dont hurt your horse hes tring everything to please you and the only thing YOU do is WHIP him and SHOUT at him, they are not humans but they are still animals who need love. THEY ARE NOT TOOLS!!!!!!!
everyone is freaking out about this guy hitting his horse too much. if you know anything about horse racing, horses get cropped as encouragement, not as abuse. from what i saw, he only hit his horse a few times. jockeys often wave their crops by the horse's eye as encouragement, or will sometimes tap between the ears which he only did a couple of times. this is breezing the horse to reach its maximum speed within a certain distant. maybe everyone should watch more horse racing before judging.
In a few years, this poor thing will be pretty well handicapped just like any athlete over training, only horses do not not have that choice.. One reason why I am really against racing. Better to do a sport that has lower impact on the physical health of the animal.
Seriously? This is just cruel! You shouldn't force your horse to go so fast.. And whipping them that much isn't gonna earn much trust.. To much speed can make your horses heart rate go way to high, therefore causing a heart attack, i suggest you treat your horse with more respect..
Guys, stop verbally being mean to the jockey. you only see a small portion of the head, the horse could be bucking or kicking as it ran, and the jockey was reprimanding it.
cruel cruel cruel.... .why would you yell a your horse and beat him with a whip? the horse is going as fast as i can! dont push it to where its gonna die! calm down dude!
A large majority of the dislikes are proving how cruel this is. Seriously, whipping a horse like this won't get you anywhere. I don't feel you deserve a to ride this beautiful creature. ever taken into account that you can only push a horse so hard?
Hey When I saw the video of zenyatta's workout her jocky didn't use the crop once. He just talked to her and then she would really take off. Just type Zenyatta working and there will b a helmet cam video. Her jockey knows how work with a horse to get results. It's called FRIENDSHIP. I promise the horse will run much better if you simply ask him for speed rather than whip him.
Guys, this guy is doing his job right. That is what a jockey does. Hes not hurting the horse at all, because if he was, the horse would take off bucking. Please dont say that people dont know what they are doing when they really are. This guy is a good jockey, hes getting the horse to work, which is his job. They run them horses into the dirt, its a part of horse racing.
@Horsegirl236 Your comment about the horse "wanting" to do this cause it would otherwise buck the rider off shows you don't know anything about the way horses are trained. You are also putting the responsibility on the horse - who, according to you - apparently allows this treatment; rather than on the rider (you know, the one who is actually holding the whip). This is an ignorant approach - and again - it show's how little knowledge you possess on the subject and in general.
All ya'll chill. They use the whip to guide the horse. The bits they use dont do much steering wise. So chill about the whip. I love horse to death but this is how it's been for years so unless you want them using nasty wire bits chill your beans.
I think that if you let him have his head and teach him to responed to more verbale comandes (clicking, kissing) and use the whip less you'll find that you have a faster, more calm horse.
you guys don't necessarily know the situation or how the horse was trained, what they are trying to accomplish, don't be so quick to judge. I love horses as much as the next person, but quick judgments make you all seem like stuck up, know it all bitches.
I have nothing against racing (I have a racing horse on my own). But Hey It´s only training dont hit the poor animal so many times! Dont look forward to enter a race cause (at least in my country?) it´s only allowed to use the stick 3 times (maximun).
Wth the reason your horse apparently wasn't going fast enough for you was bcs you were holding his head back.!!! Let him stretch out, then he'll go even faster.!
@Followthatdot ahaha it doesn't hurt the horse, it just tells them to move. Usually riders use then to say to the horse "stop being stupid and move". but (: unless you hit the horse with a lot of force, it wont hurt.

@BillyCatatonic Das macht dem Pferd nichts sie sind das doch gewohnt und außerdem spielt es mit den Ohren dass heißt es ist aufmerksam und relativ entspannt. Das ist keine Quälerei !
@SaddleAnddJazzShoes Most jockeys have a pad on their whips which milds the whip hit very much if the horse ever happened to get whipped. In every other way, the jockey just whips it at his riding boot in front of the horses' eye so that the horse can see it, driving him faster towards his and the jockeys' goal.
So he barely whipped the horse at all after what I know. :3
@Elmomix1 They hit the horse to make them go faster and the wouldn't hit them unless they knew the horse was doing it's very best. Some horses don't try so you have to push them. I use a crop on my horse. What's so bad about that??
@HorseLuver178 It's not bad if it is used as a popper, a reminder, to push them on, but I have seen jockeys use the whip very hard, which would cause pain, and I don't agree with that. You usually see it toward the end of the race, when you can tell a horse is spent and has no more to give, and the jockey doesn't want to lose.
jockeys are so lucky that their horses dont simply start bucking them off when they start hitting them hard with the whip. thats really the only thing i dont like about racing...making it painful, although the horse should love to run like this. I dont think its fun for a racehorse to run anymore if it gets a spank on its ass every 2 seconds. nice job mate...
@schneggilein89 The whips (In the UK) are no more than a ribbon now, very flexible that it's very unlikely the horse actually feels it. A lot of the time now they're doing it more so the horse can see the whip and think "Okay, now's the time to run fast"
@IAmADalek oh really? i didnt know =) if you say so, well then it's okay =)) i do the same thing with my horse...when i ride him dressage, i NEVER use the whip. but i HAVE it. just in case...^^ so he knows if he's fooling me or making fun of me, he'll get a tiny little smack on his cute little ass. but i never spank him with it. he hates that and will only start bucking.
@schneggilein89 It's just the same, but at such a fast pace, it looks like the Jockey is beating the hell out of the horse. What I don't like about Racing is they are started so young. At 2 years old they're not physically mature enough, mentally mature and are still foal-ish. Their joints aren't good enough and the pressure is immense, especially on Steeplechasers. :(
@IAmADalek oh yeah, another thing i forgot to mention that i hate....that theyre still babies. i think this is why the worlds bestest fastes racehorse (ruffian) died, her right front leg snapped in half right on the track when she was just 3 years old T_T
The horse in any case. If you are capable enough of riding and are light enough, why not try a workout canter for yourself? You will need 3 days until you've recovered from that, even if it was just a quiet training gallop. Jockeys are among the fittest athletes. Tested by universities. Nothing is as it looks.
My grandad trained the famous race horse Humberside Lady - he was also a jockey but died of cancer :( but I still look after his horses with my nan :)
@adwwghoost watch your mouth. If the horse haven't loved it, then the horse would't run. But you see, the horse runs in good way, because he or she loves it. Go and play in the highway, jerk.
@LoveHorsesAndPonnies Haha tror du att hästen har någon annat val än att springa eller ? Om den inte springer skickas den väl till slakt för att ni tycker att den är värdelös
@1233Maya I took my appy out on the track at my local fairgrounds while there for a horse show after hours. It was awesome! My horse seemed to know it was a safe place to run and he really flew! Got in trouble for it the next day, but it was worth it!
@Miss65boo lol I know a track that i could go to but it would be a 4 mile trial ride threw the woods and alot more if we walked on the road. but even if we walked all the way there the guy doesnt like people useing his ring so we would have to be quite and my friends horse would be pretty tired from keeping up with my horse.
@1233Maya I would imagine most horses would be tired out after a four mile walk and then running full out on a track. Your horse would need to be in good shape as well as your friend's horse. Plus you have a four mile walk back.
Is this a private track? Where I went was at the fair grounds and was a public track.
@Miss65boo yeah, my horse probly wouldnt make it around the whole track maybe down on side... My friends horse is a barrel horse but he's like 25 sooo he gets out of breath pretty easy. Yes its privte, I'd have to walk by a NO TREASPASING sign. The guy doesnt race or train on it anymore but he doesnt want anyone to use it : / and he also lets is dogs out if our horses even put one inch of hoof on his lawn... witch is veryy helpful if your horse is spookig and he's afraid of dogs -_-
@1233Maya He doesn't sound like a very nice person. Probably doesn't want people to use his track because of the liability if someone gets hurt, but to turn his dogs out on horses and riders is going too far! Sheesh!
@Miss65boo ikr he said he'd call the cops and my friend stoped about a foot from his yard and said DO IT sooo he let his dogs out and ran half way out before he turned and let th dogs out so my horse got suprized by his running then the dogs ran at him cuz they are hunting dogs witch made him trot away and the dogs chased him and they guy just laughed untill my friends horse kicked one of the dogs... but it was fine that i was tryin to hold my horse back and almost fell off
@1233Maya Glad to hear neither horse nor rider was hurt. It could have turned in to a bad situation. I read once of a horse that was attacked by a pit bull (or bull terrier, I'm not sure) and it tore in to the horse's leg, just above the hock, then grabbed it by the nose. The horse owner couldn't get near enough to help until her horse stopped, dog gripping it's nose, and looked to her for help. The dog's owner paid the vet bill, the horse had hundreds of stitches. Be careful!
@Miss65boo ....really, as the horse a black Morgan named Morgan? if she was then she is fine now i saw her at the last show shes bad at barrels but shes pretty fast for an old girl :) and the dogs owner didnt pay.... he shot the dog that was it and the dog was a pit bull and his owners kids loved him alot... i thought he was pretty kool to, He was HUGE and very hansom.
@Miss65boo also if it is the same horse she didnt run any where from what my mom told me she tryed to rear but couldnt do it and fell to her knees leting th dog have his way with her beause she was about 27 and fighting a dog that size and wining wasnt really posable for her at the moment.
@Miss65boo but yeah he's just lovely to b around.... he also hit on my friends sis and she was 15 at the time it was really funny he was like "hello there gud lookin" and she looked at me and was like "canter, canter, canter now or i will leave u for him!" lol
@Miss65boo but yeah he's just lovely to b around.... he also hit on my friends sis and she was 15 at the time it was really funny he was like "hello there gud lookin" and she looked at me and was like "canter, canter, canter now or i will leave u for him!" lol

I remember the first time I ever galloped a horse. It was the most amazing feeling I'd ever experienced. I can't imagine what it must be like to do it for a living!
I work with racehorses. they are indeed different to work with then a normal warmblood. you need to keep in mind you are working with a thoroughbred, who are more sensitive and alert then a warmblood.
giving legs to a thoroughbred who doesn't know that will only get spooked, which places you in a dangerous situation.
keep in mind that a horse is still an animal that shall run in a dangerous situation that rather fight. these horses are trained on that instinct to run.
Not cool at all. Horse racing is one of the cruelest exploits of horses there is. I agree with Sugerpop105's comment. You can see this horse is trying to run....I have never met an off track horse that is right in the head or in the body. All the ones I have known have been traumatized while racing. It should be outlawed.
@valeriemci1 Not all of them are traumatized. Horse Racing can be dangerous, but the the reason why the jockey is pushing the horse is so he can build endurance and stamina and get faster. Also note he didn't whip the horse he only showed him it to push him. Although I do agree some people are only in the business for money, so they push the horse, sometimes into danger such as injuries and even sometimes death. I am training to be a jockey, I have a racer but we only do it for fon not money.
@valeriemci1 Never met a racehorse that is right in the head?
Well sorry to prove you wrong, However I have a racehorse who just happens to be right in the head and body.
You wouldnt have a CLUE what goes on behind the scenes. Yes, some people do push the horse to far and in it for the money. But i know plenty of trainers who care indescribably for there horses.
Some horses LOVE racing. I should know, I do track work and just starting my racing career.
@AmyAndGold I don't agree that all race horses aren't right in the head...but as far as what goes on behind the scenes...a lot of it isn't pretty. I wouldn't have a problem if I didn't know (from rescuing) just how many horses end up in slaughterhouses after they can no longer race. I also don't like the fact that these horses are fed an enormous amount of grain and then locked up in a stall 24/7 (besides when they're racing.) Those are the things that I don't care for.
@AmberElaine0824 most racehorses actually get jogged several times a week if not every day on the track, depending on their health of course. Some racetrack stable areas have big patches of grass where the horses can graze.
@futurejockey8 Yeah, but they still don't get to be horses. So many of the horses we rescue have never been around other horses. At least not to where they could actually contact. They're awkward in herd situations and the smallest things freak them out, because they have almost no experience outside of a barn or track. Simple things like squirrels and dogs make them go insane. It's just not something I'm a fan of. My horses are outside all the time unless there is bad weather. It's just natural
@AmberElaine0824 where do those horses come from? (if you know) Like what tracks/states/countries? I've worked with a lot of ex-racehorses from Mexico (which can be waaaay more disgusting behind the scenes than in America) and they honestly didn't have many social problems. Of course they had to be retrained to whatever style of riding they were getting into, but the training is the only thing I've seen trainers struggle with when working with ex-racers.
@futurejockey8 They all came from the US, pretty much all around the country. We have a great trainer that works with them, and they're all coming around nicely, but every little thing got to them when they first came. Most of them were picked up in NY on their way to Canada to be slaughtered.
@AmberElaine0824 nice! I am happy that you do what you do. I love the sport, I will until I die, but I agree that we are overbreeding and that the sport has become disgusting in some aspects.
@futurejockey8 Thank you. I really appreciate it :) I would enjoy the sport, if it were better regulated. I saw a video just the other day of a horse that was found rotting outside of an illegal slaughter farm in Florida, and of course it had a lip tattoo. It just sickens me. We're trying to start a free euthanasia program for unwanted ex-racers so they don't suffer the same fate. There just aren't enough rescues out there. I wish you luck in the sport, I hope that you are a voice for the horses
@AmberElaine0824 Florida? really? I know the slaughterhouse was illegal but still, it's disgusting to have slaughterhouses anywhere, especially in America. Thank you so much :) If standards in racing worsen, I will definitely protest as a jockey, especially by refusing to ride 2-year-olds who do not have enough development in their bone structures to race.
@futurejockey8 It makes me so happy to hear that coming from a jockey! Thank you for caring. Yes, there are A LOT of illegal slaughterhouses in Florida. If you get a chance, check out the Animal Recovery Mission site. You can also find them on Facebook. There is a lot of good information about it on there. Also, I love that you mentioned that about riding young horses. Many of the horses we get have arthritis and other joint problems, even some beginning as young as 5 years old.
Not all jockeys like horses the just do it cause the can and are light enough. and i dnt beleive in what you said Lollista there has been reasent test saying that wips dnt do any thing at all it mosty how good the horse is and who is riding.
From the horses ears and general movement, it looks like the horse is terrified of the rider. I know that often the horses are abused - ive been to many racing yards and i have only met 1 horse so far that hasnt been ridiculously headshy, or generally very nervous if you go to stroke them or go in their stable. I really dont agree with it all, it isnt so much about the horses, its about the money.
@luucciii123 not every horse runs with his ears forward cause of the wind. but yes you are right but sometimes the horses enjoy it not every horse hates it.
@luucciii123 Yeah, because horses are flight animals, people use fear as a tool to get them to run faster. No race horse (or VERY few) acctuly enjoys racing :/, Their pushed by fear alone.
@iloilaetlolo Quite a few of them enjoy galloping (ive ridden ex racehorses and they love galloping around) but if i carry a whip they are ridiculous (even if its just in the school and not used at all), tacking up/going in stable generally isnt too fun either.
@Ebreanne how can you say that. you cant paint all jockeys with the same paint. and if you dont like jockeys y did you bother commenting or even watching the vid
haha when you are on the race track in the morning the riders go the wrong way somtime and go the right way sometime i am just learning how to gallope im fourteen i gallop horses th wrong way untill i get better so they wont run of with me haha
jockeys have to use the whip alternating between 'showing' the whip to the horse i.e flashing it near the eyes, kneading the hands up and down the neck, and the actual tap on the hind quarters. They don't just whip them all the time.
A good horse rider knows that a jockey's stirrup length prevent him from pushing the horse with his feet, like we casual riders do, the whip is a tool and if used corrently only gives urge. There are rules in the racing industry about the strength and duration of whip use. Stop telling the man how to do his job, he probably loves horses just as much as you do!!!!!
i wanna kill you!

@Elmomix1 They hit the horse to make them go faster and the wouldn't hit them unless they knew the horse was doing it's very best. Some horses don't try so you have to push them. I use a crop on my horse. What's so bad about that??
HorseLuver178 2 months ago
@HorseLuver178 It's not bad if it is used as a popper, a reminder, to push them on, but I have seen jockeys use the whip very hard, which would cause pain, and I don't agree with that. You usually see it toward the end of the race, when you can tell a horse is spent and has no more to give, and the jockey doesn't want to lose.

cool video. but i dont like it when you use the whip...T_T
schneggilein89 3 months ago
jockeys are so lucky that their horses dont simply start bucking them off when they start hitting them hard with the whip. thats really the only thing i dont like about racing...making it painful, although the horse should love to run like this. I dont think its fun for a racehorse to run anymore if it gets a spank on its ass every 2 seconds. nice job mate...
schneggilein89 3 months ago
@schneggilein89 The whips (In the UK) are no more than a ribbon now, very flexible that it's very unlikely the horse actually feels it. A lot of the time now they're doing it more so the horse can see the whip and think "Okay, now's the time to run fast"
IAmADalek 2 months ago
@IAmADalek oh really? i didnt know =) if you say so, well then it's okay =)) i do the same thing with my horse...when i ride him dressage, i NEVER use the whip. but i HAVE it. just in case...^^ so he knows if he's fooling me or making fun of me, he'll get a tiny little smack on his cute little ass. but i never spank him with it. he hates that and will only start bucking.
schneggilein89 2 months ago
@schneggilein89 It's just the same, but at such a fast pace, it looks like the Jockey is beating the hell out of the horse. What I don't like about Racing is they are started so young. At 2 years old they're not physically mature enough, mentally mature and are still foal-ish. Their joints aren't good enough and the pressure is immense, especially on Steeplechasers. :(
IAmADalek 2 months ago
@IAmADalek oh yeah, another thing i forgot to mention that i hate....that theyre still babies. i think this is why the worlds bestest fastes racehorse (ruffian) died, her right front leg snapped in half right on the track when she was just 3 years old T_T

Jockey in action?? HORSE in action!
Seelenfeuer666 3 months ago 3
@Seelenfeuer666
The horse in any case. If you are capable enough of riding and are light enough, why not try a workout canter for yourself? You will need 3 days until you've recovered from that, even if it was just a quiet training gallop. Jockeys are among the fittest athletes. Tested by universities. Nothing is as it looks.

@1233Maya I took my appy out on the track at my local fairgrounds while there for a horse show after hours. It was awesome! My horse seemed to know it was a safe place to run and he really flew! Got in trouble for it the next day, but it was worth it!
Miss65boo 2 months ago
@Miss65boo lol I know a track that i could go to but it would be a 4 mile trial ride threw the woods and alot more if we walked on the road. but even if we walked all the way there the guy doesnt like people useing his ring so we would have to be quite and my friends horse would be pretty tired from keeping up with my horse.
1233Maya 2 months ago
@1233Maya I would imagine most horses would be tired out after a four mile walk and then running full out on a track. Your horse would need to be in good shape as well as your friend's horse. Plus you have a four mile walk back.
Is this a private track? Where I went was at the fair grounds and was a public track.
Miss65boo 2 months ago
@Miss65boo yeah, my horse probly wouldnt make it around the whole track maybe down on side... My friends horse is a barrel horse but he's like 25 sooo he gets out of breath pretty easy. Yes its privte, I'd have to walk by a NO TREASPASING sign. The guy doesnt race or train on it anymore but he doesnt want anyone to use it : / and he also lets is dogs out if our horses even put one inch of hoof on his lawn... witch is veryy helpful if your horse is spookig and he's afraid of dogs -_-
1233Maya 2 months ago
@1233Maya He doesn't sound like a very nice person. Probably doesn't want people to use his track because of the liability if someone gets hurt, but to turn his dogs out on horses and riders is going too far! Sheesh!
Miss65boo 2 months ago
@Miss65boo ikr he said he'd call the cops and my friend stoped about a foot from his yard and said DO IT sooo he let his dogs out and ran half way out before he turned and let th dogs out so my horse got suprized by his running then the dogs ran at him cuz they are hunting dogs witch made him trot away and the dogs chased him and they guy just laughed untill my friends horse kicked one of the dogs... but it was fine that i was tryin to hold my horse back and almost fell off
1233Maya 2 months ago
@1233Maya Glad to hear neither horse nor rider was hurt. It could have turned in to a bad situation. I read once of a horse that was attacked by a pit bull (or bull terrier, I'm not sure) and it tore in to the horse's leg, just above the hock, then grabbed it by the nose. The horse owner couldn't get near enough to help until her horse stopped, dog gripping it's nose, and looked to her for help. The dog's owner paid the vet bill, the horse had hundreds of stitches. Be careful!
Miss65boo 2 months ago

I work with racehorses. they are indeed different to work with then a normal warmblood. you need to keep in mind you are working with a thoroughbred, who are more sensitive and alert then a warmblood.
giving legs to a thoroughbred who doesn't know that will only get spooked, which places you in a dangerous situation.
keep in mind that a horse is still an animal that shall run in a dangerous situation that rather fight. these horses are trained on that instinct to run.
and not all are messed up

Not cool at all. Horse racing is one of the cruelest exploits of horses there is. I agree with Sugerpop105's comment. You can see this horse is trying to run....I have never met an off track horse that is right in the head or in the body. All the ones I have known have been traumatized while racing. It should be outlawed.
valeriemci1 4 months ago
@valeriemci1 Not all of them are traumatized. Horse Racing can be dangerous, but the the reason why the jockey is pushing the horse is so he can build endurance and stamina and get faster. Also note he didn't whip the horse he only showed him it to push him. Although I do agree some people are only in the business for money, so they push the horse, sometimes into danger such as injuries and even sometimes death. I am training to be a jockey, I have a racer but we only do it for fon not money.
QuarterHorses007 4 months ago
@valeriemci1 Never met a racehorse that is right in the head?
Well sorry to prove you wrong, However I have a racehorse who just happens to be right in the head and body.
You wouldnt have a CLUE what goes on behind the scenes. Yes, some people do push the horse to far and in it for the money. But i know plenty of trainers who care indescribably for there horses.
Some horses LOVE racing. I should know, I do track work and just starting my racing career.
AmyAndGold 4 months ago
@AmyAndGold I don't agree that all race horses aren't right in the head...but as far as what goes on behind the scenes...a lot of it isn't pretty. I wouldn't have a problem if I didn't know (from rescuing) just how many horses end up in slaughterhouses after they can no longer race. I also don't like the fact that these horses are fed an enormous amount of grain and then locked up in a stall 24/7 (besides when they're racing.) Those are the things that I don't care for.
AmberElaine0824 4 months ago
@AmberElaine0824 most racehorses actually get jogged several times a week if not every day on the track, depending on their health of course. Some racetrack stable areas have big patches of grass where the horses can graze.
futurejockey8 3 months ago
@futurejockey8 Yeah, but they still don't get to be horses. So many of the horses we rescue have never been around other horses. At least not to where they could actually contact. They're awkward in herd situations and the smallest things freak them out, because they have almost no experience outside of a barn or track. Simple things like squirrels and dogs make them go insane. It's just not something I'm a fan of. My horses are outside all the time unless there is bad weather. It's just natural
AmberElaine0824 3 months ago
@AmberElaine0824 where do those horses come from? (if you know) Like what tracks/states/countries? I've worked with a lot of ex-racehorses from Mexico (which can be waaaay more disgusting behind the scenes than in America) and they honestly didn't have many social problems. Of course they had to be retrained to whatever style of riding they were getting into, but the training is the only thing I've seen trainers struggle with when working with ex-racers.
futurejockey8 3 months ago
@futurejockey8 They all came from the US, pretty much all around the country. We have a great trainer that works with them, and they're all coming around nicely, but every little thing got to them when they first came. Most of them were picked up in NY on their way to Canada to be slaughtered.
AmberElaine0824 3 months ago
@AmberElaine0824 nice! I am happy that you do what you do. I love the sport, I will until I die, but I agree that we are overbreeding and that the sport has become disgusting in some aspects.
futurejockey8 3 months ago
@futurejockey8 Thank you. I really appreciate it :) I would enjoy the sport, if it were better regulated. I saw a video just the other day of a horse that was found rotting outside of an illegal slaughter farm in Florida, and of course it had a lip tattoo. It just sickens me. We're trying to start a free euthanasia program for unwanted ex-racers so they don't suffer the same fate. There just aren't enough rescues out there. I wish you luck in the sport, I hope that you are a voice for the horses
AmberElaine0824 3 months ago
@AmberElaine0824 Florida? really? I know the slaughterhouse was illegal but still, it's disgusting to have slaughterhouses anywhere, especially in America. Thank you so much :) If standards in racing worsen, I will definitely protest as a jockey, especially by refusing to ride 2-year-olds who do not have enough development in their bone structures to race.
futurejockey8 3 months ago
@futurejockey8 It makes me so happy to hear that coming from a jockey! Thank you for caring. Yes, there are A LOT of illegal slaughterhouses in Florida. If you get a chance, check out the Animal Recovery Mission site. You can also find them on Facebook. There is a lot of good information about it on there. Also, I love that you mentioned that about riding young horses. Many of the horses we get have arthritis and other joint problems, even some beginning as young as 5 years old.

From the horses ears and general movement, it looks like the horse is terrified of the rider. I know that often the horses are abused - ive been to many racing yards and i have only met 1 horse so far that hasnt been ridiculously headshy, or generally very nervous if you go to stroke them or go in their stable. I really dont agree with it all, it isnt so much about the horses, its about the money.
luucciii123 7 months ago
@luucciii123 what? im a jockey, i love horses, i never think about the money!!
franrigz 7 months ago
@luucciii123 not every horse runs with his ears forward cause of the wind. but yes you are right but sometimes the horses enjoy it not every horse hates it.
naturelover222 6 months ago
@luucciii123 Yeah, because horses are flight animals, people use fear as a tool to get them to run faster. No race horse (or VERY few) acctuly enjoys racing :/, Their pushed by fear alone.
iloilaetlolo 4 months ago
@iloilaetlolo Quite a few of them enjoy galloping (ive ridden ex racehorses and they love galloping around) but if i carry a whip they are ridiculous (even if its just in the school and not used at all), tacking up/going in stable generally isnt too fun either.

jockeys have to use the whip alternating between 'showing' the whip to the horse i.e flashing it near the eyes, kneading the hands up and down the neck, and the actual tap on the hind quarters. They don't just whip them all the time.
Isobel201 1 year ago
why are standerbreds and thouroughbreds training together??? and where is this
DemonChinChilla355 1 year ago
A good horse rider knows that a jockey's stirrup length prevent him from pushing the horse with his feet, like we casual riders do, the whip is a tool and if used corrently only gives urge. There are rules in the racing industry about the strength and duration of whip use. Stop telling the man how to do his job, he probably loves horses just as much as you do!!!!!
