kewl idea but does not look fun, slow and takes a ridicules amount of energy to keep moving you stop you sink and i bet you cant take off once in the water to much resistance. b.t.w. i am canadian and we hate the french canadians as much as the rests of the world hates france other then them best country in the world to live in. other than the snow of course.
what a phenomenal machine that has so many hydrodynamic challenges beaten even to create propulsion with no moving parts, the designer if this revolutionary machine is my hero what a true inventor
were can I get one of these from
probably the best video I have ever seen on the tube and dont think it will ever be beaten
If some part of the vehicle touches the ground, its not true flying or hovering. This goes for all such things, including so called "hovercraft". Its hovering when nothing on it needs to touch the ground. Same for flying.
Nicely engineered! Maybe some sort of lightweight flotation material mounted at the foot level on the front arm and the rider's platform would make this a little more versatile especially in my area where we have wide deep rivers but not a lot of docks to launch from, plus you would be able to stop lol. This thing is awesome by the way.
People are amazing. Give them the right power tools, a few strips of metal, and they'll be able to propel themselves across a lake without getting wet. Makes you wonder what else people can do.
@13AJJONES your an idiot this thing is awsome and works realy well AND is available in america but honestly i think that they would be better anyway and look up nitrocircus i think that you should shut your mouth this isnt dumb or stupid and you simple havnt seen the idiocy that exists in other places in the world so shut it and learn some
do we need the damn drum banging and banging and banging and banging and banging, can't watch any more, whats wrong with you, are testing your new drum out on US !!!! idiots !!!!
see it as a water bycicle....it require more effort for less speed than a car but doesn't require carburant, only cinetic energy. same principle. "and you don't have to deconstruct and reconstruct again and again, it's as the bycicle a basic principle. by the way did you knew your comment was currently used for prime inventions, you should see the evolved form of a products not the base like comparing a cell and a full grown animal...not the same cappacity, same origins... (so say igor..
It is hard to get the hang of however you have a great laugh learning. Once you start to get going its great fun. I am trying a new model it should be out soon and hopefully if you fall of you should be able to start again from deep water.
Maybe floats on each of the vertical risers? Or perhaps a 6 to 8 inch thick foam platform under the rider just above water level. May be a little difficult starting back up though.
Looks like a lot of fun and I've been considering getting myself one for a couple of months now. But there's a one 'small' problem, I happen to weigh 128kg (280 pounds) and I was wondering whether this is too much for the waterbird (or aquaskipper, are they the same)? Has anyone with about the same bulk tried one these?
PS. No, I'm not fat, I'm tall (7') and with mesomorphic (robust) bodytype.
Your local swimming pool should have swimming lessons so learn to swim first, so either way learning to swim or using the Waterbird should keep you fit.
@pilotpa28 he does have a good point though, if you stop pumping then the entire craft will stop, right? so taking a rest is dangerous. how much is this device again?
How fast does it go & I want to see it on a wave in the surf. I will stick to jet skiing, but good if gas becomes unavailable totally, I suppose. Good Invention, it would be good training if you didn't want to mess with a jet ski everyday & had access to water. Good training.
possible, but isn't the whole point that it's human powered? It's a sport device so you use skill and fitness. Uncoordinated fat slobs have their jetskis and seadoos to haul their sweaty, lardy bulk over the water... or be towed wallowing, burger in chubby hand, on a barge.
These things are doing almost 20knots on less than 1/4 hp so you could easily power them with a line trimmer engine and model boat propellor if you were lazy.
If the foil catches on a chunk of kelp you come to a dead stop unless it is a small loose flat frond.. Human powered Hydrofoils like this rely on the extreme low drag of foils for them to work. You might catch a clip if the kelp sticks out of the water by two inches, which is the lowest height of any clip to the water surface, but the foil hitting anything that increases drag significantly will stop you straight away and in you go for a leisurely swim.
Yes, whale and dolphin tails are foil shapes and the up and down action of these combined with angle change provides forward thrust in exactly the same way. These however use the forward motion generated to create lift as well to support the weight of the rider.
The likelyhood of a clip failing on these is negligible. I haven't had a failure after years of use. Far from shore a clip is the least of your worries.
Most people can barely ride these things more than 100 ft
Exhaustion means you will stop and sink and these do not float with rider on board. They are hydrofoils and rely on fast motion to stay up. If you stop you cannot start again from the water except by relaunching back on the dock. If falling in water is a problem don't ride it at all.
yes. You will sink even if you jump hard if your technique and rhythm is wrong. They work like a whale's tail and the main foil must change angle and be driven up and down in the right sequence. If you do it wrong they will stop no matter how hard you jump.
that looks tiring and shit at the same time if im honest, my yamaha xl700 jet ski is far greater for sure (before anyone says i do have a xl700, check my videos)
