  • i hope he got his free GN & a nice heavy CHECK.

  • I bet George THorogood got at least a Grand National for the commercial.

  • Yes, yes I would....

  • Mmmmm, black and beautiful and that is all.

  • I'd rather have a beer

  • Comment removed

  • Thats not a cover, thats IS George Thorogood.

  • fuck yeah

  • i hav an '87 Buick Grand National [ ALL STOCK ]

  • @artmak5

The gnx was part of a era when cars were embraced for their sheer horsepower, and when the average Joe could own a piece of prime muscle. But society has become too retarded to handle the better things in life...

Dickhead buys fast car, dickhead races fast car, dickhead crashes car. Dickhead dies. Dickhead represents a larger demographic of dickheads that crash cars and kill themselves. Dickheads cause insurance rates to be too expensive for people to afford fast cars. Dickheads

  • @Guitarzan4207 There is really something wrong with you

  • Imagine in the mid 1980s, General Motors had built the 3.8L V6 that could stomp their 305 powered Camaros and Firebirds. GM 3.8 liter is one of the best engines ever made.

  • Funny, they really had a lot of confidence back then to put "BAD" in the commercial, now days people might get the wrong idea, that the car is actually BAD.

  • wow! I have never seen a commercial for the Grand National before

  • The Grand National boast HP of around 265 from 85-87 and cost around $18,900. In 1987 The GNX package for the Regal Grand National gave it a bigger turbo and a sport tuned suspension. Also gave it HP gains and it got around 300 hp. GM never anounced the HP output of the GNX package but when dynoed it put out 300 or so. Oh that GNX package was a mere $11k option. For those who don't know.

  • HD/HQ PLZ!

  • One of the few GM "mass market" body styles that has really held up well. This and the 81-88 Cutlass coupes still look really fresh, considering they were designed in late 70's...

  • Despite all the drone buying the overweight robocop Camaro this is one Last nice GM made.

I had a midsize car with 165hp that would move better than todays 200hp midsize. Extra power doesn't mean much when it's 4000 pounds instead of 3200.

300hp cars of today aren't much faster than190hp cars of 1995 Thanks to weight and I believe fudged numbers.

  • wow 200 hp image if they did that today

  • great and funny commercial :D

  • i love that 80's buick eagle/hawk

  • that's got to be the coolest car commercial ever!! cool car, cool music!!

  • In GTA San Andreas it's Majestic, ¿or not?

  • this is the coolest camershal ever

  • I despise american cars in general, but if buick would just take the same recipe for the Gran National/Gnx today (i.e. grab a well sorted 2 door frame call up McLaren, and built a 6 cylinder turbo sleeper monster) i'd be a customer.

Alas that won't happen, because Buick isn't interested in building great cars anymore.

  • Maybe you should go back to your place of origin.

  • no maybe you should shitdick...

  • @lictor313 I despise Canadians in general, so I know where your coming from..but if Canada would start making their own cars, and their people would stay in their own frozen wasteland instead of coming into my country and blocking my highways by not turning right on red and walking around with knee high black socks and shorts on, and shit talking MY countries automakers..I'd like them more...

  • @StoneCold75 your country's automakers are routinely shat upon by your own citizenry. I was merely stating a fact when deplored the generally shitty products coming out of GM, Ford et al for the past 20+ years.

btw the canadian government also had a bailout plan for your country's failure as an automaker- yeah canadian tax payers fronted 800 million! Certainly that's a very good reason for us to stop buying american. and maybe even produce our own cars! enjoy your obama and mexican illegals!

  • @lictor313 American citizens can shit talk American automakers..YOU can not..your country is like the northern version of Puerto Rico to us..like a territory...You can't even decide what language you want to speak..your torn between wanting to be French and wanting to be American, you have no cultural identity, your country makes nothing, invents nothing and is kind of a joke on a international level..and don't worry Obama will be a one term president, and the Mexicans are being deported daily.

  • @StoneCold75 loooL! Canada is your second largest trading partner slightly behind CHina... We used to be first until 2008. Canada is the US's largest exporter of Crude Oil and Total Petroleum look at the stats from your own "energy information administration"... Your country is more bilingual than ours (since you have a larger proportion of hispanics than we do French. OUr cultural identity has been erased JUST AS YOURS is... being american means nothing other then where you live.

  • @StoneCold75 Obama being elected is proof enough that Americans don't respect themselves, do not honor their great and noble forefathers, and have become a ridiculous self hating, and debased country of fucking weakwilled nothings. Canadians invented basketball, the telephone, the internet modem, radio telephony, we invented and built your space suits for the moon mission, we also invented sonar, insulin, peanut butter (that's right it wasnt frederick douglas). Enjoy giving up your country!

  • @StoneCold75 I remember going to your biggest state california, and noticing that whites and native anglophone speakers are a minority in that god forsaken land... start cleaning out your backyard before you go on criticizing others.

Mexicans are being made citizens- most of whom hate your forefathers, can't speak coherent english and hate your culture... and your country takes them with open arms... and here you are spewing hate about canadians? you wonder why no one respects you as a country?

  • @lictor313 ..Basketball?..that was invented in Massachusetts by a Canadian defector to the US..nice try...the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, a Brit..Peanut Butter was invented by the Aztec Indians...Ugh...your delusional. Nobody respected the United States??..are you smoking crack??..There are 6 Billion men women and children around the globe that would cut off their fingers to come to the United States...Listen Chief, go take your peanut butter bullshit somewhere else

  • @StoneCold75 first patent for peanut butter was in canada... but you're correct about aztecs eating peanut butter paste... and James Naismith invented basketball and patented that at mcgill university in montreal canada... sorry, Bell invented the telephone in nova scotia canada...

canada has higher life quality indexes than the US... its just that your country (being the dump that it is letting itslef to be) is easier to get in...

  • I would Murder ever one on my BLOCK for one of these!!BlackBeautys

    keyz-

  • buick just needs to make this one last time before they get axed like oldsmobile

  • true when will gm bring back the rear wheel drive muscle car

  • there coming out with that new roadmaster or regal it going to be luxury but fast as hell

  • they did...with the new camaro perhaps?

  • gm is trying to keep buick cadillac chevy and gmc there getting rid of pontiac and saturn too many elderly people buy buick to get rid of them

  • Amazing Machine! even by todays standards.

  • at :21 the girl looks like she's about to take her panties off.

  • Thats how badass the Grand National is.

  • HAHAhaha If chicks take one look at it then remove their panties then everybody should be driving one.

  • Even if you dont like Grandnationals you should buy it just for that girl at the end of this video =P

  • i have one......no i don't.

  • Awesome commercial. My dad had one of these kind of cars. It's his favorite kind. I was lucky enough to go for a ride in it.

  • very bad ass

  • i love the grand nationals. whats the gas mileage on them. im thinking about getting one

  • 15 city 23 highway new.

  • I mean Turbo

  • beautiful!

  • yes i would rather have a buick!!

  • lol

  • @eightymopar me too an early one, *cough* Grand National

  • Very nice classic commercial! I own an '84 GN and love it. This commercial is either an '84 or '85, hard to tell without seeing a good shot of the interior to see which seats it has, either Lear-Seigler seats if '84 or the standard GN ones that were in '85-'87.

That's the useless bit of trivia for the day. :D

  • I <3 Buick

  • I've had three Buick turbo cars, and over 90 (true) other types of hot rods / muscle cars and these Buicks kick ass!!

  • oh btw it runs at a cool 170 degrees all year long, even with temperatures over 90 outside...

  • lol buddy im sure of it, these are not you normal 3.6 litres these are super engines , no one can catch up with these cars with a few mods you can run tens and still drive it to work so you can keep that pussy ford ill take the buick

  • its a 3.8 liter

  • dude GNX's were all garrett turbo 3.8L V6's. watch the commercial again.

  • my fucking Fairmont Ghia BFII is a Triton 5.4Litre ... 230kW and massive 500Nm of torque;) ... its a 6 speed auto ... and of course as any Aussie car its de-tuned from some 280-290kW... i have a new ECU software, Flow master extractors, Cold air intake... now it makes 327kW/640Nm and it eats shitty 3.6 and 3.8Litre and 5.7 and 6Litre commodores for breakfast;)

  • LOL u don't know shit about cars haha Intake Exhuast and chip adding some 150 horses bullshit that shit adds 50 tops at the wheels i bet you've never been close to a drag strip or a dyno before wanna be racer ps fords are gay ohh 445 hp and 500 torque nothing a ZO6 can't put in it's place, on top of that in a heavy ass 4 door AUTOMATIC HAHAHA

  • It's ok... my 650 HP Mustang powered by a Chevy 350 small block will spank the shit outta most of your cars (shameful it's not street legal in america).

And FordFalconRules, you are a moron. Buick's 3.8 litre turbo charged GNX was the fastest production car from like 87-89. That means their was not a faster Dodge or Ford pushed outta the factory that could keep up with the GNX.

  • why does your mustang have a chevy 350 in it? is it older or newer because the 5.0 has a shitload of mods for it here, and all you got to do for cars that aren't street legal in the U.S. is register them in cities that don't do emissions testing unless your car isnt street legal because it doesn't have all the lights or bumpers ECT but it shouldn't be a problem because you have a mustang.

  • wat is 230 kw and 500 nm like 10 horsepower and 17 ft lbs of torque at the crank i got a craftsman ridin lawnmower id like to run you with so if you are ever in the states you commie bastard give me a call and well line em up but beware my mower runs 8s in the 1/4--8 minutes that is jackass

  • 230 kilowatts are 308 h.p. and 500 newtons-meter are 370.3 pound-feet of torque. If that's the output of a Grand National 3.8L Turbo v6, it's impressive!

  • thats about how much hp the gnx had the gn had about 220hp

  • its the worst engine ... it was usually eaten by Fords EA-ED , EF-EL , AU-AUIII , BA-BF big 4Litre inline Six Ford Falcons here in Australia ... the best and true FORD car just like Ford Crown Victora.... go the FALCON FORD FALCON ALL THE WAY!!! the big aussie six;)

  • actually no you idiots...the buick or "chevy" 3.8Litre engine is a pushrod ... its underpowered naturally it doesnt make any loads of torque and its very poor and not so reliable ... it eats oil and overheats regularly ... it did stuff up all the time in Australian VN-VP, VR-VS , VT-VY Commodores , worst engine ever.

  • Chevrolet had absolutly nothing to do with the design of the Buick 6. It was originally concieved back when Buick still had its own engines designs, well before alll GMs shared the same powerplants. Its funny that you are quick to insult a competitor's engine even though you clearly do not know anything about it. I happen to have an 86 Intercooled 6 and it is a very dependable engine, which doesn't "eat" any oil at all...

  • Yeah true I am agree with any of U guys tat sad is more than 200 ponies.Of course It's got more than that plus train loads of torque.

  • The Buick of today is a joke. These cars and the GS and GSX of the 60s/70s must have been a dillusional offshoot of someone at Buick doing drugs, because for the most part,Buicks have always been old men's cars....Lucerne and LaCross are no exception.

  • Considering that the GS455 Stage 1 was just about the fastest muscle car of its day, I'd say they did quite well. What Buick did, they always did well.

  • @hpspeedster buick should have died out instead of pontiac just like how chrysler should've died out instead of plymouth

  • @hpspeedster i like the la cross.i mis like this grand national in it

all so europeans/let me ask again i ask mi self 10000 times.wy is the regal 2010

a opel insgnia wy could t buick design own regal wy a opel ? insgnia is great car also opel not as a copy as a regal

  • @hpspeedster Your a knob, I own a Grand National and there is no substitute.....

  • @hpspeedster Your dillusional, I happen to own Grand National, and there really is no substitute..........Its the best car I ever owned, excellent on gas unless you punch it, then look out ===============your gone, good on the highway for traveling...Classy and Quick, thats a wicked combination.

  • @hpspeedster Buicks were the sickest!, in the old days!

  • that 200hp is bs they had to say 200hp for insurance reasons and wut not my dads gn is at about 550hp with only a bigger turbo race gas and a sick amount of boost , 32 pounds

  • plus it's not the HP it's the Torque. I bet they might only have 200hp that year but still close to if not ~300 foot pounds of torque!

  • they did but might not have had in 1985. I think the later 80s ones had much more with the intercooler.

  • 200 horsepower? no way, they had to have had more ponies than that.

  • Yeah that's the same thing I was thinking cuz u know GM was real good at cooking the books on HP levels back then. They couldn't give the car a huge power level cuz its not supposed to outdo the Corvette

  • And to think that thing smoked the Ferrari testarossa back in those day in the 1/4mile yeah id rather have that Buick!.

  • The car is awesome and everybody in the video looks cool except the black lady with the red hat shes need to be in a micheal jackson video or something.

  • i just bought an 86 that has some pretty major hail damage but i plan to restore the beast and get a little more ot of that V6 u know show the ricers what americam muscle is all about

  • i'm proud to my dad owned one of those an 87

  • He rocks lol

    I have two :D

    86' and an 87'

  • nice

  • Shows you how much (or maybe how little) Buick publicly promoted the GN--but then those in the know didn't need the promotion...they knew it, man!

  • baddest,blackest,buick ever

  • yeah john from space, she even slipped herself the finger...honest i saw it

    in my mind

  • I happen to own an 87 Turbo T, the little brother to the Grand National. It has the intercooled turbo 3.8 liter.

  • Thank you so much bigblockelectra! I have always been looking for a GN commercial.

Looks like they must have been drivin around Staten Island for this commericial. Heh, heh.

  • That commercial is for the 1984 or 85 model GN. In 1986 Buick introduced an intercooler which added about 30-40 more horsepower. 1987 cars had 10 more H/P than the 86's.

  • Some say different engines & dif powerbands could be why it's really 200-245. True, but I can do a oranges to oranges comparison showing the ratings are wrong/bullshit. I have a Buick 3.8 (SFI just like a GN) in a 1996 Bonneville rated at 205. Great car but it won't touch this GN. Same Bore x Stroke and Cubes --- Similar powerband as a result. I just have no turbo, less cam, less fuel squirt, less a lot of stuff. I love these cars, and worked on them as a tech for 10 years at the GM dealer.

  • Awesome car!

  • of course the corvettes back then were so over rated the trans ams, irocs,gn all culda been faster than the vette ....but noooooo

  • The grand national is so awesome that that chick in the spandex started touching herself when she saw it. Awesome

  • The G.M. Brass were very unHappy with this commercial because it depicted a Buick as a hot rod in the early 80's AND this car actually beat the corvette for one year in top end speed & 1/4 mile. Very embarassing for their top end sports coupe, the vette. The ad barely ran on TV for a week or so.Then they pulled it !!!

  • The GNX was also faster than the Corvette, and I imagine that the 1986-1987 Regal Turbo and Grand National were just about as fast.

  • @bigblockelectra GNX 1/4 mile - 13.4 s and GN - 13.9 s so only by 1/2 a second.

  • i was thinking this exact same thing, and you just confirmed it for me...i am insanely jealous of anyone who owns a gnx...best american made car ever

  • @paulstewartcrane it's how gm is. the vette is they're golden boy thats why the fiero has room for an 8 cylinder b/c it was originally designed with an 8 in mind and would have been lighter and just as powerful as the vette so gm softened it up

  • This commercial must've came out in '84 when the first 200 hp Grand national came out.

  • Woooah! 200 horsepower!....Today's 4 cylinder cars such as the Saturn Aura have that, but they're WAY slower than this beast even though they're much lighter.

Either today's cars overestimate horsepower or they underestimated it back in 1987. If this car was sold today they'd be claiming 360-400 horsepower.

  • i don't know what year this was made, but it wasn't at the peak of the buick turbo.

  • you're forgetting about torque/power band, also, 200 was probably an underestimate, domestic manufacturers usually underrate the most powerful cars in their lineup for insurance reasons.

  • 200 was a lot back then lol imagine that. This commercial is prolly from 85 cuz the 86 had 235 hp and 87 had 245, the GNX was rated 276 but people have tested it over 300 hp

  • They're badass but I hate how people talk about how this and that was underrated.

  • U mean the Horsepower rating? Or juss cars in general

  • cars in general

  • that was a 84/85 "hot air" car. intercooling in 86/87 made ALL the difference . lots of torque

  • @mastermann it probably has to do with how it was geared also. The 1987 GN had more than 200 HP, more like 225. The GNX in 1987 had like 250-275. The Forst GN in 1984 had 175 HP I think. Dont forget between 1974 and 1984 any car that had 175hp or more was a muscle car. Even Corvettes between 1974-82 didnt have more than 200 HP

  • @mastermann

LOL. I suggest you try a gnx before you say that .. they are the most underrated car ever, they rated them so low for insurance purposes ..

  • @mastermann

true 200 hp is not much but they do not mention the torque that turbo charged and inter cooled V6 could put out,way more than most 4 cylinders could, turbo or non turbo.the Grand National gave a lot of mid 80's Corvettes and Camaros fits.5 speed 5.0 Mustangs were a menace and it often came down to the better driver in the two cars.

  • so korny

  • It's the Grand National, it doesn't give a shit if it's commercial is corny or not... It's still going to kick your ass.

  • cool

  • sweet

  • FLIPPIN AWESOME!!!

  • God i remember this commercial!! thanks for the upload!! baddest car on the streets in 1987.

  • Awesome.

  • nice

  • Classic. Thanks for upload it.
