I had the opportunity to roll with Garcia at a seminar but didn't as I didn't want to look foolish. I regret not doing it as he will slow down to a pace just above yours so you can learn from him. He can make most black belts look like they just started whenever he wants. Orlando, nice job especially for a blue belt. I would have figured you were a purple from your technique. Good job!
@marlboronegro hes a high high level black belt and he was just playing around with him. marcelo garcia is one of the best grapplers in the world, he was just going easy so that the other guy could learn rather than get constantly beaten.
@jaymont1984 Yeah, i forgot what it was called, i think like half butterfly guard or something. One of my purple belt buddies got that down pretty well. I'm trying it out, it takes a lot of practice and you get burned a lot at first!
DAMN IT! U rolled with MARCELO GARCIA?? Damn! Damn! Damn! I'm jealous with you bro! regardless u got submitted or not by him, you are 1 lucky person bro. He's my idol! Wish I were u there
it's not really anything. it's just the name of eddie's school. he has a different preference of moves which he has lined out in his books, and when people say "10th planet JJ" they are referring to those moves and the ones that eddie's students post on youtube. the general game is a tight, slow, clinching game both on top and bottom
How observant of you.. it's a learning experience, anytime you get the opportunity to roll with someone that good. They can see what positions you've having trouble with and put you in the right place to work on it. I love how they make it look so easy.
Eddie Bravo has already said that he wouldn't be able to show Marcelo anything. Eddie has nothing but respect for Marcelo, just watch Eddie talk about marcelo
Marcelo is probably the nicest guy I've ever met in my life. My third or fourth day at Top Team, he came and sat next to me and asked "you want to be my friend..no one likes to hang out with me?" and started laughing. he then proceeded to spin me like a pizza using only his feet.
Thats awesome. Yeah, all thoughs guys at ATT r really nice, especially Ricardo Liborio. When I used to train there everyone used to call me Sakuraba-San cause im Japanese n coach Liborio could had a tough time pronouncing my name.
Why would he??? if he's the best grappler in the world then maybe he doesnt need that shit... Plus 10th planet jiu jitsu will sometimes take away ur hip movement... Marcelo is all about that
i love eddie bravo and think he's definitely brought something to the realm of No-Gi. but seriously, his only claim to fame is beating royler, that's it. check royler's resume. for someone who comes from the traditional gi training that eddie talks down about, he's sure won a lot of ADCC championships.
His only claim to fame, when you train for 5 years earn a brown belt and tap out a life long BJJ practicioner and son of the founder of the system I think you can claim a lot of fame
actually he had been training for nine years buddy, and Royler was dominating that match and simply got caught. Not taking anything away from Bravo it was one hell of a win, but its not the same as taking someone down, passing their guard, taking their back and then submitting them, its the same as a boxer getting a lucky knockout.
10th planet jiu jitsu is, in a nutshell, abandonment of the conventional guard to a new, more efficient guard called the rubber guard. When using the rubber guard, many new sweeps and positions come into play where there wasn't before, making it a much more dynamic and flexible guard. Search Submissions101 on youtube; they have a ton of rubber guard stuff
New more efficient gaurd??? No no no my friend... Its just another type of gaurd it has its pros and cons... I rather use the conventional gaurd, but the sweeps and setups from halfr gaurd from 10th JJ

you cant be more than a white belt then surely? You turned your back to pass his half guard, that's what happens :) But congrats you are a lucky bloke to roll with a legend.
lol....that is a move, if you noticed he (legend) adjusted his legs, and from there the person can only go three ways.1)he returns to original position2)sweep3) back, he went to back
are you kidding me, this guy isnt bad, try a good blue belt or a purple belt, and there are several ways to pass the half guard there which was taught to me by three black belts, you are a douche, you cant judge a jiu jitsu practioners skill by measuring it against marcelo garcia, particularly , his sweeps, this is a guy who goes to abu dhabi and sweeps just about everyone like THEY were white belts.
He has a phenomenal awareness of his opponents base. Look at Garcia's sweep at 1.36 it looks so simple, you can't imagine it ever failing. Then watch his opponent try the exact same thing at 2.50 and get nowhere with it. He does stuff like that in the ADCC championships too when he's up against the world's elite. He's the best grappler I've ever seen!
i watched it like 10 times as well! i tried it at my bjj place and i dont take the back but it sure as hell creates a scramble! make sure your half guard is a butterfly... although you probably know this, very cool man
Can everyone please stop posting Marcelo Garcia stuff. It's too depressing! He highlights just how far away I am from being any good and I've been training for years!
how do you think i feel! i'm just about to start my bjj journey! :-) He and Rickson in my opinion really UNDERSTAND jj. A lot of people learn jj, but they understand it.
Amazing how easy he makes sweeps or him getting ur back look...I also see how tired you got and he's like...nothing...haha. But good roll man....I'd be honored to roll with him.
I've been thinking about spending a week down there. Does Marcelo teach every night? They don't have any problems with people passing through to train, do they?
