WOW 2 for 2 minutes of a 45 minute fight hopkins looked really good shame u didnt include the times when he was pretending to be injured so he could buy time to recover i counted the time he took about 6 minutes rest. hopkins great fighter but he couldnt keep up with the workrate of calzaghe. shame they didnt have a rematch though

I don't know whether joe would have upped his effort. from what i've seen, nobody really gets the better of hopkins. They might take him to a close fight, but nobody has ever dominated him. If they fought in wales, joe might have got another close decision, just because he's got incredible workrate. I think bhop would still land the harder cleaner shots. Hopkins is always the maligned fighter. the judges are looking for ways not to give him the fight. That's what happened with Taylor as well

@brendos444 Once Joe has worked his opponents out, it's one way traffic, as in the second half of this fight, after a slow start by Joe. A rematch would have been easier for Joe and i doubt Hopkins would have been allowed to get away with so much headbutting, holding, time wasting, cheating. Hopkins was far too negative here, spoiling the fight was his only chance, and if he was more aggressive he would have played into Joe's hands.

If you look closely at the fight, many of Joe's punches were missing and bhop landed the cleaner shots throughout. bhop was never hurt or in trouble in this fight. Hopkins played it mostly how he wanted to play it and Joe never fully adjusted to bhop's style.
Joe had a chance to fight Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr in their primes but choose not to cause he knew he was not good enough. Joe is the biggest cherry picker in the history of boxing. There was no indication whatsoever that Joe beat Hopkins's ass. Not to mention that it was called a split decision. It could have easily gone the other way without it being a controversial decision. If a 43 yr old Hopkins can drop Calzaghe, a 33 yr old Hopkins would KO Calzaghe.

2 very similar styles applied in very different ways. they both rely on elusiveness, speed, the ability to use movement to mislead their opponent. except hopkins uses precise, effective shots and calzaghe uses volume, speedy, slap combonations used to outpoint his opponent. Although they're supposed to reward CLEAN, EFFECTIVE striking it's really the judges opinion. In this case 2 of 3 judges favored the volume of Calzaghe, even tho he landed very few clean shots, it could've gone either way.

A big tell was the look on their faces at the end of the fight, Calzaghe looked like he thought he lost. His corner more urgent as the fight went on. B-Hop looked pretty sure he won. I'm sure the stupid comments B-Hop made leading up to the fight may have affected the judges opinion of him, it's clear it affected the crowd, the boo'd him the whole fight.

I had Hopkins winning this fight. It was close, but neither clearly won. All Calzaghe does is throw slaps that don't land 75 percent of the time. Hopkins landed the cleaner, harder, more effective shots and after the fight he didn't even look like he was in a fight, which just goes to show how weak and ineffective Calzaghe's punches are.

@enlighten09 Hopkins took time from the nut shot because he was a past his prime, 43 year old man who was fighting someone who throws a 1000 punches a fight. Granted those punches are weak and mostly inaccurate, which makes them not very effective in terms of damage. I didn't see Hopkins intentionally headbutting or even clash heads with Calzaghe too often, he drops his head to avoid being hit on the chin. That is legal, and I don't watch any fights with bias I just score them how I see them.

I think there is alot to be said about a guy like Roach saying that pacquiao can beat hopkins! Just take into account that even after Roach said that, he has till this day never challenged Hopkins and Nazim Richardson to go against his prized Pacman. WOW 2 for 2 minutes of a 45 minute fight hopkins looked really good shame u didnt include the times when he was pretending to be injured so he could buy time to recover i counted the time he took about 6 minutes rest. hopkins great fighter but he couldnt keep up with the workrate of calzaghe. shame they didnt have a rematch though

I don't know whether joe would have upped his effort. from what i've seen, nobody really gets the better of hopkins. They might take him to a close fight, but nobody has ever dominated him. If they fought in wales, joe might have got another close decision, just because he's got incredible workrate. I think bhop would still land the harder cleaner shots. Hopkins is always the maligned fighter. the judges are looking for ways not to give him the fight. That's what happened with Taylor as well

@brendos444 Once Joe has worked his opponents out, it's one way traffic, as in the second half of this fight, after a slow start by Joe. A rematch would have been easier for Joe and i doubt Hopkins would have been allowed to get away with so much headbutting, holding, time wasting, cheating. Hopkins was far too negative here, spoiling the fight was his only chance, and if he was more aggressive he would have played into Joe's hands.

If you look closely at the fight, many of Joe's punches were missing and bhop landed the cleaner shots throughout. bhop was never hurt or in trouble in this fight. Hopkins played it mostly how he wanted to play it and Joe never fully adjusted to bhop's style.

He did fight big name fighters but when he did they were old and well past thier prime. he picks on the weak and old. what a loser he is. his undefeated record does not tell the whole story. Give the guy his dues and respect. He is UNDEFEATED, he beat everybody in front of him. Hopkins was holding, headbutting, feigning injury...using all the tricks in the book "old school execution" Yes he got knocked down, but he came back up. The only way to beat him is by KO, cos with the sheer number of punches Calzaghe throws he will always win if it goes the distance.

who knows who would beat the other in their prime. that is open to debate. But Calzaghe beat Bhop ass in this fight and deserve to win. Bhop tactics all night was punch once or twice then hold the fighter, thats always been his trademark. Calzaghe stamina and workrate prevailed and he out-boxed him to clearly win.

@anhihong Actually, it's quite easy to see that a prime Hopkins would destroy Calzaghe. Be realistic. Hopkins, at the age of 43 was able to drop Joe on his ass. There was no indication whatsoever that Joe beat Hopkins's ass. Not to mention that it was called a split decision. It could have easily gone the other way without it being a controversial decision. If a 43 yr old Hopkins can drop Calzaghe, a 33 yr old Hopkins would KO Calzaghe.

2 very similar styles applied in very different ways. they both rely on elusiveness, speed, the ability to use movement to mislead their opponent. except hopkins uses precise, effective shots and calzaghe uses volume, speedy, slap combonations used to outpoint his opponent. Although they're supposed to reward CLEAN, EFFECTIVE striking it's really the judges opinion. In this case 2 of 3 judges favored the volume of Calzaghe, even tho he landed very few clean shots, it could've gone either way.

A big tell was the look on their faces at the end of the fight, Calzaghe looked like he thought he lost. His corner more urgent as the fight went on. B-Hop looked pretty sure he won. I'm sure the stupid comments B-Hop made leading up to the fight may have affected the judges opinion of him, it's clear it affected the crowd, the boo'd him the whole fight.

@citizenfitz At least you can admit they where past thier peak yes they willingly got in the ring and in Hopkins case gave a very close fight which deserved a rematch. RJJ was at least shot a decade ago so its not worth mentioning him.
But at the end of the day like Lennox beating tysonand holyfield JC fought BHOP and RJ when it meant nothing to anyone but him its a fight that hasnt tarnished them in the slightest but is seen as JC greatest achievement that shows the differences in class imo.

I had Hopkins winning this fight. It was close, but neither clearly won. All Calzaghe does is throw slaps that don't land 75 percent of the time. Hopkins landed the cleaner, harder, more effective shots and after the fight he didn't even look like he was in a fight, which just goes to show how weak and ineffective Calzaghe's punches are.

Secondly, those things have nothing to do with scoring a fight which is what my original post was talking about. I had Hopkins winning close and I explained why. @enlighten09 Hopkins took time from the nut shot because he was a past his prime, 43 year old man who was fighting someone who throws a 1000 punches a fight. Granted those punches are weak and mostly inaccurate, which makes them not very effective in terms of damage. I didn't see Hopkins intentionally headbutting or even clash heads with Calzaghe too often, he drops his head to avoid being hit on the chin. That is legal, and I don't watch any fights with bias I just score them how I see them.

@cmacguinness87 Firstly,Calzaghe ducked Glen Johnson THREE times, he wasn't gonna go anywhere near Roy or Bernard when they were in their primes if he was afraid of Glen Johnson, even if they offered him the fight. Secondly, Calzaghe would not have wiped the floor with anybody at 175lb before he retired. He barely got by Hopkins, and Chad Dawson offered to fight him in Wales. Dawson would have beat Calzaghe down, he wanted no part of that and retired instead of actually fighting a prime fighter.

@BooRikkaaa101 You need to get your facts right if you think Calzaghes "best wins" were against Roy Jones Jr & Hopkins. His greatest fights were his fights against Jeff Lacy, Eubank or Kessler, maybe the Roy Jones Jr fight but defiantly not Hopkins and yes i was ringside at his fight against Kessler.

@fltsqd Hopkins and Jones jr already fought. Hopkins lost by decision. So another fight is just a rematch. Hopkins wants to even the score. If hopkins wanted to even it up that bad. He should of taken what ever roy put on the negot. table at the time. Then they would of fought again a long time ago.

@BooRikkaaa101 - first of all Hopkins fought as a Middleweight until taylor ended his reign in 2005. As far as I know Calxaghe fought his entire career at super middleweight or above. It was only in 2006 that Hopkins moved up in weight to Tarver that he was available to fight Calzaghe. I never heard hopkins call out calzaghe once during his middleweight reign. I never heard of Jones calling out Calzaghe either.Again Calzaghe was at supermiddle and jones moved up to ltheavy. skew it all u want

umm, is this title a mistake, Calzaghe dogged Hopkins and wore him down to a clear decision win, Hopkins was holding on towards the end, he had his moments but was clearly beaten.
