I saw this production I'm afraid to think of how many years ago and LRRidinghood was brilliant, as was the whole cast. It was simply one of the most awesome things I've ever seen in my life. I think this production was better than the Broadway version. When we get Sondheim right in the UK we get it very right. We just don't get it right all that often.
That mask is AMAZING!!!!! How on earth did they do that? And the acting is awesome! However, Little Red (how do I put this nicely) sucks. Weird voice, annoying, bad acting... the list goes on.
I think I like this wolf costume better than the Broadway one. Not because of the penis, I actually thought that was a nice sinister touch...but because...O.O the wolf looks like a perfect gentleman, does he not? "And though scary is exciting, nice is different than good."
The more of this production I see, the more I feel like it misses the point. Maybe the second act does a complete 180 in terms of mood, but this first act seems childish and stale, missing out on all the subtext. I mean, they had a penis on the wolf costume on Broadway. Ya think they were trying to say something? The show is supposed to be (ironically) adult-oriented and dark, even in the seemingly straight fairy tales of the first act.
I get to play the wolf, and we're making him look like the original wolf, but the leather jacket is a biker jacket with studds on it, and random animal pelts, and a lot of other biker/gothic accessories, so I'm very excited to portray this sort of wolf and it's a very fun party to play.
I prefer the orginal, the wolf is like a rapist and displays his junk openly, i pretty sure this one is a bit gay. Red looks and sounds like a nerd...:)
I actually prefer this Little Red to the original. She's actually acting, which I'm sorry to say the original had some problems with. I'd like to see the transformation she makes later on. One of my problems with this character in the original is that there was no real transformation after her ordeal. This sub-story is, at least in part, about the loss of innocence and I think requires seriously good acting skills.
how to make the facial features move? its probably a device in his gloves that he is controlling with his hands or in the mask when he movies his face...u know what to be honest the more i look at it, it seems to look machanical. maybe robotic or something. but its really amazing
@abguard515 I know what they done here is amazing. I was also wondering if they had someone controlling his mask with some kind a of remote controller and if the guy playing the wolf is even singing at all? LOL Maybe he is lip syncing Mechanical style?!!!!!!!!
Little Red is too old and kinda annoying. But the wolf- WOW! That mask is so cool! Little Red is the worst at 2:23. UGH! But the wolf is amazing. I love the mask.
as far as I know, these three videos are the only ones that were shown on the paul wogan show. Although I would love to see a video of this cast doing the whole show, specifically anything that had Julia Mckenzie as the witch. deffo for 'Our Little World'
I LOVE THAT MASK!!!!!!!!!!!!! The wolf was always my favorite character in red riding hood (I know, what's wrong with me) ad I thing this dude pulled it off PERFECTLY!!!
agreed, but i think she's supposed to be annoying as part of the act. i wanna know how that mask works though, it's awesome, especially when it shoots steam outta the ears lol
i pla the wolf in the junior version, and i think this mask is next generation! Its so cool! And the wolf did'nt seem the freaky, but now i know he is!
Yeah, that mask is a little over the top. Still, not a bad performance. I must say though, nerms make this song a lot more interesting. ;) I'm a nerm-Nerms are a group of "spirit of the woods" type of characters who are there to motivate and react to whatever is going on with the characters-they're like an embodiment of subtext. And the characters don't see us until the end of the show. It's awesome. :D
No. Nerms Suck. A LOT. I just saw the show I think you are talking about. Nerms ruined all the ballads, and added little to this or any other upbeat songs. Half of it was the director not making them more important, but still. Nerms sucked.
You know something? YOU SUCK. We worked our asses off to bring something beautiful and unique to this already amazing show, and obviously you don't get it. I'm terribly sorry something so fantastic was wasted on you.
PVCC? Arizona? They made us look at the Nerms random walking during the most personal song in the show, No One Is Alone. I must admit I liked the idea, but the execution did not deliver what was promised in the director's notes.
There was one time, the Nerms actually contributed to the plot. Milky White's death. It was also my favorite part of the Nerms. If they were included in the plot more, and there were many ways I thought up thinking about it later, the Nerms could have been awesome.
In the original broadway version, the wolf's costume was anatamically correct--it included a dangling phallus. It further emphasized the role of the wolf as a seducer of Red Riding Hood, rather than simply her devourer. In the original Grimm fairy tale, the wolf calls Red a little slut, and it is hinted strongly that he rapes her. Sondheim and Lupine were trying to refer to the original stories, rather than our modern "watered-down" versions of them.
I really like the wolf in this! The head is so cool! I don't care much for red, but that's simply because I don't like her interpretation, nothing against her, her singing, or her acting. Does anyone know what the actual set looked like?
All of you who hate this are just comparing it to the OBC. These were 2 VERY different productions. The London production was based on a 'national trust/heritage' theme, and was a totally different take on the show. Just because the broadway production was first, you think every production must be a copy 'little red shouldn't wear glasses' WHY NOT?? cos it wasn't in the original?? get a life! This was an amazing production and IMO, Imedla Staunton was superior to Joanna Gleeson.
And is it just me, or does the wolf look like he should be holding a wand or pulling a rabbit out of his hat or something? I couldn't help thinking of a magician. A scary wolf-headed magician o.o...
