the more I speak my mind the more I will be attacked, so be it. In this world today, if you speak out, a stranger, in the shadows of likes has never been seen in any age til now, has an arrow on you. I know exactly what world I am living in. Let them be cowards, (and some like to call it superior intelligence) but I for one can do without attacking others out of the shadows from a malice, vengeful place. Anyone can steal my identity but I still know who I am!

  • Encore!

  • @1:19 its free speech in its entirety. its an outlet 4 me, as so much of my life i must bite my tongue, lest i burn bridges, make friends not want 2 talk 2 me about something, or some other consequence. anonymity of the net has allowed me 2 meet a ton of awesome friends i otherwise never would hav :)

  • ooo dark and spot on I like it :)

  • Randy Zuckerberg wants internet anonymity to go away. Uh huh. And I'll bet Disneyland would like to make the park guests responsible for keeping the rides in good working order, but that's not going to happen either.

That fuckstick makes a billion dollars providing a public space and then wants to fuck with people to cut his own liability for what goes on there. He might just have to get over that if he wants to keep the checks coming in.

  • I'm younger than you Zinnia, but I wanna be like you when I grow up. I love your rational, argued stances. Like Richard Dawkins says of Christopher Hitchens, "I'd rather hate to be on the other side of him" (paraphrase). Keep it honey!!

  • wtf is evry 1 talking gay langae ?

  • I can't listen to what you're saying, I'm really confused....

  • Don't forget the NSA they can find out who you are anyway no matter what their screen name is,anonymity is a false security blanket if people want to find out who someone is it is as easy as making a complaint to law enforcement..

  • Interesting points made in this video. Given that there has been recent legal issues for websites with anonymous users spreading hate speech, I could foresee some form of identification of users who are encouraging or organizing violence and harassment on facebook, Youtube and any other web browsers/sites that are collecting personal data. I don't think it is necessary for the sites to release peoples identities to the general public. It's a matter for law enforcers not us.

  • fuck you randi, anonymous will never die!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ALL HAIL ZJ!

  • Brilliant. Truth. Substance. Inspiring.

  • You stay remarkably in the same place during the video, such that I can hardly tell when you cut.

Anyway. Yeah... I fully agree. Anonymity has its problems... so not everything should be anonymous. But it's downright necessary to have in some form.

  • ZJ, I fully agree. In fact, I'd perhaps go even a step further and say that not only do people not care whether or not their identity is disclosed when making certain remarks.... Often times they even take pride in it. From offensive tweets to absurd youtube videos, they fully identify with their ideology - presenting themselves as 'hero's'. As people who are 'brave' enough to voice 'what everyone is thinking, but no one dares say'. Anonymity today is not a prerequisite for anserine behavior.

  • Do two things for me please, blink...and develop facial musclues. Actually you could take off the lip stick and cut your hair while you are at it.

  • I’m the same on the internet as I am off the internet.

  • Perhaps Zuckerberg would like to eliminate the "secret ballot" so we can all know how everyone votes... (sarcasm)

  • My thoughts on this exactly. People who don't like anonymity don't like honest opinions.

And Zinna gets attacked by anonymous jackasses all time. So one might think out of all people she wouldn't support it. But obviously she's smarter than that.

You don't want to cut the tail off a rattlesnake or else you won't know when you're about to be bit.

  • is he/she a robot?

  • YOU ARE BRILLIANT AND HILARIOUS!

  • WHAT ARE YOU

    BEYOND ANDROGYNY

  • Your Just So Awesome.

  • Hmmm, oh! I know! Let's make kids personal information available to peadophiles on the internet!! Yeah!!

  • "... how horrible the human race truly is." I'm hopeful (maybe naively) that this is hyperbole. If not, maybe the analogy is complete, and you have become the abyss? One issue with anonymity is that it allows a tiny minority with high motivation to appear to have much greater support than is really the case. The proportion of dickheads here or in the comments of blogs is in no way a realistic sampling of the general population. [Maybe not 100% due to anon. or sock-puppetting, but still..]

  • It would help to define the term 'horrible'. The most relevant remark to this video I could make about humanity in general is that all people are not of the same mind. However we get new ideas to contemplate is a boon to us. It seems vain to claim exclusive ownership of ideas. Anonymity is a way to give ideas away freely.

  • ZJ ? are you deleting that vid ? please see my channel for explanation.

sorry if you dont like it.

  • well seeing as so many people online spit and yell at eachother with racism and stereotypes (like in some of ZJs videos) i can see why people wouldnt want antinomy. but also there are other good reasons for the other debate

  • your ugly

  • Sorry to comment off-topic, but I just caught the Alex S. Glitch remix of the MLP theme from your favorited videos, and I liked it a LOT! I'm not a big MLP fan, but that was a wonderful remix, thank you for sharing!

  • I've left thousands of comments all over since 2002, and I've picked up a few stalkers. Their goal isn't to discuss anything I've written but simply to shut me up. For an example of that - including an example of me finding out one of the perps - see this (involving a very popular blogger):

    24ahead . com/n/9219

The issue isn't so much anonymity, it's those who hide behind anonymity to smear and harass.

  • I have disagreed with some peoples religious views and I am sure that if they could identify me I would be under physical threat.

  • I respect your videos and some of your opinions, but you're lying to yourself if you can't see the fact that you're putting yourself up on this high horse that is completely unwarranted. You know your massive amount of haters are going to hate on every video, yet If you told me that reading their "ignorant" trash talk doesn't brighten your day, you would be lying to me. You get off on their hate as much as they get off on laughing at your videos. How long do you think you'll be a star online?

  • I thought there was a man reading then I saw a woman in the next few seconds. Your voice is quite baritone Zinnia.

  • @Helghast: more of an alto.

  • I know about SATB; I'm T2. ZJ's a tenor, like me, only more like a T1.

  • zj , you really sound a little like that voice in "StarCraft 2 - Wraith Quotes " video. but ... meh... why not? go on.

  • I don't even need to turn the audio on, just looking at your face makes me laugh. nice adam's apple. DRAGQUEENFAIL!

  • Makeup is for everyone, and anyone who can grow hair can grow it long.

  • @marasu66 nah bro, you gay. I have long hair but I'm not about to put on lipstick and dress like a dragfag

  • If any of you do decide to wear makeup, learn how to apply it first so you don't look wind up looking like a child's fingerpainting.

  • That's OK. Not everyone is courageous enough to take on that awesome challenge.

  • @marasu66 self fail, I don't need to say anything, have a nice day sir.

  • Well said.

  • You are a light, well done. I like anonymity, and I prefer not to troll. But, extreme views and dogma can limit my expression of my views by not wanting to be harassed. Social pressure can, also be a fascism that limits free speech of people seeking honest discussion and expression . With anonymity I can visit social groups that don't agree with me, just like anyone. Truth without suppression is reason being made reasonable.

  • you are beautiful

  • Haha this guy is hilarious!

  • are you a boy or girl?

  • You ask that as if it matters. There are about 320 videos attributed to ZJemptv. Sort them from oldest to newest, and figure it out for yourself.

  • @shackupyourstruly I don't want to/have time to watch all of his/her videos.

  • Start with a few.

  • Neither has any bearing on what ZJ actually says.

  • lol traps

  • Exposition matters, not birthday suits.

  • It's interesting how your voice goes up in pitch, then down for a while, then peaks up again for a second, and back down...

  • I have two YTids, and both often comment on the same videos-- not sock-puppet-like, though. One gets mirrored to FB. Both get mirrored to Twitter, but to different Twitids.

  • Here's another message to Zuckerberg : stop selling our datas to states.

  • Very well put.

  • Comment removed

  • If that's what you're interested in, then find us some champions of employment or other social changes, and report back to us.

  • @zjempty Question: I have been working in IT for over a decade now and have off and on received Marie Clare magazine for much of my life. I may be misunderstanding but since when was Marie Clare an IT Journal? I can see how social aspects of the web effect Marie Clare readers as it relates to stalking and harassment, so I can see how they would hold a panel but am I thinking of another publication? or has Marie Clare gone into a whole other field? did you misspeak? or am missing something else

  • Perhaps they are an esteemed IT journal like Wile E. Coyote is a mechanical genius.

  • you just made Zuckerberg your bitch.

  • Why should anyone be scared? Congress may make no law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, but the rest of us could choose to 'abridge' them.

  • Only the conformist requires the absence of anonymity, for the non conformist.

My silence is needed where I am, for the protection of the defenseless under my care. WHEN that is no longer the case I WILL risk my own life, via self expression, as it would be reckless and negligent for me to do so now. My dissent is not automatically wrong, just because it is dissent. But conformists would claim me as a criminal, and require that there be consequences to my not being a drone.

  • THANK YOU!

  • I just watched the rest of your vid and it's even better than the beginning. I don't care if you don't believe in or don't understand or don't like God, God bless you.

  • Amazingly well thought out and presented video. I was kind of undecided about the issue. Not anymore. Thanks for posting this.

  • ..Besides, the very idea of interfering with peoples free speech, through societal intimidation (which is what Zuckerbergs' suggestion would actually cause), is just frankly icky -I don't know how else to put it. Its true: people do not speak as Gentile online as they do in public; people speak differently at home as well - should we put big brother cameras in everyones home?BTW I'm curious, has Ms. Zuckerberg ever said anything in private or in emails or on the net that she wouldn't in public?

  • Great Video; I honestly don't get how anyone could disagree with what you're saying, but apparently some do. Anonymity (even though it's only perceived and anyone can find out who anyone is) is extremely important. The internet has become an extension of our social interaction environment. As such, it would be no more morally correct to strip it of its anonymity than it would to strip a persons house of its anonymity. Besides, the idea...continued..

  • @ZJemptv wow I haven't seen a video by you in a long time. It's nice to see you again.

  • Zinnia, I couldn't agree more. Great video! Keep up the good work!

  • Anonymity is a double-edged sword. 'Nuff said.

  • The mandatory use of real names will give the government the control over the internet. The internet was created with the purpose of anonymity and the ability to go around the control of governmental authority. The internet was also created for the purpose of communication without revealing oneself, which means used to be available to people by means of newspapers and anonymous publishing. Now that this form of communication has been virtually done away with, the only means of anonymous

  • communication remaining is the internet. If this kind of control is forced on the people, we will lose the rights of free speech and the government will then control all means of communication available to the people. Fight this kind of control and creeping control of our rights with everything that you know to do. If not, then sit back and enjoy the propaganda machine that is the mass media. Whether fascist, communist, far right wing, left wing or anything in between you'll lose your rights.

  • Is this a dyke or a trap............?

  • @MrSheissen1 i saw a few of her early videos, it appears that she is a trap.

  • @henrycazaux Ah, thank you kind sir. I like to at least kind of know what Im fapping to.

  • Sexi mofo

  • So ZJ is just a male who thinks he's a lesbian? Damn and i thought ((I)) was confused!! WOW Although I do sometimes wish I was a lesbian; a hot lipstick lesbian. ;D

  • IT cant be a lesbian...HES Not genetincly a boy therefor its immpossible to be lesbian HE has the genes of a boy has a dick HE Can get parts removed change his voice look like a girl how ever much still truly is a GUY Lesbian:a woman whose emotional, romantic, and sexual energies are geared towards other women. So there for HES a Homo because Hes a Guy.Yet HES with a girl? Im thinking Transvestite who likes girls? Im glad i could teach you all something today.

  • Ok, I lied. Lol. last point. I have an email listed on my now disabled profile which I have never used anywhere else, yet daily it fills with spam from FB advertisers. I have had all the right boxes ticked to prevent this, and still it comes. I also receive blank emails which correspond to notifications from groups and pages I STARTED which I can no longer access. Nor can I change my email preferences. This now represents 60% of my inbox with no way of stopping it.

  • One last point; the further irony is that I remain active on FB using a wholly fake profile as a result of this policy. Due to medical issues FB is pretty much my life line to the outside world and I've now lost contact with 240 friends, some of whom I've known for over three decades.

  • I have my Facebook page on my business cards. I've asked them to reimburse me, but all they do is demand scans of documents that I wouldn't mail to my bank! Ironically my press card is in my name 'as known' but doesn't have my date of birth on it, and is therefore unacceptable.

  • Damned straight, but I have been banned for using the name by which everyone knows me by. I'm a writer and artist - how many celebrities use their real name? I know of several who have a page with their stage name, and then talk to their friends under yet another fake name.

  • Awesome earring!

  • I find that the level of insight you show within certain topics is very hard to come across. Great job

  • Also, as an aside - you, Zinnia Jones, are my absolute favorite Youtuber.

  • Of COURSE someone with a vested interest in a widely-used social network would say they're against anonymity. Full disclosure would give them access to all the stuff they'd like to be able to sell to advertisers.

  • hey do u really just do these long talks off the top of ur head or do u like write this stuff down and work on it and present it in the video

  • Zinnia, it's only due to watching Ashley's vlog, that I've been fortunate to see your reply to Randi. You are quite attractive, and erudite. It's great to know that people like you and Ashley and Erin are in this world. When one has to deal with all kinds of meaness, evil (and this is by someone who has been given all kinds of help; I even loved her once upon a time). You girls help make my life worth living!!!-lol-krw

  • You make great points here, but you should have just printed the essay that you wrote and are reading here, not put it on Youtube as a vlog. Some of us still like to read, you know. You are standing still, using a monotone. It's a huge disservice to the medium, which in turn is a huge disservice to your message. If it was text, we could internalize your words, make them our own. You could get in my brain rather than tripping over my speakers and falling flat on my desk.

  • Let's say there was a religion in the world that was so vile, that many of its members felt it was their duty to murder anyone who would dare speak against its barbaric misogynistic sacred writings and prophet that was a pedophile and a mass murderer. If we aren't free to anonymously present our case against this horrific religion, then we make ourselves martyrs if we dare try and be an instrument of change in this dark world. That's why the internet must remain anonymous: to bring reform.

  • @exodus21v20

That is all "christian " or "Muslim" religions . Moat civilized people choose to ignore it but the "good book says"

"cut off the head of the non believer"

  • Zinnia for president.

  • I like anonymity mainly because I'm shy. Your video gave me some things to think about that I hadn't considered before. Thanks!

  • "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."

    -Oscar Wilde

    Brilliant video.

  • Bingo, ZJ. And what this moron calls "incivility" is not a real problem--it is a solution. The whole premise to opposing anonymity is completely backwards, because it is the stance of cowards who don't want to be inconvenienced by the expression of ideas they find unpalatable. They are pining for thought police to come and save them from a world they find to be too diverse for comfort.

  • Girl, you keep hitting the nail on the head! Good for you and thank you for speaking out.

  • I love your views.

    BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT

You need to take a breath every now and then.

I find myself having to pause your video just so that my mind can breath you know what I mean ?

  • Thank you so much, ZJ! I know the horrible things people say to you and I know either the "Zinnia" or the "Jones" probably isn't real. People want to KILL you because of your unpopular speech. How is it productive to make you give these assholes your address? That's like saying "Shut up or die." and that's just against the first amendment. Furthermore, how do they expect to enforce this? You try to get a log in, you put a fake name and it says "No, your real name"? The internet wouldn't know!

  • What I say behind your back: "I wonder if ZJ gives us new pieces of information about her gender just to keep us guessing and jumping to conclusions because it gives her a thrill and/or is part of an experiment she is doing for a big-ass psych thesis."

  • What do I say behind your back? Probably things like "If I was single, I would SOOO go out with ZJ."

  • Best case use of anonymity... someone works someplace they don't really like, but must work there for lack of other job opportunities. They hold a position of some society viewed "respect".. in that role they have no personal life as their life on and off the job is always under scrutiny; yet, they wish to be heard, to have their thoughts known, and possibly inform others of some fact that now is but doesn't have to be, they can institute change through anonymity

  • we need net neutrality

  • I would point out also that anonymity protects and fosters free speech for those who dissent from the social norm. Express the "wrong" opinion about islam, scientology or christianity and your life could be in danger. Or your kids could be harassed at school. Try speaking out publicly about mormons in Utah. Not safe.

Stand up against the Klan in the rural south - if you feel suicidal.

Some people have valuable, worthwhile and informative opinions that they could never openly express.

  • Great video, very well said. I have nothing more to add other than your hair is looking lush :) ~PG~

  • Astro turf! :D

  • Comment removed

  • "How horrible the human race truly is"

Sorry, that is IMHO an unacceptable statement: "Horrible" is only your judgment on certain actions of certain people or groups of people. The human race is not horrible, all in all we are a pretty interesting species.

  • I agree though I put my face on youtube I don't want people to know where I live or my phone number that's too personal and there are a shit load of nut jobs out there that'd hurt for you for being against their religion.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo The example that real names do not stop displays of ignorance etc. was used to directly oppose Zuckerberg's point. The example given of anonymity was a benefit ehich it can confer, amongst many others (e.g. speaking out on issues you are under real world pressure not to talk about).

You are comparing two separate things, which is incoherent.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo Actually, this just shows that the expectation that use of real names will make people act decently is not something that holds true in practice, and without that justification, mandatory use of real names is just superfluous and comes with serious costs attached.

  • @ZJemptv the 'serious cost', if i follow your argument, is that people won't express their genuine thoughts out of fear of stigma, thereby depriving us of a full view of the hideous nature of humanity. is there some other cost you've put forward? that particular cost is directly countered by your argument that real names will not keep people from acting out of their inner demons.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo Exposing people's real names can pose a danger to them. I explained that very clearly. People on Facebook feel comfortable expressing their prejudice in what they believe is a private setting, regardless of the fact that their real names are available. They believe it to be a setting of relative anonymity, yet it is still attached to their names and they're fully aware of this. This supports my arguments, not yours.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo You know nothing about what you are talking about, and I feel stupider having read your argument.

  • @ZJemptv I have messaged you numerous times trying to get you to make a video about the rampant racism in the LGTB community. I e-mailed numerous other bloggers about it as well but think you are the most caring of all the ones I know and was really hoping you would tackle it.I understand that it's alien to the vast, vast majority of white LGTB community because they obviously don't experience it but I will tell you that if you took a survey you would see that most non white LGTB members know it

  • @ZJemptv It's even more common than it is in the rest of society. One would think one minority group would be more tolerant of another. Others have argued that there is a lot of homophobia in the non white community as well. I am sure there is but remember. A non white gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person is a minority within a minority and life dose not get any suckier than that. The last thing we need is slurs, exclusion and ridicule from the community which we regularly receive.

  • @ZJemptv that, i agree with. it seemed to me you spoke at some length about how real names would conceal the true horror of humanity, though you're now denying it will. i agree that use of real names won't mask the horror, which is well known in any case. i also agree that real names present a danger, given the insane level of vitriol that dominates online. still, to the extent that i follow your point about concealing the horror, i don't see how you haven't contradicted it.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo Both are true to an extent, but it's because both are the result of the same underlying principle. People on Facebook will more openly say things like that in what they believe to be a private context, because they still think they're relatively unknown (just the same as with anonymous posting); it's more limited and nobody will particularly care what they say anyway. Yet their real names are still associated with this and it doesn't stop them until it's publicly exposed.

  • @ZJemptv that's an interesting distinction. i don't think it's true that nobody will particularly care what they say anyway, but fbook certainly insulates to some extent against the insane rage that obtains in 'pure public.' the interesting question, to my mind, that Zuckerberg's comments point at is whether or not the pure public space can be humanized. your position, if i follow, is 'no' and therefore anonymity is necessary. i'm sympathetic to this position, though still considering.

  • @ZJemptv You all seem to be ignoring the point that anonymity is a right and not a privilege. Witness anonymity of voting in general elections as well as in parliamentary voting procedures.

I would have praised your monologue (and you in my usual effusive way) but am restrained by your comments on your blog, or some such, regarding what you called ‘sycophants.’ For once you were wrong.

  • @originaljonesdotinfo In the end, I don't want to have to tell everyone who I am or where I am. I don't like the fact that someone could do a search on me (If randy had his way) and could find out whatever they want. "If" I had children I also wouldn't want all of what they do online open for people to know about. I don't want people to know that they are kids. Everyone should be free to forfeit their right to privacy, but they shouldn't have the power to forfeit the rights of others.

  • YES. Zinnia is, as per usual, totally and completely right.

  • I don't use my real name on face book, saves me trouble of talkign to reletives and old school mates I care not to communicate with

  • I think that's a pretty shallow definition of cyber-bullying.

  • I find it ironic that her brother would be such a talented hacker who has studied among those who value anonymity as highly as they do access to information yet she speaks openly of creating a gatekeeper ability that would allow Big Brother and indeed anyone with the necessary skills to track, manipulate, intimidate and otherwise govern the way we think and communicate. The internet was created for the open sharing of ideas if someone has to fear because what they said is public it stifles this.

  • Outstanding!

  • ZJ, well said, as usual. Now we just wait for the trolls and haters to pass their ignorant judgements and stupidities, and then enjoy the intelligent commenters! Same ol' same ol'. I particularly love the "is he gay" trolls!!! Looks like we already have some of those now. Cool !!! Carry on ZJ !

  • It's all about control.

  • hmm-I would have to agree-though in response do you ever breath while talking? I mean it was just all connected together with no pause or change in scenery. If your trying to get the attention of ignorant people you need flashing lights and slow moving text. Lol Just thought I would point that out.

  • You talk like a robot wow

  • Word. - George Elliot

  • I put my real information on my online accounts, and i still say whatever i want, but i do not believe that everyone has to be like me.

  • Zinnia, I admire your ability to put together an argument and cut past the bullshit

  • The great thing about you tube is what people would say behind your back is said via the comments for you and all to see. Stupid things said about your arguments can be refuted. Valid disagreements with your own point of view can be considered and shape your understanding of a subject. I think full blown anonymity is great.

  • @CBlargh Wouldnt removing annoyminity from the internet jst push them underground? Sure we may identify a few but after a while people will get the idea and jst hide their ideas until they bubble over in an uncontrolled way or they would just not use the internet.

  • Great Video man, really awesome.

The internet is a giant repository of information but good and bad, why would oyu want to limit peoples access to information?

  • Randi and facebook et al are nothing more than corporate whores toeing the line dictated to them. Big Business wants all anonymity gone to solidify control of the internet - they know who you are so they can bill you, or silence you at will. Keep up the good fight ZJ.

  • I often mock and deride those who flip their shit over things like the TSA's airport security measures and Facebook's face recognition system, but seeking to eliminate anonymity on the Internet in the name of civility is retarded beyond my comprehension.

  • Now I'm glad I never got involved in Facebook. if a fucking SIGHT FOUNDER supports neither people's right to privacy nor Free speech, then why should I use his network? What? So I can just show my face and never share any of my controversial opinions? I can do that in real life.

  • I am an enormous lizard.
