I'm writing a research paper where I emphasize and analyze the strengths of Chávez's leadership, and what made them "tick". As I do the research, my admiration and respect for the man increases each time I read his thoughts and see his speeches.
Today we went to National Chavez center in remebering of he's birthday, we help clean out the old hospital by throwing all the papers in the recycle trash, it took us like about an hour and a half, we found most of he's christmas cards, and it was extually fun their...
im just sitting here reading all these comments and i cannot stop laughing. you all obviously respect the man for what he did in his life. but it seems none of you are following his ideologies especially when it comes to respecting eachother. most of you guys cant even make a comment to eachother without fighting and calling names.grow up please. we are getting nowhere by doing this to eachother.each one of us is a peice of the puzzle and we need to work together to create the bigger picture.
You people who are arguing on this page are disrespecting the memory of the good Sr. (Or Mr. depending on your persuasion) Chavez. He devoted his life to fairness and equality, not just for Latinos, but for any farmworker, for all people. To disrespect that is to disrespect the very idea of life itself.
thanks for posting this video. it's quite amazing to hear Cesar Chavez speak, especially about the "basis for peace" -- "being kind to ALL creatures"!
Not only did he did speak out against the Mexican invasion before Congress, not only did UFW members monitor the US-Mexico border à la the Minutemen, but Chavez even sicced la migra on the undocumented from time to time. The curious case of Chavez and his evolving views on illegal immigration is best explained in University of California, Sn Diego professor David G. Gutierrez's 1995 book, Walls and Mirrors: Mexican Americans, Mexican Immigrants, and the Politics of Ethnicity.
I have nothing but respect for this man. For what he did for the Raza. Thank you to who ever posted this video. My parents told me many stories of him and i've always wanted to hear one of his speeches.
FUCK ALL YOU RACISTS... My Grandfather and my Stepfather worked along side Cesar Chavez. They tought me what it meens to earn a dollar with out complaining, unlike some of these rich white pendejos.
solanadoc... shut up. you're not a revolutionary activists who fought for rights for fellow human beings, thats why you dont have a national holiday ling ling!
I will take care of abandoned animals around me as Cesar Chavez said.<<<== Just make sure you given them a good life.. Don't just horde them okay.. But good for you for helping animals out
Sr. Chavez had lived here in the city of Delano California. They had just made a new school here in Delano.I'm very greatful what he had done for the rights of ppl!!!!!
Yeah...the criminal justice system that during Cesar Chavez' time exemplified racial profiling, and minority targeting. Im sure he probably was arrested once or many other times based on his skin color. After all, your comment only implicates your lack of history and tells me your skin color. Oh yeaj, your people were scared of him because HE SPOKE THE TRUTH!!!
does anyone know where i can find the picture of cesar chaves getting arrested because i cant find it for shit because people only want pictures of cesar chaves doing good stuff like hes god or something
I don't understand your argument solanadoc. Cesar Chavez was a great man and he's never done anything but be a good man. I am glad that you were able to succeed and graduate college but who cares what relatives think. It's not like Cesar wanted a holiday named after himself but he was dedicated to a great cause and I respect him for that. Heroes come in many forms :)
My grandfather piloted the boat in typhoon seas to escape from Vietnam for me to come to America. My relatives ardent wish for me is to graduate from a reputable college. My g/father did not die in vain for me to work as a poor farm worker or worst a gas attendent. To honor my grandfather and my other relatives I had to study hard to become an engineer. Not only to honor my parents/relatives but to honor the USA, because being a citizen is a not a right, it is a privilege.
Cesar Chavez represents the ideal political figure and the fact that he could have continued his education and surpassed that of a gas attendant, he didn't. He put his own interests aside to advocate for many others. It is ignorant to believe that the meaning of "life" is founded on the literal or material level. We put family first! It's true to be privileged as a citizen, but also to voice our democracy; constructs we still appreciate today because of heroes like Cesar Chavez. "SI SE PUEDE"
Cesar Chavez a hero?!? Are your kidding me? I am a Vietnamese American, as a boat refugee, I came to the United States when I was 17 years old and had to learn English to work at a gas station, to help pay for college and I graduated from UCSD as an Electrical Engineer. If my relatives back back in Vietnam knew that I was still working at a gas station and that they made a national holiday for me, they would laugh and my relatives here would think i am an idiot!!!
@feedthedoggies Sorry maggot...cancer doesn't run in my family, so good luck with that. You pathetic turds wouldn't be here if our ancestors didn't eat other animals, so go fuck yourself while I go and enjoy my rare steak, you low-life piece of shit.

solanadoc..what school did you graduate from.?
You don't sound like an engineer. An educated man( especially an engineer) would do a little more research before he would speak ill
of others. I challenge you to do some investigating. Chavez helped thousands of poor
people..including me (a mexican american engineer).

Comparing animals to humans...um, okay. As Maddox says, "for every animal you don't eat, I'm going to eat three."
