Incredible vocal by Arrington. I remember when the song first hit, alot of folks was'nt feeling his vocal delivery. A week later we were all trying to sing like him. (lol)
1980. In college in the dorm the room across the hall. Really really love this song. The bass from the speaker rattled the walls every afternoon that whole year.
@02Stratus yeah i just realized the connection the other night as I was sippin on some gin & juice myself and naturally, humming the Snoop and Dre tune ... and I said "wait a second! They took that from Slave and they just changed the melody a little"
"Doggie Dogg World" stole a line from "If it Ain't One Thing It's Another." I used to think that was the funniest song.
I remember when i was about 12 & I saw a group of teenage girls flip da fuck out when this song came on while we were at school. i think someone had a radio n da halls & from dat moment on this song was embedded in my conscience. Nowadays while enjoying it, da Funk flows so sweet n da lyrics make me feel like a youth again.
this song brings back good memories & i think steve arrington plays bass guitar & sings lead vocals & i always liked the guy. i never seen him, i just love 2 hear him sing & play music 4 me. good stuff

@MsNoodles10 Great story! One day you will sing and dance with YOUR kids. Music knows NO shelf life. Great music should be passed from one generation to the next. Peace.
@MsNoodles10 You have a WONDERFUL DAD and this makes me smile and think of those days when my DAD use to sing, dance and swing me in the air to this song while my MOTHER took turns dancing with my three brothers. My dad is old now BUT he's still my HERO; and can't move that good but we still laugh and sing to this song and think about the good ol' days!!!
@MsNoodles10 .....i came to the conclusion that you can be mad as hell and then you hear that old school funk bounce beat...you then start tap'n your toes and wiggle'n your ass to the beat.....then you no longer remember what you were mad about!!!
@picazzo247 I using the Directv "Old School Funk" as therapy....This last week has been so much "lighter" all the way around...My new fav is Early In The Morning by The Gap Band...
@GunGemini True and the sad part of it is, when radio stations play flashbacks of the 2000 era ('00), what will they play? Tracks with samples of older eras...The age of the songwriter needs to come back...
@dkofva excellent point, if any current song of the present sounds good, that song features a sample....sampling is cheating to me, when I was a teenager back in the late 80's..I felt the same way even then
Amazing to know that Steve Arrington was not just the lead vocalist but he was the one laying down the drums for Slave!! I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio...I was in the 2nd grade and when I heard I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. I thought it was the prettiest and grooviest song ever for a long time!
Thank you for posting this, Love me some Slave and Steve Arrington, that voice and the way he moans. heat personified, did you young ones hear his rap, same objective but not degrading his lady. Listen and learn,

Reading some of the post's from younger viewers gives me hope that music like this will hopefully be written again. I'm not hating on Rap or Hip Hop. Listen up young ones, this is the music that gets us girls in the mood.
i grew up listening to this good music. Funk, Disco, all that good CLASSIC music that can never be forgotten. i wish this stuff was still around. i feel like i should have been born in this era. Im 17 now but i have the Heart of a 70's baby!! :D

@showtime516 Unfortunately this type of music will never come back because the youngsters these days just don't appreciate it or understand what good music is. And we all know that today's radio is youth driven and all their crap gets most of the airplay. These days the guys don't care about women and the women don't respect themselves and act like ho's. That's why it's so much crap and profanity on today's music because of the lack of respect.

Wow heard the shocking news that Mark the hansolar adams has passed - yet there is so little information surrounding his sad passing. I grew up listening to Slave by far my fav group. Thanks you Mark you helped contribute to a wonderful time growing up listening to classic funk - so THANK YOU and the guys sooo much.

To the family, friends, and fans of brotha Mark Adams, Let us not weep in sorrow, but rather let us rejoice in victory, let us not hang our heads in sadness, but let us lift our voices with praise unto Almighty God. For God has loaned brotha Mark to us, and God has now received him, unto Himself. The way that Mark played that bass, only God could have given him that kinda talent.
Band names are mean to get attention and set themselves apart from others not to make a statement. Hence Niggahs with an attitude(NWA) they're black too.
Yeah Man! another one of those timeless ol skool classics. Ya see, it's music like this that hits you in every way, I mean, if you feel like dancin', chillin', romancin', coolin'
"WHATEVER"!, that good olskool stuff moves you and grooves you in every way.
JUST DO THIS EXERCISE WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THIS, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND JUST INHALE DEEPLY ONCE THAT FEELING OF NOSTALGIA COMES BACK ABOUT THE TIME THIS CAME OUT. AHHHHH! WHAT A RUSH! THE CLASSICS!
This is real music. Funk all day and nothing but the funk. Slave gets the party started. Singing good about the real ladies. Slave was untouchable then and now. The baseline is second to none.
I LOVE IT!!! Me in the 9th grade, walking down the street to meet my boyfriend so he could ride me on his handlebars!!! This is the music that accompanies my memories of that time!

Band names are mean to get attention and set themselves apart from others not to make a statement. Hence Niggahs with an attitude(NWA) they're black too.

Great song, but still fumbles me why they call theirself Slave? And they are black...
Nothing racist was ment in this comment, more the oppsite road.

@norXmal Their idea was "we are all slaves of god" hence the name "Slave".

This is real music. Funk all day and nothing but the funk. Slave gets the party started. Singing good about the real ladies. Slave was untouchable then and now. The baseline is second to none.
