"Your muta takes numbers" pretty heavy for those days. You also have think about how hard that is, we watch this as if it two people but you have to remember that it's one person doing the whole thing. What a true talent.
Thanks for posting this. It's about time Paul Winchell gets his due to be ranked alongside Edger Bergen as one of the greatest ventriliquists of all time.
In 'Seinfeld', Jerry refers to Winchell and Mahoney in one episode, citing a legal precedent 'Winchell and Mahoney', when he pretends to be Elaine's attorney, acting for her when she threatens a dress shop with a lawsuit for using her likeness to make a manequin.
Depsite the clip quality, this is without doubt the finest ventriloquism I have ever seen. There were some really inspired gags, incredible performance - especially the mid-phone call part. Straight to favourites.
It is great seeing the old shows even if they are shorts. Those were the days. Life was simple & children learned from the TV shows. Todays shows are relly not that educational. Due to correctness
How I loved Paul Winchell, Jerry Mahoney and Knucklehead Smith! My sons and I have a running gag--we sign our names at the Cleaners "Jerry Mahoney." It's so funny to see it on the receipt!
The videos were destroyed by Metromedia (the TV company which owned WNEW in New York, among others), because Winchell sued for ownership. The court fined Metromedia $18 million, and called their action "deliberately malicious". Small comfort to Winchell, all those who worked hard on the program, and those of us who enjoyed his talent.
I don't know HOW you got this clip, nor do I care! When I heard about Metromedia's tantrum and how they destroyed the tapes, I nearly died! But then I saw that you have a clip, life has meaning again! I could just KISS you!!! Thank you soo much!!
I LOVE Jerry mahoney, (and knucklehead and Tessie), but I thought Metromedia, who owned the original videos, destroyed them all sometime in the 1980s in an astounding fit of spite. Where did you find this, and how many more exist???
Not all the master tapes were destroyed, luckily some did survive. I got this off ebay and converted it for upload. I have more so when I get time I will put more up. Thanks for your comments.
Thanks for your reply. I watched Jerry Mahoney every morning before school when I was a kid, and just loved the characters. I always wondered why it was never repeated on TV Land or Nick at Nite, or any of those, and then I heard about the lawsuit. I am so thrilled that some of the shows still exists. Wonderful.
WOW You too??? I was in kindergarten when I watched this too and when the black out hit!!
This is so weird I came accross your post today! I was just telling my hubby about the black out TODAY and that we were watching Jerry Mahoney!! CREEEEPY!! LOL!
Holy puppets, Batman ... Paul Winchell! Thanks a ton for posting this. I used to stay glued to the TV when Winchell was on the air. He was priceless. You didn't have to experience the "voice throwing" illusion--Winchell was just plain outright funny.
He voiced the leader of the Ant Hill Mob whose name is Clyde. He also voiced the crier of the mob and his name was Softie in addition to Dick Dastardly. On the Robonic Stooges, Winchell gave the Moe Howard character the same voice he gave Clyde. In the '80s he became Gargamel on the Smurfs. For Disney he was Tigger.
Hi that was so funny Paul Winchell an Jerry Mahoney i think i did seen them back in the 60's i am on here to check me out theshrever and will see Willie The Dummy and Willie's Voice Overs and Willie's Intro thank u very much i hope to be that good in future.
I've noticed more are watching this clip, than the other part of this skit. It's a 2 part clip, folks. And the second part is the funniest part! Watch that one if you aren't going to watch both.
These are great. Thanks!

Hey, I just noticed a dirty joke in this one. Go to where he asks which one is the custard pie and PW nearly gives the audience the finger.
