  • Where does WNIC 100.3 in Detroit signal start to pick-up if you're travelling west to Michigan on 402 toward Sarnia as of summer 2009.

  • 91.7 Was WUOM From Ann Arbor, 92.3 Was WMXD from detroit, 105.5 Was WWCK from Flint (CK105.5) 93.3 Was Z93 From Saginaw

  • In your car, was 100.3 WNIC a Detroit regular visitor from the London, ON area?

  • @nicka727 depending on how much adj channel interference I have from 100.5 (CBC-R2). The only real regular visitor's are WOMC and Hot 102.7

  • can u pick up 96.7 CHYR from windsor on ur radio.

  • @tmepo1120 no CHYM-FM form K/W is pretty much a local here.

  • How long does it take to work your own radio???

  • Doesn't he know how to work his radio????

  • 96.5 is kiss fm of cleveland ohio.

  • Part 3: Tropospheric FM dxing is best done with a good RDS receiver. Our Denon TU1500RD shows that WOMC make great use of their RDS 3 Encoder, showing station ID, Radio Text and auto scrolling, indicating song tile and artist

    .

Tropospheric transmission and reception is not new. Some interesting reading on the D.E.W. line used during the cold war era, shows 800-900 MHZ radio was bounced 300-500 miles using Tropo E across the Arctic.

  • Part 2: WOMC's High ERP , shorter mast height hits the troposphere with a wallop, scattering the signal back to earth, in our case 150 miles eastwards toward Elmira Ontario. Given that their antenna is considered to be omni directional, this phenomenon should occur in all directions. Experimenting with WOMC's signal in my car ,you usually don't receive a ground wave signal until you hit Chatham Kent Region, traveling west on the 401 in Ontario. Radio Locator's coverage map of WOMC confirms this.

  • Part one: Tropospheric E can be fun and proven to be extremely reliable using the right combination of Frequency, RF power, Transmission tower Height and Receiving tower height. A high gain Yagi such a Winegard HD6065 and a high gain preamplifier such as a Channel Master 555 and a tower about 60ft produces amazing results.

My theory on the consistent reception of WOMC Detroit is unlike some stations towers in that area can be 500 to 700 ft high, WOMC's tower is only 361 ft. using 190 kw

  • 96.3 is WDVD in Detroit, Michigan.

  • I do a lot of this myself, when I'm bored, either at home, or sitting by the nearby rail crossing in my car.

  • WREO, 97.1 is actually Ashtabula, Ohio

  • @shikyrie their 50,000 watt signal booms in here regularly

  • 88.7 is CIMX Windsor. 96.3 is WDVD Detroit. If 98.5 is classic rock, it may be WNCX Cleveland. 101.7 is CKNX Wingham. 103.3 is CKCI which shares the CBC tower in Sarnia and is a rebroadcaster of First Nation radio station "The Eagle" 107.7 Kettle Point.

  • Plus another note: If you were able to pick up 92.5 out of Toronto, it was Jack rock, and so was Buffalo's 92.9

But 92.5 changed to become a CHR format some time in either July or August of this year. Kiss92.5FM

  • KISS92 will never come in here at all due to their lower-power compared to the other Toronto stations (their antenna is on 1st Canadian place, compared to the CN tower for the rest) and we have 50,000 watt CJBX 92.7 less then 10km from here.

  • Still calling it foxy eh? It's been that Jewel88 crap for at least two years. Thanks for proving nobody's listening to that station! (=;

  • To confuse you a bit, if you can pick up 95.3 out of Ontario Canada (CING) They were country95.3 but they just changed this morning to "The Greatest Hits" ...sounds like a 60's 70's super station of some sort, but needs djs!!!!

  • We get them here okay... I doubt they will amount to much, call it a cost saving move like VT'ed Jukebox that is 103.9FM now.

  • you should get a hd radio receiver like the sony xdr-f1hd i got mine from ebay and i live in st paul ablberta canada and i got a station from utah in hd it is a really good dx radio tuner i recemend it

  • i would like to (just can't really justify it right now). it sounds like a good receiver from what I've herd, just no stations in Canada using the IBOC system and I'm not too close to the major centers using IBOC in the USA for regular reception (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo) being the closest, with low ERP's of the IBOC stations playing a big factor too. If the Erie area stations did, then my luck may be better.

  • 98.3 - the bull ( country ) Ohio

  • Their a normal visitor around here, will until we have a Local Station on 98.1

  • 96.3 WDVD, 97.9 WJLB, 98.7 WVMV, 93.1 Doug-FM, all from Detroit.

The reason I mentioned 97-7 was because 97.3 came in.

  • Yeah I see the Detroit ones often, but can't say I've really ever seen HTZ-FM....

  • Excellent !! 5*

  • "Eagle 99.1" is WFRO from Fremont, OH (northwest Ohio)

The station on 105.7 you were getting may have been WMJI from Cleveland. They are an oldies/classic hits station.

I live across the Lake from you and I can often get FM96 along with 95.1 the Rock and sometimes Q97.5, London's EZ Rock will interfere with WONE-FM 97.5 from Akron.

  • FM96 has a crazy signal, too bad it seems like their constantly getting lower and lower budget (voice-tracked after 7pm etc...). Their playlist is one of the best active rockers in Canada IMO.

  • The classical station on 94.5 is from Buffalo. The station you were getting on 105.7 may have been 105.7 EZRock from St. Catharines. Have you ever received a station from Cleveland, such as 100.7 WMMS or 98.5 WNCX?

  • I was able to get 105.7 EZRock a while ago, until MyFm 105.7 signed on in Strathroy, it always stomps it out. I have got 98.5 WNCX before and WMMS. WNCX gets co-channel by 98.5 CKWR in Waterloo and WMMS is Adj Channel from CBC Radio 2 100.5. 92.3 Is my strongest Cleveland station.

  • 96.5 is Kiss FM in Cleveland. Also, 99.5 is country in Cleveland (WGAR). Buffalo has a religious station on 99.5. I know those Delco car radios don't have very good adjacent channel selectivity, which is critical in getting weaker stations that are next to strong ones. My '97 Malibu had one just like the one you have there.

  • Is 103.9 up there no longer called "The Hawk"? Yesterday I was getting a station on 103.9 calling itself "103.9, the greatest hits of all time" and they were playing Billy Joel. Then this morning, I was getting a classical station on 103.9. This was received in Vermilion, OH

  • Yeah since the CRTC relaxed the Hit Policy on FM, the Hawk "Morphed" into Classic Hits/Oldies branding as "103.9 FM". Not to mention all the cutbacks they did in the process...

  • 88.1 CBC Radio One from Chatham

    88.3 CJIQ Kitchener

89.9 CBC Radio Two from Windsor

    90.9 WRCJ Detroit

    91.1 CJRT Toronto

I also suspect that 97.7 HTZ-FM St. Catharines comes in sometimes.

  • HTZ-FM gets stomped out by 50,000 watt CIQM-FM 97.5 almost no matter what.

  • My house about 20km east of London, Ontario, Canada. Partly Cloudy Morning, about 22c with 86% Humidity and calm winds.

This happens regularly in the summer. Stations I normally get (about 19) are listed with Local beside them in the details.

  • 20 km east of London. Dorchester?

  • yes

  • Good guess? That brings back memories of long, long ago.

    Good DX'ing by the way.

  • Wow... this is odd... im just wondering what city / town were you in when you took this video... im wondering was this a reily clear day with no clouds...
