  • ah well, you may do it with a well aimed shot of a .577 but if you'll note the pistole is not aimed and was in actuality a .44 or .45... my guess is that with the slack her neck would have broke from the blunt trauma of the horse movement and the ropes sudden taunt...

  • I thought the video was about an actual horse being hanged

  • My appologies dibert1, I meant to say Sticking90 is the one disagreeing the point.

  • I take it back, she doesn't draw her gun, she takes "careful aim"..That is one supernatural blast????

  • Could be maybe a small explosive inserted in the rope? I don't know. However I am interested in effects like this.

  • You know, really this scene was well executed...and I don't mean that as a pun...but it is interesting how they did it. I know that it is pretty far out there that she could draw a gun and shear the rope with a shot. Still, they make it look like she did. It is shot far enough away that you can't see the rope is actually attached a harness, not around actress..or stunt lady's neck, but still. How was the rope sheared??

  • Good on yer lass!

  • i think, just let her die.. why he has to save her..?

    see her feet stop kicking..

  • Myth busters proved that this is not possible

  • @Stickings90 In "the Good the bad& the Ugly", Clint Eastwood's character shot out hangman's ropes

  • @delbard1 But that was the movies!! Mythbusters from Discovery channel tried it out for real, with a dummy being hanged obviously and even with a sharp shooter or right next to the rope it was proved not possible in the real world when trying to recreate the substance of this Hollwood myth.

  • @Stickings90 To be factual "The Good, Bad & Ugly" (Wah Wah Wah), was made by Segio Leone (An Italian), his movies were dubbed "Spaghetti Westerns".

  • @delbard1 cool! I'm not the only one who makes the wah wah wah sound after I say "The Good, bad and ugly" tittle! Thumbs up!

  • @Stickings90 Well, mythbusters did not manage to hit a thrown dollar in flight, and yet there are many shooters who can do that. I myself once put a ten cent piece at a distance of 300 yards and holed it first shot with a .223 in a Steyr Scout Rifle.

  • @barliman2001 Heres a question then my sharp shooting friend. Can you or do you know anyone who could split stretched rope in two with a single shot? As delbard1 doesn't think it is possible. Personally, I don't trust the Discovery Channel, or the History Channel for that manner.

  • @wiseguymaybe Hello, wiseguymaybe; I've just returned from the range where I tried out the whole thing with the following set-up: A half-inch hemp rope (good manilla) knotted into a loop round a beam above, and the whole weighted with an old oil-drum filled with 80 litres of water. And if you then use a contemporary gun (I used a Martini-Henry in .577 at 50 yards) the rope will be so severely damaged that it will break under the strain. And it's even easier if you shoot the loop on the beam...

  • @barliman2001 I will put the video up as soon as possible.

And remember when Mythbusters wanted to cut down a tree with machine gun fire? They did not manage it, even with a minigun. And a team of British experts just went out into a wood with a WWI Vickers machine gun and did it. The video is here on youtube.

  • @barliman2001 Interesting. A Martini-Henry rifle is indeed a contemporary gun and very much available in the late 1800. So IT CAN BE DONE delbard1. Don't believe everything you see on televison. And by the way, thanks barliman2001. I would have said not to go to that much trouble to prove a point....but I think you enjoyed yourself on that shooting range.

  • @wiseguymaybe video will be on youtube within a day or two - including an explanation of the setup. You know - Mythbusters regularly make one or more of the following mistakes:

1 They don't take the correct materials

    2. They take modern weapons

    3. They don't research. TBC

  • @barliman2001 I would indeed be interested in seeing your video and it's results.

  • @wiseguymaybe As I said - the video will be online in a few days. I'm on a business trip just now and can't attend to it, but it will be done soon.

  • Auf dieses Video antworten... Actually, the myth of the shot-through rope is no Hollywood invention. It has its roots in an incident during the Civl War, when a guy was mistaken for another and to be hanged. He was on the ladder, when a messenger arrived with the news that the real culprit had been arrested. He could not reach the gallows in time, so he took his Shiloh-Sharps and shot through the rope to gain time to deliver his message. See report in the St. Louis Times.
