  • Oh please the Spitfire could never win a Pylon Race and the MX2 could never win a dogfight, it's not a fair match for either. I say build a composite Spitfire and see how that goes.

  • Spitfire one of the best ww2 fighter planes. :)

  • That merline engine is a real beut... The sound of those pistons firing up is unmistakable! *Plays IL2 combat flight sim immediately*

  • Didn't see anything other than the planes starting and a few seconds of the spit fire flying they should of showed more showed how it helped the brits win the air war sheesh

  • que bonito el spitfire

  • Just listening to the roar of that Merlin engine , makes the hairs of my arse stand up !

  • To make the comparison more complete, let's the spitfire use it's 8 machine guns on MX2 ! :)

  • Spitfire - MX2

  • Absolutely love this plane.. My grandfather and six of his brothers all flew this plane during world war 2 and all came back alive thank God

  • @LCRCBOY same but with lancasters, none of his brothers came back :(

  • @LCRCBOY Are u sure they flew Spitfire? cuz in Battle of Britain there was more Hurricanes tough.

  • actually i'm quite curios about something i just noticed, the exhaust system on the spitfire appear to be in the front, didn't the pilot have any problem with the gas filling up the cockpit?

  • British planes FTW

  • 00:57 - 01:00 = pure sex

  • To quote Jeremy Clarkson, "Possibly, just possibly, the Spitfire is the greatest machine ever made."

  • never have so many owedso much to spitfire

  • adorei,mane brazil no youtube,alomane@hotmail.com

  • here's the difference: one is a toy, the other won a World War

  • so kewl.

  • Rolls Royce Merlin engine:

    The sound of freedom!

  • @LordGeorgeRodney no its the sound of GLORY

  • @KinSmallProductions

How about a combination of both eh?

    The Rolls Royce Merlin :

    The sound of VICTORY

  • @LordGeorgeRodney now that is a hell of quote

  • I don't like to see Spitfires put at risk like this

  • @MrPes5040 Oh, I'll vote that comment up. Too many unique planes have been lost just doing air shows, never mind races, and one day the flyable Spitfire will be "unique" if it keeps up.

  • @MrPes5040 I know. There's not that many about mate...I also think that if there's not enough left 2 rebuild and restore we should actually be making new ones from scratch...Granted they'd only be replicas but they would still be 100% Spits as far as i'm concerned as long as they stick to the design like glue and use genuine Merlin power plants...What do you think??? We were talking about this in my history major.

  • @williamblair11 YES, rebuild a whole squadron

  • @williamblair11 Hi You Will need to be mind full that I am 68years old now and worked at Rolls Royce as an engineering inspector here in Filton. Bristol. UK The spitfires remaining were a common site.Saw a video on here were some fool blow a Merlin engine, having fitted to some sort of monster truck. This is history and the sites and sounds of freedom there messing up .Sorry call me an old fart if you like, but I don't approve

  • @MrPes5040 Not with Nigel Lamb, he makes the sky his bitch.

  • @Dominoes282 Sorry can't run with that. Seen to many hit the deck with so really good pilots loseing there lives.

  • @MrPes5040 why did they hit the deck?? cause they were shot to shit and still FLEW!!!! how many live did this aircraft save when they had flak in their engines? my grandfather was an engineer in ww2, and the stories he told me bout all the things this aircraft bin threw......

  • @Dominoes282 Sorry, but I can't run with that. I have seen to many hit the deck with many a good pilot killed

  • Without the Merlin engine, Hurricane, Spitfire, Lancaster, Mosquito, Mustang et al. I don't think we would be comparing the performance of an 'Extra versus a nearly antique Aircraft! (the Merlin was designed nearly 80 years ago?)

  • who cares about the race . we all know which plane is the sexiest.

  • There is no substitute for raw cubic inches short of a turbine so of course the Spitfrier wins.

  • well if this is the way technology has gone then id have the spitfire any day !! 70 years technology gap and still the spit holds its own !! just like the harrier jump jet , can the spitfire ever be matched !!?? id say no

  • @MegaTiggy In proper pylon race spit couldnt come even close new airplanes made for aerobatics flying.

  • like compairing consoles to PC not in the same ball park nice vid anyway

  • Yes bf109g

  • that little plane looks so fucking fun

  • Damn it didn't picked up my sarcasm *facepalm*

  • Aerobatic planes just got a 120~150 horse engine in it whereas the Spit has a humoungous motor in it.Straight line flight itll pull away of course but in the twisties the racers gonna lead.....

  • Thnx for this info, (but) the BF109G was the best and the beatifullst plane in the world war 2

  • No, THE Luftwaffe had better planes better technic etc: Now you!

  • @freeharddrive so that's why the luftwaffe won... oh wait.

  • @TheSleeper33 Indeed!

  • 44 people here are aces of the LUFTWAFFE!

    LUFTWAFFE THE BEST 109G YEAH!

  • @freeharddrive 5 comments on this video already! Trolled enough yet?

  • Regards from the 1./JG 53

  • BF109G was THE best!

  • @freeharddrive

    to you maybe...

  • Historical Warbird against modern Pylon Racer!

    What a bullshit!

  • My great grandpa fixed Spitfires in World War Two.

  • @corycauston very cool man, my grandpa was on AP-112 USS General Mann in the pacific.

  • Spitfire's were built in Castle Bromwich near Birmingham

  • I like the edge 540 redbull ^^

  • BF109 was better!

  • @freeharddrive incorrect

  • I'd go for the spitfire, I mean, it's a warbird!

  • I'd STILL take a "51" anyday !

  • watch see sice between the spitfire and the mx2

  • @malte8796

    What is a "sice"?

  • shoot the other one down

  • why does the mx2 smoke so much is it two stroke lol

  • spitfire is the best prop plane ever!!!!!!!!

  • @rs200000000000 Yeah, lots of ppl would agree with you. Even saying the Spitfire was the best prop fighter would be a huge stretch. p51 was probably the greatest prop fighter, mostly because it was one of the last fighters made before jet engine took over.

  • @clearlogicify in my mind there are three top contenders the hurricane, the avro lancaster and the spitfire the three main planes of world war two., today i suppose the best planes are the harrier and the eurofighter and the f18, strange britian does seem to make alot of the best planes , the Harrier jump jet the euro figher the concord, even in the war the americans fighters were powerd by biritsh engines rolls royce engines.

  • @rs200000000000 The p51 ended up using a RR engine, yes, and it's connected to Britain in other ways too. Still does no alter the fact it was simply the best prop figher due to it fixing most of the spitfire problems and it being the last and most modern prop powered fighter of WW2. The manufacturer of plane or the country that made the engine is irrelevant.

Now you go on to list completely irrelevant jet powered planes.

  • @clearlogicify its irrelevant in your mind but not everyone else's, hardly irrelevant lol i did say the best modern planes , you need to take a chill pill pal....

  • @rs200000000000 When you answer posts you like to introduce other types of plane. Never mind the post was about the best prop powered figher. You just answered with random planes, current to WW2, including passenger planes and jets. Then you give super bias opinions without any basis and completely off topic.

If you post like this, expect everyone to tell you to first, understand what is being talked about and how to respond (if you feel you should), secondly, to at least be on topic.

  • @rs200000000000 " its irrelevant in your mind but not everyone else's" - also, understand the meaning of words you try to use. You'll look a lot less retarded.

  • @clearlogicify I think rs200000000000 got the hump because Americans do tend to come along and try to compare their P-51 to the Spitty when not only was the P-51 made towards the end of the war and didn't have the same epic experience as the spitty....it used the British RR Merlin engine. What he is really taking out on you is the fact that some Americans don't give credit where it's due.

    You seem cool tho

  • @TheARMAProductions Yes, many people suffer from selective memory.

The Spitfire and Hurricane will always be iconic planes to the Brits as they helped defend/define their very identity/country. Symbols of defiance. The P51 had amazing success and helped win WW2 too, but it was simply a very function and efficient plane.

  • @clearlogicify Yeah I'm glad you saw what I meant with that. It's not so much the jet that makes it a legend but the circumstances. The P-51 should be seen as an evolution of the Spitty with all the little creases ironed out. It's just the way shit roles. The UK buys allot of kit from the US these days. YT can be a really bad place to debate with people. Allot of people here have massive E ego's :)

  • where can i watch the race??

  • my dream is to fly a spitfire someday ! Awesome plane

  • No video of the spit doing pylons? :(

  • the Godfather wants that MX2 beaten and asked me to fly the spitfire and I will

  • That plane was made in Wilkes county NC.

  • Spitfire = goose bumps every time.

  • We need more pylons!

  • Strange ccomparison with a 70 year old plane, and a state of the art plane now...

  • es muy bueno ! me gusta mucho !

  • Yes, but if the MX2 had guns....

  • @jtkent28

It would have never fly because of their weight.

    :-)

  • Comment removed

  • imagine a aerobatic one flying in ww2 with some guns on that thing would take down bombers like nothing

  • @siralexu Maybe Ju-87 Stukas. But nothing other. Every other bomber was faster. :-D

  • If we're talking straight line course with no regard to era (since the Spitfire and MX2 come from different eras), I would say the winner goes to the SR-71 Blackbird or maybe even the X-15.

  • I'd rather spend the day flying and listening to the spit than the oversized lawn mower. love the drone of the Merlin.

  • c'mon they both have + and - points... spitfire is design for combad & speed the MX2 for show & manouvre

  • mx 2 looks and sounds like a kitten compared to all mighty spitfire

  • They should make an air race edition only with WW2 fighters. I'd bet on the FW-190D.

  • @Sagramorbald straight line course goes straight to the Me 262!

great video, would love to see the full flight of the spit, merlin sounds better!

  • @kineticdeath or the P-80 =p

  • @simpsonfan13 I still put my money on the 262, much better aerodynamics and 2 engines!

  • @kineticdeath The 262 manouevred like a brick! lol Read, "Sky Spy," by RAF pilot Ray Holmes, he was the pilot who rammed a Heinkel bomber in 1940 to prevent it attacking Buckingham Palace. He later flew photo recce missions over German in MK XIX Spits. He was engaged by a 262 & he out manouevred it with ease. He used the 262's speed to his advantage, as it came in from the rear starboard quarter, he shut his throttle & entered a hard turn to starboard, the 262 overshot by a mile.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH is that where he knocked the tail off?

  • @gibbo1112 Yes. He rammed the tail of a Dornier 117 and sheered it off. The incident was filmed, the Dornier crashed into the side of Victoria station, leaving scar damage in that is visiable to this day. Holmes parachuted out-an extremely brave man. He subsequently went onto photo-recce duties. His book, "Sky Spy," is well worth a read, especially his dual with two Me 262's-he ran rings around them with the agile Spit. He was born & raised in Birkenhead, passed away about three yrs ago :(

  • some people use tuned ww2 planes in redbull air championship!

  • tally-ho!

  • i wonder how the mx2 would do against a tempest

  • Spitfire anyday!

  • I think this is an unfair race as these planes are designed for 2 totally different flying styles!!! A warbird vs a fully aerobatic aircraft, and they rigged the course with little turns so of course the spitfire will win LOL. I wanna see it try and do a proper pylon race.....see how it's not an accurate measure of performance? you just can't compare these 2 aircraft. they are both beautiful and good at what they do :D

  • @bruiserhzj

Oh come on - it was just designed to be a bit of fun. Everybody already knew the Spitfire MkIX had a higher top speed but the MX2 was far more maneuverable - it was, in a way, a celebration of the Spit's 70th anniversary of it's first production run.

  • @Merlin2Stage2Speed ohhhh yeah it looks fun alright LOL.

  • LOVE THE SOUND OF THE SPITFIRE A WOULD GO TO FIGHT THE NAZIS IN THAT WITH IRON MAIDEN ACES HIGH POUNDING IN MY EARS NO SURENDER

  • @bruiserhzj

If you take a look they set the mx on fire to make it fair. Look at the smoke.

  • Comment removed

  • @bruiserhzj like comparing a car with a tank

  • @bruiserhzj

Think they should have a dog fight, see who wins... :)

  • @bruiserhzj As he said in the video, it was just for fun.

  • @bruiserhzj Of course it was unfair.... understanding of the relative disparity was assumed...

  • When the Red Bull planes start using an adapted Aston Martin V12 then it might have competition for the Spit... but the Spit will still be way prettier.

  • I'd love to own a plane like the spitfire. There is just something about it that would complete me haha

  • the spitfire looks amazing so much better than that m2 or indeed any aircraft in my opinion , why does the mx2 smoke so much ?

  • @rs200000000000 Perhaps because the MX2 is flying SMOKE ON!!

  • @liftytim calm DOWN!!

  • @rs200000000000 I would calm down, but it's customary when talking about SMOKE being ON to write in CAPS! :)

  • 0.27 till 0.30 was a massive eargasm!

  • p-51 vs. spitfire...lets see that...thats a show

  • spitfire wins because its cooler :)

  • Nothing is greater than taking a WWII warbird into the sky and putting it through its paces. Thats a dream come true for nearly all pilots! Never seen a Spitty in action or in real life before but it sounded awesome.

  • @DimSum9685 Believe me when I say that there is nothing more enjoyable than earing a real V12 Merlin engine ^^

  • @ex59neo53 exept for hearing 4 of them

  • @tomgympie U are wrong ! More than 1 V12 Merlin is not a joy ! it's a pure eargasm :p !

  • So how many times did You replay 0:54 - 1:00?

  • the other plane looks purpose built, but Spitfire has artistic lines.

  • how can you even compair a spitfire to that piece of shit?

  • why doesn't the Spitfire have fuel injection? I have been wondering that for a while.

  • @stevenscottoddballz I saw the answer to this on the tele a few weeks ago. Apparently, at high altitude natural evaporation and carburation of petrol through a supercharger gives more pounds of boost than fuel injection does.

  • @DigbyCaballero

Thank you VERY much! I REALLY appreciate your reply!

  • The shot of MH434 flying past the white cliffs is absolutely hair-raising. What a beautiful plane.

  • The Scots could have beat the Axis, single handed, Och Aye

  • The Spitfire is the best plane ever created. That stupid new JSF can't hold a candle to it. :P

  • spitfire = the best !

  • spitfire looks and sounds wayy better :D

  • @antho836

I agree. Nice, short, and to the point non-political comment. No history lessons. No crap about who is better. They are just neat planes. The Spitfire is an awesome plane though. Beautiful machine. Now, I'll go back and read some more of these crazy comments : p

  • @antho836 I second, third forth ect,ect and on, and on and- you know where im going. i LOVE the spit.

  • @antho836 Totally agree! the Spitfire is without a doubt the most beautiful aircraft ever. And that Merlin engine sound goes straight to your gonads...

  • @antho836 i do not like this plane

  • i cant understand anything they saiud alls i can hear is bloody bloody bloody bloodybloody bloodybloody, bloody. bloody bloody bloody bloody....bloody bloodybloody bloody overexageration massive massive massive bloody bloody

  • By the way, for all of you who keep calling it USAF. The United States Air Force wasn't founded until 1947. If you want to properly discuss united states aircraft involvement, then it is called the USAAC (United States Army Air Corps)

  • @SmashedGamers After mid 1941 it was the USAAF... United States Army Air Forces...

  • Spitfire was built at the Jaguar works in Castle Bromwich Birmingham not just in Portsmouth or Southampton .

  • @wuggahumftamuf - The first, origional factory at Woolston in Southampton. Castle Bromwich was origionally the home of the Morris Motor Comapny. What was the 'Air Ministry' at that time then bought a site next to Catle Bromwich Aerodrome, mostly consisting of farm fields, and this became the replacement for the older, less efficicent factory in Southampton. You are both right. :')

  • Beautifull old girl ! I once had the pleasure of hearing and seeing her come straight at me in a dive during an airshow, that was 31 years ago and I have never forgotten that beautifull Merlin engine sound and her profile.

    Pure class

  • スピットファイアは素晴らしい戦闘機だ!

    I love Spitfire!

  • The spit looks so much cooler :-) it is after all a fighter plane, the small MX2 looks like a toy :-)

  • a privilege o fly a spitfire.

    how awesome

  • The P-51 was based on the Spitfire design.

  • @dixievfd55 Thats weird because the only thing the two aircraft (P51D) have in common is its engine. The P51 has way more in common with the P40 than any other aircraft.

  • @Icarusdecending82 You're thinking of the P-51D, but earlier models of the fighter more closely resemble the Spitfire than the P-40. Performance of the A and B models was so poor that it was relegated to recon and low altitude attack missions.

  • @dixievfd55 actually the early model mustangs were mistaken for a 109 with the square wings and birdcage canopy

  • the mx2 owns the spitfire in manouvrability but still u can't compare the two unless u have the mx2 loaded with guns and 2 worthy pilots eager to kill each other

now if someone told me to go ahead and take one home , spit it is

  • SPITFIRE ARRFF ARRRRFF ARRRFFFF ARRRRFFF AAAARRRFF

    THE PITBULL OF THE SKIES

  • Americans won the war singlehandedly

    Trollololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol

  • @ballsy101 wrong...

  • spitfire changed the war!!!!

  • Where can I see the whole racE?

  • Here we go again... just the mention of the word Spitfire, & we get WW2, Hitler, Churchill, blah blah who won the war slanging match...Nice quality and interesting video by the way Lol!

  • @cashman156 hahaha!!! you're so fucking right mate!!! too many people on the internet have too much bloody time on their hands....go outside and chop some wood you lazy bastards!!!!

  • @cashman156 :: It is no wonder that WWII keeps "bobbing up". So much was hushed down after the war when I was a kid.

I think we should show much more respect for the people who gave their lives to save EU from -ism.

  • Here's another juicy tidbit, I know you'll hate, Churchill 's famous speech, the one about fighting on the beaches, wasn't done by him , as he was too drunk as was usually the case each nite past 5pm. So, in addition to look alikes for his security, his people hired others to sound like him as well. You see the public could never know what a hopeless alcoholic he really was.

  • @germaniajim

'We shall fight them on the beaches', the speech which Churchill gave to the house of commons was recorded and you can find that recording here on YouTube. It is further evidence of Churchill's superiority over Hitler and how wrong you are. The recording shows Churchill's superior oratory skills, Hitler was only good at shouting and showed none of Churchill's subtlety or delivery, and its existance proves your findings to be innacurate.

  • @RequiemVortex buddy, do you think that my intel is heresay, or I made it up? I would bet you onethouusand dollars that Churchill did not make that speech that night, furthermore It is a fact that he was miles away dead drunk which was also told by his personal chauffeur at the time, I dont have a hate on for this guy, Im only trying to tell people the truth after the fact, It is also a fact that he forged a french painters name on copies he himself painted. Roosevelt found out via secret servic

  • Respond to this video...and telephoned churchill and said, I hope I ve not gotten you introuble with Scotland Yard over this chaps name, Of course that was Roosevelts intention as he didnot like the man.

  • fuck london looks awesome

  • thats like a ferrari verus a prius lol

  • Fuck that. F-18. SUCK ON THAT!

  • The Hawker Hurricane played a larger role in the Battle of Britain because there were more of them, but the Spitfires in the Battle of Britain had a higher success rate than the hurricanes

  • ha hmmmmmmmmmmm

  • that is the brit version but certainly not the truth, Churchill was a pos and a drunk extraordinaire, an imbecile who lost Gallopoli all on his own a total failure and in the jews pocket.

  • @germaniajim

Churchill may have drank heroically and smoked like a chimney but he was a superior war leader who utterly thrashed Hitler with his superior wit, intellect and layman's knowledge on (among other things) naval strategy and air defence. He only slept 4 hours a day during WW2 and in his retirement made 570 paintings. Despite this he died at the age of 90.

Hitler on the other hand was a failed art student with one ball and a penchant for megalomania. Also Churchill won the war.

  • @RequiemVortex Perhaps you should read the truth about that traitor instead of what they would have you believe. I know its hard to think that we've been lied to since day one
