The sky diver wont die. A sonic boom is caused by the sound waves building up in front of you then you break it and boom. But sound doesnt travel without a medium and if the sound is so thin up there that it doesnt slow him down there wont be enough to cause a sonic boom. Once he hits the air he will just slow down.
