gee, sorry to disagree, but most violinist can get a beautiful sound- where's the phrasing? it's really lacking in any in depth phrasing. if Michael Rabin were alive, then I'm sure we would hear a truly meaningful interpretation of this piece.
Chee-yun takes a piece that is about regret and a longing that does not expect fulfillment and transforms it into a conviction that our deepest feelings must and somehow will find fulfillment. There is so much warmth and intelligence in her she can't play a piece about hopelessness,... about oblivion. Her genius sees hope even in the experience of despair. I heard her play live four days ago. I was amazed to find that she is even more lovely than she seems here. A true beauty. Greg Gibbs.
@cnromusic09 Songs aren't about things, I don't think, until they are performed and heard. Chee-yun makes this dance through the moment. The Ahn trio plays the same piece and produces a lovely, but sad, song about regret and a longing that does not expect fulfillment. Both performances are wonderful renderings by beautiful women. Just because most of the notes are the same, does that make it the same song? Both interpretations tell us truths about life. I like both approaches. Greg G.
"Devi recitare la parte dell'innamorato e parlare come uno che spasima;con ogni mezzo devi ottenere che lei creda questo.E non è difficile: ogni donna pensa di meritar l'amore;sia pur bruttissima, ognuna si crede piacente.
Prometti senza timori: le promesse attraggono le donne
e di ciò che prometti chiama a testimoni tutti gli dei che vuoi.Giove dall'alto ride degli spergiuri degli amanti
Chee-yun is amazing violinist. My first favourite violinist. Couple of years ago, she played on a 1669 Francessco Ruggeri violin which she purchased during the early years of her career. She told me she still owns her beautiful Ruggerie. Currently she is playing on Stradivarius violin " ex-Strauss" of 1708 which is on a lifetime loan to her from the Samsung Cultural Foundation. She also told me its better known as the "Soil" strad...Strauss was a successful buisnessman who owned several strad

Oblivion isn't about despair. It's about how a tango dancer gives themselves over to the dance. It's about being in the moment.
