The trailer itself lets you know whats out there. Before MTV was invented and the local radio stations where playing very much of this, Tom Snyder was bringing these acts to the public. I've heard it said to me a number of times over the years "You watched Tom Snyder when you where 18?" It was'nt just the music either.
I really wish this DVD set had contained THE CLASH's "Sandinista"-era performances on Tom - my twin bro and I used to stay up late to catch all the shows: Plasmatics, Jam, Clash, U2, Boomtown Rats, etc. - "good times"
What cannedpoo said. What other nationally-broadcast American show circa 1980 was letting groups like The Ramones and The Jam play without patronizing them? Thanks for being part of a musical revolution, Tom - rest in peace.
Tom was the coolest 'back in the day'. he would have all sorts of freaks on his show that no one else dared to book! He always gave props to all and always had a sense of humor about it all. He was very humble and never bull-sh+tted anyone. The real deal...
Snyder was the bomb. In the early 70s he did a show about androgyny in rock taped at Rodney Bingenheimers... that won't be on this DVD set but I realllllly want to see it!
And following your intelligent comment i assume that means nobody should care about your comments. by the way English Major>> Noone? Yer? go back to school and maybe someone will listen to what you have to say.
This is a GREAT DVD set to buy. Tom is definitely cool. It's a shame The Ramones were on his show when he wasn't there, I would have loved to have seen Tom and The Ramones. It was great when Joey says they were "gypped." Johnny Ramone's look when the guest host talks about Joey's hair is priceless. All in all a fantastic set.
Tom is cool?? every review of this dvd set from critics say the same thing. Tom is not only clueless he is rude and a jerk. Watch the Kim Fowley interview again. Im not a great fan of Kim's but he is somewhat interesting while Tom is a BULLY. Sd reminder of what could have been an intertesting series of interview. I watched it when it was first on tv and sadly there is not enough of Joan.
I'd say he's cool simply by virtue of putting these artists on TV when hardly anyone else was willing to do so ... I haven't seen the DVD, but I'm guessing that Snyder didn't try to censor/contain these acts as much as other shows would. I mean I'm sure they couldn't say the "F" word and all that type of shit, but I think the artists probably got more lattitude on this show then they would on others.
Your making a comment and you HAVE NOT SEEN THE DVD?? grrr. Nothing is more annoying then people make comments about things they have not witnessed. DONT "GUESS" BUY THE DVD!!
I've seen the DVD and I used to watch the chow "back in the day" the reason that he was an ass to Kim Fowley is that Fowley was either cranked out on drugs or was purposely being an ass. Fowley was probably used to just beng on cable accsess TV where people would let him wander around in his head looking for clever things to say without really caring if people could track it or now. On NBC even in the wee hours, you need to be somewhat coherent to be taken seriously.
I agree with your comment on the Segar interview, but if you really watch the Fowley interview he is no way like Mr. Rotten. He may be a little "Out There" But he did not deserve the treatment given to him by Snyder. Tome came across as your typical middle aged old fogey.
Uhhh, no. John actually looked cool and could sing quite well. Glen could play, Steve could play, Paul could play. How about you get your facts straight next time.
The Sex Pistols were NOTHING to do with sounding good, if anything Johnny WANTED to sound shit but as long as he got his message across that tells the truth about this shit hole called Great Britian, he was happy. You fucking cunt.
What's that Ramone song at 0:37?
