just saw this movie yesterday and it's terrific, absolutely beautifully shot and terrific acting. This sounds like blasphemy but I liked it even more than the original, this film truly is a work of ART. Herzog and Kinski are/were geniuses.
Werner Herzog's Nosferatu is even better than FW Murnau's version. Imagine what he could do with Fritz Lang's Metropolis, another early masterpiece of German Expressionism.
mejor adaptacion de dracula, aunque se llame nosferatu, era pensado como una adaptacion de la novela, me parece mejor que la pelicula de coppola, pues esta si se centra en el miedo
@AClukeX1 according to wikipedia there itsn't no definitive meaning of the word nosferatu even though some speculate that it is Romanian for vampire, but again according to wikipedia it does not have any corresponding word in the Romainian language
@stretch4859 It could be a corrupted version of the Greek word nosophoros, meaning plague-bearer. That is the explanation I have been given, and it sounds OK plausible to me.
@ZolotayaKoshka You're correct. Count Orlock was meant to represent the Plague, which is why he has so many features that seem rat-like rather than bat-like. That's at least the case in Murnau's original intent, I assume this newer film carried some of the original film's message.
I've actually heard that Dracula (1931) was meant to represent the looming Depression, which can be loosely believable! ^_^;; Interesting what you learn in these film analysis lecture classes in college...
@Circletwice This is one of the very few remakes that is REALLY good. To me, as good as the 1922 version, seriously. This is a remake that is really did justice to the original movie and I will have to agree this movie is unlike any other Dracula films (alone with the original version of course). Far superior to Lugosi and Oldman's interpretations.
What exactly does Nosferatu mean. At first I thought that was the vampire's name according to a few other sources. Now I hear people constantly calling him Orlok. Somebody please answer my question.
@velocikiller13 im pretty sure Nosferatu means vampire in german. his name is Count Orlok just like Count Dracula but the only difference is of course his name isnt the title of the movie.
NOSFERTU RULES!! Check this absolutely BRILLIANT music video from Hard rock band Prelude to June featuring original NOSFERATU footage aswell as footage re-shot in modern times. It really rocks and so does the band...... Check it out...
@Dedamn666 You got that right. I'm gonna see Gary in October when he comes to Philly. Klaus is my favorite actor, and Gary one of my favorite musicians.
GHI TEAM WENT TO THAT LOCATION IN SLOVAKIA I THINK AND DID AN IVESTIGATION THERE AND CAUGHT REAL GHOST EVPS AND THERMAL SWEEPS AND EVEN NORMAL HD CAMS CAUGHT EVPS ! THAT PLACE IS A ONE HELL OF HORRIBLE HISTORY AND EACH PLACE IS FROM DIFFERENT CENTURIES ALSO EACH PLACE HAS ITS OWN HISTROY ALSO ITS A CASTLE IF ANYONE DOES NOT KNOW !
The '79 Hertzog Nosferatu has an incredible closing shot of Harker riding out on horseback across a barren plane. I can't seem find any compilation vids. around YouTube that include this fantastic image. Anyone else seen one with that final image included?
I've seen the original and Shadow of the Vampire, but I've never seen this remake. The poster kicks ass though and I got it hanging in my room. I need to see this movie.:-)
I've seen this film a night, with a thunderstorm...It was a scary and evocative coincidence...and the film a work of expressionist art...I advice to you all moviegoers to see this movie...
This is a very good film. Describing it is hard--it's like a horror art-film. Very moody almost like a dream. The score is haunting and the cinematography excellent. A lot of themes and sub themes in this movie add to its richness. A lot of symbolism in this movie too.
Of course not as good as the Hammer Studio films which predated it, nor as good as "Shadow of the Vampire". Still, pretty damned good in its day and better than 99% of the crap which is passed off for horror these days.
I have seen a docu on Klaus`son doing the Nosferatu incarnation. Klaus is unparalleled at fitzcaraldo and Aguire. But his son made me really feel watching an incarnation of a genuine vampire, absolutely demonic
The only movie that has ever managed to place fear in my heart. Seriously, I am not easily scared, but this one...man, it gives me the creeps just to think about it.
great movie the music sets the tone for the whole movie i have it one of the best vampir movies ever made

I like the dark background on that movie with the face of Nosferatu. Scary. Are you sure this location was the same place in 1922?

The best Dracula movie in my opinion was the first one Hammer Studios made. This film was alright but it certainly wasn't Nosferatu 1922.
